From the Editor

We are nearing the end of the Rotary year. This is a good opportunity to look back, but it’s too early to sum up the results. Now is the moment to see which goals we had set for ourselves at the beginning of the year, and whether we can achieve or exceed them. It is necessary to make an effort and in the finishing phase to do our best and make sure that the results are excellent. By analyzing this year, we can help plan the next year in an even better, more realistic, more content, more inspiring way. The end of each year should be used to make the next year even better. It is the legacy we give to those who come. Rotary is recognizable by its rotating functionaries and limited duration of mandates, as well as the fact that the previous experiences are used for the future. That’s why our organization is becoming better every year. Summing up the results is often viewed as an opportunity to show off with all that has been achieved, but it is actually an incentive to new functionaries who come with new energy and enthusiasm. In fact, 360 days is a long period in which a lot can be done. Still, one should not forget that 30 days is a twelfth part of that period, and that there is time to correct everything that needs to be corrected, and to carry out something not yet achieved. Let’s all use this month in front of us, so that at the end of this year we will be proud of what has been done, but even prouder of ourselves and our team.

ADG Nikola Božić, urednik

A word from the Governor

CUTTING IT FINE! My dears, we are cutting it fine, so to speak. We cut it fine but we do significant things! We have managed to carry out a number of projects during the past month, to help many schools and health institutions. So, another very successful month is behind us. In addition to the successful and swift work of the clubs, which, of course, I am happy about, I am also very content with the excellent atmosphere, the good will, enthusiasm and optimism. We are all very positive, we don’t look back at the past, and we look into the future. And we make a difference!!! The team which led the District and managed the clubs this year really made a difference. MAKING A DIFFERENCE! In regards to last years, this year we did the following: • increased the membership, • enlarged the number of clubs, • increased the number of realized projects, • bumped up the value of realized projects, • increased the number of volunteer hours, • boosted the number of clubs with Rotary Citations, • increased the number of global grants, • enlarged the donations into the Annual Fund Rotary foundation, • marked up the donations into the POLIO fund, • increased the total donations into the Rotary Foundation, • significantly increased the number of PHFs in the District. Is that enough? :) And finally, the best of all - just the last month and a half we paid more than $20,000 into the Foundation and moved toward the goal of making a record donation into the annual fund this year, a record payment per capita, and a record deposit in the total Foundation donations. So, as I said, we are cutting it fine, but we are moving things SIGNIFICANTLY! We will celebrate this all together during our Zlatibor weekend at our District Conference and District Assembly. Yours in Rotary,

DG Bane Ranđelović

The Rotary E-Club organized a specialist meeting dubbed “Crypto Society in the Service of Local Communities Development” in Belgrade on the potential of using cryptocurrency for the development of society, local communities and humanitarian work. An introductory lecture titled “Society Without Cash” was held by H.E. Mr. Jan Lundin, Swedish Ambassador to Serbia. He talked about how Sweden is slowly becoming a cash-free state with all payments carried out via bank cards or online applications. “The transition of cash into a virtual space is possible when citizens gain trust in the state and the system. The non-cash payment method leads to greater transparency, which, with the trust that information on cash flows will not be abused, leads to a safer society. In such a society, it is difficult to finance criminal activities, and the scope of criminal activity that can cause harm to citizens or shop and bank employees is also reduced,” Ambassador Lundin said in his introductory address. A panel discussion on the potentials of cryptocurrencies for social development and humanitarian work followed. The panel was attended by Arvin Kamberi (Diplo Foundation, Bitcoin Association), Slobodan Milovanović (PhD candidate at the University of Uppsala, Sweden), Ivan Bjelajac (CEO MVP Workshop), Slobodan Marković (Technical Advisor, UNDP) and Nikola Božić (program director of the Research Station Petnica). Moderators of the discussion were journalists Tamara Vučenović and Vladimir Radunović from the Diplo Foundation. “Frequently, cryptocurrency is said to either be a hoax or easy money and rarely a realistic potential for the development of society and the local community, including humanitarian work. The intention of this panel and meeting is to connect the technological and development community and to constructively discuss the potentials and challenges of cryptocurrency for social development, primarily through concrete examples in the world and the most important factors,” said Vladimir Radunović, event organizer and president of the Rotary E-Club. The rally was jointly organized by the Rotary E-Club and a technical community gathered around the Dash cryptocurrency, which gives the topic a broad scope. Detailed conclusions from the panel can be found on the following link: http://www.rotaryeclubd2483.org/kriptodrustvo/

The Rotary Club Niš-Constantine the Great, for the 11th time in a row, organized the New Niš Elite 2018 drive on Many 26. The drive provided awards of one-time scholarships for the best Niš high school pupils who have achieved outstanding district competition results in various fields (mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, computing). During the week preceding this action, a series of activities in the local community promoted the drive and the awarded laureates. All the activities ended with a ceremony during which prize grants were awarded. Celebrations always take place in the presence of Rotarians, Rotaracts, parents, school directors, public figures from the local community, friends of Rotary and the local media. This year, the main ceremony at which scholarships were awarded was a charity concert. The concert was performed by pianist Vedrana Stojić, a Rotary from RC Glorija Banja Luka, and her guest was flutist Anđela Bratić, a former Rotaract member. The funds collected entered the prize fund intended for scholarships to laureates.

RC Belgrade Sava continued its tradition this Rotary year of serving the community with giving aid to persons with disabilities. We all contributed to the Youth Philharmonic Borislav Pašćan for the summer international camp 2017, and in 2018, thanks to the District, we contributed further to encourage young artists to continue their education. We also supported the project “100 for 100” of RC Belgrade Čukarica, which was raised to the district level. In accordance with the wonderful idea of Rotary International President Ian H.S. Riseley, we planted 20 ash tree seedlings along the Sava Walkway in Belgrade and we hope that we will see some progress soon. It is without doubt that the joint group of our Distinguished Governor Bane Randjelović, Rotaract Club Belgrade Sava, Danilo Ljevnaić DG 2020/2021 and Nikola Božić ADG and the Club members themselves will contribute to the trees growth. We also decided to reinforce our company so we accepted 3 new members and we are working on an additional expansion of the membership. In order to meet with successful people in their surroundings, 9 lectures were held, and 3 have been announced. We are glad that we were also the initiators of Belgrade Rotary Club joint meetings, and we were the hosts on two occasions although we also socialized with friends from RC Belgrade Center, RC E-Club, RC Belgrade Novi Beograd, RC Belgrade Čukarica, RC Belgrade, RC Belgrade Metropolitan, RC Belgrade Skadarlija, etc. We celebrated the 11th anniversary of receiving our charter, and we put a lot of effort to attend all the club and district seminar events. Thus, there were six of us from the club at PETS-2017 and 5 at PETS 2018. The club president, Daliborka Bradić, was our representative at the Kluz Institute which brought together Rotary leaders from Europe, Asia and Africa (zones 19 and 20B), and President Ian H.S. Riseley also attended the event.

The smiles we see on their faces give us the strength and motivation to continue with this drive in the coming years. 2.”YOU TOO ARE SANTA CLAUS” – a traditional 4-year drive in which 650 parcels for children without parental care are provided. An appropriate presentation in DKC was organized - the total value of the drive is Eur 13,000.
