Bonjour Trinity Community, We are delighted to share the results from the May 2020 Language Perfect competition

so you are aware how well our Trinity students performed in French at state, national and

global level. Mlle Berg and I were very impressed with the engagement of our students

in Years 7-10, especially due to the fact that we were all off-campus for most of the

competition dates. This is the best we have ever done as a school! We held a crepe party in

the final week of term for the 38 students who achieved over 250 points. We had a total of

186 students participate in the competition and our Year 9 French elective class earned a

whopping 55,312 points between the 11 of them! (46th class in the world!!). Our top

student, Year 9 Tahlia O’Sullivan, was ranked 87th in the world out of over 30,000 students

with her outstanding score of 14,928 points!

Félicitations à tous et à toutes! (Congratulations to each one of you !)

Mlle Berg and Mme Rupp

As we wrap up Term 2, this newsletter is a celebration of our incredible Trinity community. The front cover features an image taken by one of our very own Junior School students, Finn McBurnie, who has an incredible talent for capturinghis peers in single moments of time. In this instance, his picture tells the story of some of our youngest students working together to build a sustainable and environmentally conscious future. As a community, we are so proud of our students who continue to take leadership in this space and advocate for change.

You have also seen the amazing results of our students who participated in the 2020 Language Perfect Competition on the previous pages. These results show the absolute dedication of both our students and staff in this learning space. As teachers at Trinity, we are here to educate the whole child and activities such as these help develop important skills in our students which will endure well beyond their school years. I felt a great sense of pride in all of our Trinity students when I attended the French Crepe party celebrating these achievements - well done to each one of you.

It has been a busy two weeks at the College and while our Year 12 students have been busy preparing for their HSC Trial exams in Term 3, we have also been interviewing Kindergarten students for 2021, and we are excited to continue growing our community and moving forward together. Subject Selection booklets have also been sent out to families in Year 8 and Year 10 as they prepare for the next stages of their learning with us. We hope our students enjoy this process, as it is a wonderful opportunity to begin exploring new opportunities and carving out their path to the future.

Taking the time to do nothing often brings everything into perspective and after a uniquestart to the year when many things were put on hold, it’s been wonderful to come backtogether and focus solely on what matters; our students, our joy, our future leaders.

Assistant Head of the Junior SchoolMr. Simon Fairall

As the first semester of 2020 comes to a close, it is a chance for us all to take stock of what is valuable in our lives. Trinity’s focus on the importance of caring for each other, and by extension, all members our community, has revealed the true heart of our school during a challenging time. Trinity continues to be a sanctuary of safety for our students, who for the past 6 months have been forced to deal with enormous pressures and challenges in a less than ‘normal’ world.

The care and hard work of our staff at Trinity has come to the fore during this time of unpredictability and unrest, and have provided our most valuable resource, our students, with the opportunity to continue to learn, grow and develop.

We appreciate the continued support of our parents, and the feedback which we receive to support the individuals in our care. The College’s priority is to always do what is best for our students, and working with our parents and carers is a vital part of the success of this process. We thank you for your honest feedback, and for your on-going willingness to work with our staff, as we continually look for ways to improve our academic and pastoral programs and care for your children, our students.

We hope that our families and staff enjoy the mid-year break with loved ones and take the time to relax and recharge in preparation for Term 3. Our aim is to continue re-introducing our diverse extra-curricular offering as the year progresses to ensure our students have access to the best learning experiences possible. We hope and pray that we continue to see restrictions ease as we prepare for a busy semester ahead.

Take care and see you soon.

Tree Planting

Our Junior School students have been busy planting trees around the college

as part of our sustainibility program. They are learning about the importance of sustaining our physicalworld and the practical activities they

can be involved in to achieve this.

At Trinity, there is an enormous focus on environmental issues and

sustainability as we believe that eventhe little changes can make a huge

difference. Our students are working together to build a more sustainable

and environmentally conscious future.

Year 5: Product Posters

Our Year 5 students have been busy pitching and marketing their

new business product ideas. A central part of this project involved designing and creating posters as part of their campaign. We were

impressed by their ideas and creative execution!

CSU Mountain Bike Experience

Our Year 3-6 students have continued their Mountain Bike Experiences over the

past two weeks. Students have been guided through the CSU bike tracks with the support of our specialist teachers.

They have shown incredible courage and resilience each time,

attempting new things and having fun along the way.

Semester 1 ReportsSemester 1 Reports on student progress are now available on SEQTA. We encourage students and parents to look at these closely, together. They can be the catalyst for rich conversations about learning: examining what has been learnt and the next steps which need to be taken for growth.

Year 9-10 2021 Subject Information BookletSubject Information Booklets for Year 9-10 2021 were given to Year 8 students onThursday. Students need time to read about each subject, talk to teachers, talk with parents and reflect on their interests and abilities. It is a process: some students make these choices easily and some need more time.

Distributing these booklets prior to the school holidays provides the opportunity for the conversations and reflection needed. This also means that, following the Year 9 2021 Subject Information night on Tuesday, 4 August (6-8pm) students will be well prepared to then submit their preferences through Edval by Tuesday 11 August.

I look forward to seeing you at the Year 9 2021 Subject Information night where clarification will be provided around any questions you might have. There will be opportunity to discuss the different subjects on offer with teachers who are passionate about these subjects.

Year 11-12 2021 Subject Information BookletSubject Information Booklets for Year 11-12 2021 were given to Year 10 students on Thursday.

Students need time to read about each subject, talk to teachers, talk with parents and reflect on their interests and abilities. It is a process: some students make these choices easily and some need more time.

Distributing these booklets prior to the school holidays provides the opportunity for the conversations and reflection needed. This also means that, following the Year 11 Subject ‘Market’ (Year 11 2021 Subject Information night) on Tuesday, 28 July (6-8pm) they will be well prepared to then submit their preferences through Edval by Friday 7 August.

I look forward to seeing you at the Year 11 Subject ‘Market’ (Year 11 2021 Subject Information night) where clarification will be provided around any questions you might have.

Year 10 2020 Parent Teacher InterviewsIn addition, there will be opportunity for parents and students to talk with teachers about academic progress at the Year 10 Parent/Teacher/Student Interview Evening in Week 1, on Thursday 23 July. We encourage students to attend and to bring their Semester Report with them so that it can be discussed. This will also inform discussions about Year 11 subject selection, which occur later in the term.

2020 International Competitions and Assessment for School (ICAS) in Science and English We have now received confirmation from UNSW Global Assessments that ICAS 2020 will proceed in Term 3. Therefore, the College will be offering the opportunity for students to participate in Science and English assessments. The Science and English Departments will be making recommendations to students and parents, via email next week, if they believe these competitions will be beneficial. Parents may also nominate their child directly. Access details will be provided to parents to purchase these assessments at a cost of $15.95 per assessment. Specific sitting dates are yet to be determined, however, the window provided by UNSW Global Assessments for Science is Monday 17 August to Friday 21 August and the window for English is Monday 24 August to Friday 28 August.

The Australian Mathematics Competition The Australian Mathematics Competition will be run on Thursday 30 July 2020. This competition is designed to extend and challenge students in Years 7-12 who achieve highly in Mathematics. It enables these students to test themselves against a large population, across Australia and beyond. Capable students can gain some useful diagnostic feedback and it is our aim to use this feedback to enhance learning programs for those students.

There are two ways that students can enter the competition:

1. Selected students will be invited to participate by their teacher in Mathematics. In this case parents and students will be notified via email next week and given the option to confirm their participation. The cost per test (invoiced to parents) is $6.50.

2. Alternatively, parents can nominate their son or daughter to participate by emailing the Head of Mathematics, Mrs Kathy Fletcher [email protected] by Tuesday 14 July (during the school holidays). The cost per test (invoiced to parents)is $6.50.

I wish families peace, good health, rest and relaxation across the holiday break. We look forward to welcoming students back to learning at Trinity Anglican College on Tuesday, 21 July.

You have made it! And so have the students . . .

All of our senior school students – from Years 7-12 – have been applying creative fervour to produce assessment tasks that paint a vivid picture of what they know and what they can do. We commend them for their hard work and congratulate them for their considerable achievements.

Whilst it might feel a little early to start thinking about the assessment tasks that belong in Term 3, the table, below, might help you as you help your young people with their organisation:

Please remind your young people that their teachers are a part of their support team and that they are here to help; they can cast eyes over a draft, listen to ideas and help with that next step. Of course, we know that they understand that their families are the most significant of their helpers!

Year 12 Exams

The focus of our Year 12 students is firmly on the final set of examinations, which span across Weeks 5 and 6 of Term 3. The specifics of the examination timetable will be released to students over the next little while.

For all students, these exams figure as significant assessment items that will assist in determining the assessment component of their final HSC mark. The students are busy honing their study schedule in order to maximise their results in this important set of exams. We know that students understand that their teachers are an important part of their support network who are waiting – ever-ready – to provide feedback on practice questions and essays.

Year 12 students have access to their final HSC Exam Timetable via the NSW Education Standards Authority website.

Holiday seminar sessions provide teachers and students with the opportunity to work at a slightly different pace from the lessons that occur during term time. The sessions provide opportunities for students to revise material and rehearse key skills ahead of the end of course exams that occur across Weeks 5 and 6 of Term 3.

There are some organisational details attached with running the sessions. These are detailed below.

1.Front Office – signing in and out: The Front Office will be open from 9am to 4pm throughout the holidays. Students attending the seminars sign in and out of the College via the front office. If students are present across both morning and afternoon sessions and wish to leave the site for lunch, they must sign out and sign back in again.

2. Library: the library will be open during this first week of the holidays from 9am to 4pm for student use.

3. In the event of seminar cancellation: teachers will email students and the Front Office.

4. Study sessions later in the holidays: Some teachers might organise additional study sessions later in the holidays. These teachers will communicate with their students via email in order to organise these additional sessions.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about any of the above items.

And now to the holidays; may you and your family enjoy special time together as you re-charge mind, body and spirit.

From the Library

It has been great to see so many of our students back and enjoying the Library over the past few weeks. It is always heartening to see students borrowing resources, and the excitement and joy that being able to borrow has brought many students reminds us why we think we have the best job in the school.

Overdue and Outstanding BooksWe have been making an effort to get students to return any outstanding books they may have borrowed from earlier this year (and even from last year in some cases). A big thankyou to Mrs Wilson for organising overdue notes for diaries, and Mrs Katsoolis for emailing students and families, reminding them of these outstanding books. Please let us know if any of these resources have been lost or damaged, especially while students have been away from the College so we can amend our records (and a reminder that if books are damaged, not to try to repair or dispose of them, but to please return them to the Library so we can assess the best process for repairing or discarding them).

Donation of Books and Other ResourcesWe have had a number of students asking whether or not we accept donations, and it sounds like a number of families have been looking through their bookshelves and doing a bit of an isolation cleanout!

We are more than happy to accept any books or other related resources that you might want to donate or get rid of. Some of our most used and most loved books have been kindly donated by members of the College and wider community.

Any donations can be left at the Front Office and we will collect them from there. We will do our very best to find any resource an appropriate home, either in our Library or other part of the College, or by donating on to one of our other partners/friends.

Unfortunately, we are unable to return any items once they have been donated, but rest assured, they will find a good home.

Ebony McGee (6JH) and Hugh Hogg (4KS) used their initiative and entered a competition from the Library Webpage that was set up during online learning. Ebony’s entry was a story and Hugh wrote a poem. They have been chosen as finalists. We will keep you updated with the results. Great achievement Ebony
