PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

From the beginning of this term we have made

some adjustments to our daily routines. Bell times

have varied slightly and we now have “warning”

bells first thing in the morning and at the end of

lunch. These bells remind students to go to the

toilet, wash their hands and have a drink before

going into class. It helps to have classes settled

quickly at the start of the day and after lunch. We

have also included a ten-minute eating time at

the beginning of lunch where students eat

together as a class in a space that is either in the

classroom or an outside area close to the

classroom. This helps us to manage rubbish and

the loss of lunch boxes and drink bottles as well as

the students eating in a more appropriate

environment.

Croydon Public School - Newsletter

The new bell times are as follows:-

8.57am – Warning bell

9.00am – Lining up bell

11.00am – 11.25am – Recess

12.55pm – 1.05pm – Eating time

1.05pm – 1.30 – First half lunch

1.30pm – 1.50pm – Second half lunch with warning

bell at 1.52pm

1.55pm – Return to class

3.00pm – End of school day

It is important that children are at school by

8.55am. The Home School Liaison Officer (HSLO) is

concerned at the number of students who are late

to school. If a child is not at school by 9.05am they

are marked on our official rolls as late. The morning

session is important for all students and those who

arrive late can be disruptive to the whole class.

Please ensure your child/children are at school on

time.

If you intend to take your child/children out of

school for a family event or holiday where they will

be absent for more than 10 school days, it is

important that you fill in a leave form to be

granted extended leave. These forms are

available from the school office and should be

completed well before the first day of leave. If you

are travelling overseas a copy of your itinerary

(flight schedule) should be attached to the form.

Week 3 is Education Week and the theme this year

is Today’s schools – creating tomorrow’s world. This

year we are showcasing the school on Tuesday 7

August between 9am and 11am. In the hall we will

have a variety of performances, in some

classrooms robotics and coding demonstrations

and on the 3 – 6 field some exhibition netball and

softball games. There will be an art trail around the

school displaying work from all classes. Morning

tea will be available at 11.00am in the hall for

parents, carers and family members. Further

information is available in the newsletter.

On Thursday 23 August Croydon PS and Ashbury PS

are providing an opportunity for parents to attend

a presentation by Dr Michael Carr-Gregg on the

topic of raising happy and resilient children and

teenagers. Dr Michael Carr-Gregg is one of

Australia's highest profile psychologists, author of

11 books, broadcaster and a specialist in

parenting, children, adolescents and the use of

technology for mental health. The forum will take

place from 7:00pm on Thursday 23 August at the

Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club. Tickets are

free to parents from both schools (sorry tickets are

not available to friends and family) and you can

book by visiting trybooking.com/XFCZ . Please note

that this is an adults only event so we ask that you

make your own arrangements for child minding.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING

The Positive Behaviour for Learning focus for this

fortnight is being a resilient learner in morning lines

and when using ICT and online spaces. Ask your

child how they will be resilient learners at school

this week.

For more information about Positive Behaviour for

Learning and our award system please see the

school website. On our PBL site you will find a

matrix that you can use at home to reinforce the

school expectations.

ASSEMBLY There has been a slight change to assembly times.

Primary assembly is now held on even weeks at

1.55pm on Monday afternoons.

K-2 assembly is now held on even weeks at 1.55pm

on Tuesday afternoons.

SPEECH PATHOLOGY PROGRAM

See the end of this newsletter for a handy tip from

our Croydon Public School speech therapist,

Elizabeth Ware. This tip gives you some great ideas

about how to help your child practice and revise

their vocabulary.

ACTIVITY PAYMENT Notes sent home with students for activities such as

excursions and incursions, all have a set cut-off

date for payments required. The deadline for

payment is the final date which the school will

accept payment for these activities. Any monies

paid online for activities after the cut-off date will

not be accepted. These monies will be placed into

payment for fees in advance. There will be no

refunds for monies paid online after the specified

cut-off dates.

If you wish to make a payment from fees in

advance (credit) please indicate this on the

permission slip and either drop the slip into the fees

box or hand it in to the office. Do not hand it to the

teacher first. This way the office staff will allocate

your credit to the activity and then the permission

slip will be forwarded to the class teacher.

EDUCATION WEEK 2018 Our Education Week Celebrations will be held on

Tuesday 7 August from 9.00am-11.00am. Everyone

CANTEEN NEWS

NEW TERM, NEW MENU!: Well here we are already

at Term 3 – how did that happen?! We are very

excited to present an updated menu with some

tasty new items, but most of all that we are NOW

OFFERING ALL MENU ITEMS ON FRIDAYS! And this

still includes the very popular Friday Fruito Bento.

***Please note for Friday PSSA students NO hot

food items can be ordered***

Croydon Public School - Newsletter

FRUITO BENTO ON FRIDAYS: We are continuing with

these for Term 3 so remember to get your orders in

by 9.30am each Wednesday, (ONLINE ONLY). Why

not pre-order for the term so you never forget?

Sushi Boxes can be collected at Recess for PSSA

sport participants – remember to provide your

PSSA child/ren with an icy pack to keep the sushi &

other items cool until they eat at lunch time.

OVER THE COUNTER: Have you been trying any of

the new items we’ve been making this term?

Apricot Balls, Homemade Cookies and Carrot &

Cucumber Cups with Hommos or Tzaziki to name a

few. We love your feedback, so let us know what

you think!

CANTEEN MENU QUERIES: If you have any queries

regarding items on the menu, please come and

see Di in the Canteen. She is only to too happy to

provide the nutritional & content information for all

of the food we offer.

CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS: WE DESPERATELY NEED

MORE HELPERS!!! Without the support of our

Croydon Parents & Carers we are unable to run

our Canteen. It’s that simple. But each term we

are sadly seeing less and less people offering any

time they may have to help out. We know that

most people see the Canteen as a vital service at

school, but it will not continue to run without your

support. Please don’t let this happen!!

If you think you may be able to help out, in

anyway, even if just a an hour or two each term,

please call by the canteen and chat to Di our

wonderful Canteen Supervisor. Or let Lexi Hunter

know by email: [email protected] All

mums, dads, grandparents, uncles, aunties &

carers are welcome!

And remember to let Di know ASAP of you are

unable to make your shift or need to change days.
