Volume 6 Issue 5 8 May 2020 Newsletter
From The Principal’s Desk
PARENT INFORMATION UPDATE
Dear Parents,
Thank you for your ongoing support of our school and your family. I am sending out another survey
today regarding school attendance in week 3 of this term. Your previous responses helped greatly;
and a response today will support our planning for next week. I’d appreciate it if you would please
take 5 minutes to complete the survey for me as soon as possible.
The position of the Minister remains the same at this time with parents able to choose whether their
children learn from home or attend school. Year level Learning at Home packs will be available
from the front of the school for collection between 12:00 – 2:00pm today (Friday 8 May). My special
thanks to our wonderful P&C volunteers who will be helping us today.
The information and instruction to schools remains the same. For students attending school there
are some points that need to be clear:
Please do not send your child if they have a temperature; a cough; a sore throat; or if they feel
sick in any way.
Please send your child with their own drink bottle. This bottle can be refilled from our clean
drinking fountains.
Young people will be asked not to drink directly from the fountains – only from their bottles.
Crunch and Sip – please pack the usual healthy crunch and sip foods for your child but let
your child know that there will be no sharing of food. This extends to birthdays at this point in
time.
Play equipment – the metal play equipment will re-open at Golden Bay PS.
The additional cleaner will continue to work throughout the school day to support cleaning of
equipment and to clean all frequently used surfaces and door handles. Cleaners have been
provided with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as required.

Hand Hygiene
Please support us by continuing to reinforce good handwashing and sanitising between
tasks. We’ve always had soap in all ablution blocks, and sanitiser has always been provided for
classrooms. This best practice will continue in our school.
Students will be asked to wash their hands/sanitise before commencing school work, eating,
between tasks, and at the start and finish of each play period.
Social Distancing
The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) issued a statement on 24 April
that reads, “AHPPC does not believe that the ‘venue density rule’ of no more than one person
per four square metres is appropriate or practical in classrooms or corridors, nor maintain 1.5m
between students during classroom activities”.
During class activities, our staff will provide individual student work and reduce group activities.
As you are aware, the greatest known risk of transmission at this point appears to be between
adults. Staff will attend to social distancing guidelines as provided.
To support social distancing for you, parents are requested to drop off and pick up their children
at school gates, or nearby (as per the previous two weeks). This is based on advice from the
Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC).
School and Learning arrangements
Our teachers will be in classrooms next week. This will mean that WebEx will only be used once
per week for students at home. The purpose will be to retain a connection for our young people
who are learning at home. It will keep them in touch with their class peers to say hello and have
a brief sharing time. These connections will last no longer than 15 minutes. Learning at Home
packs will be the main learning available for students at home from week 3 onwards.
Staff will continue to manage traffic flow in and out of the classrooms to reduce congestion.
Managing drop off and pick up locations - I continue to seek your support with the following:
Parents with children in Kindergarten and Pre-primary:
Can you please drop your children at the ECE gate on the Tangadee Road side of the school.
Staff will be available to receive your child and take them to class. Preferred time between
08:25 – 08:40am. If your ECE child has an older sibling they can enter through this gate.
All other students in years 1 – 6 are to enter from the Arizona Parade car park side. Staff will be
there to welcome them and direct them towards classrooms. Preferred time 08:30 – 08:40 am
Kiss and drop in the morning would be preferred for the older students. Afternoon pick up will
require you to park if early so that the entrance isn’t blocked and traffic flow can be
maintained. This will require patience from everyone and a commitment to keep the flow
happening.
Older students who need to collect siblings from kindergarten and Pre-primary will be released
at 02:40pm so they can help us in collecting their younger sibling/s ready for you to collect your
family outside the ECE school gate on Tangadee Road carpark side (as per drop off). Again, I
respectfully call on your patience during this time of difference for us all.
Please remember that parents will not be permitted on school site, and social distancing for you
and staff is still required.
All other gates will remain locked at this time.

SMS texts from us regarding attendance:
Each day (whether learning from home or school) all parents will receive two texts from us at
10:00 am and 12:00. To have your child marked as present please respond to these texts from
our system. My apologies but we had to streamline the one message for everyone.
Students with special needs
The ACROD parking bays in the staff carpark can be used for students with special needs.
Bike racks
I ask that students leave their bikes and scooters at home unless there is an absolute need to
bring them to school (Eg – considerable distance from school). Bike racks will be cleaned down
at the end of each school day.
OSHClub
The usual gate for OSHClub will continue to be used during drop off and after school collection
times.
Learning at Home packs
These will be available for collection as per the Connect notice and schedule provided by
Cherie Raymond.
Thank you once again for all your positive feedback, support and community spirit. We couldn’t have
done all this without your help! Again, the Executive Team will be available this afternoon if you need
to speak with one of us.
Have a relaxing weekend with your family everyone….and Happy Mother’s Day!
We remain ‘A Community of Learners’ (School Vision statement for GBPS).
In your service. Take care everyone.
Kind regards,
PETA LAWRENCE

Dear Golden Bay school community.
Welcome to Term 2
This term is starting off a little bit different than what we are used to but ‘different’ can also be
good sometimes.
I want to encourage you to keep looking for the good things that come out of these different times.
I am excited to connect with everyone again this term and to continue to support families and
staff. I will be on site on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for supporting students and families in need of
emotional support and connection.
Here is a list of random acts of kindness that you can do to show others how much you care.
I look forward to hearing about all the good deeds you have done.
See you soon
