CALABASAS SENIOR CENTER

SHOW BEGINS AT 2PM IN THE

MULTIPURPOSE ROOM

(Running time 1H 37M)

RSVP TO [email protected]

The Calabasas Senior Center is offering “Movie Matinee”, the 3rd Friday of

every month starting at 2pm for members. We will show a different classic

movie and serve fresh hot popcorn for you to enjoy while

watching the film.

“Sports Writer Gives Us The Inside Scoop On The Dodgers, Lakers And More” Award winning sportscaster and journalist Steve Springer will inform and entertain us during his class, “Speaking ‘Fairly’ – My Half Century in Baseball”. Steve will take a look at former Dodger Ron Fairly’s look back at his 50 years in the game, focusing primarily on the 60’s Dodgers like Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Maury Wills, along with stories about Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Yogi Berra and Casey Stengel.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Steve was the play-by-play voice for foot-ball, basketball and baseball as a student at CSUN. Steve’s first experience as a sports writer was during his five years with the “Thousand Oaks News-Chronicle”. He spent another four years as a sportswriter for the “Orange County Register”, before joining the “Los Angeles Times” where he served as sportscaster for twenty years. A newspaper journalist since 1974, he has covered Los Angeles’ major professional franchises – the Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers, Angels, Kings and Raiders – as well as UCLA and USC football.

With Scott Osler, Steve authored Winnin’ Times, a book about the 1980’s Lakers. And, with Mike Arkush, 60 years of USC-UCLA Football, penned the Los Angeles Lakers Encyclopedia. His recent book, “Tuff Juice”, will be made into a movie in 2018. It’s about a basketball player who grew up in the ghetto of Racine, Wisconsin, was arrested and spent time in jail, and later played for the Los Angeles Lakers. Mark Wahlberg will play the role of a detective.

Steve lives in Woodland Hills with his wife of 48 years. He has a daughter, a son who is following in his footsteps doing videos at Yahoo Sports, and three grandchildren.
