Luke For the support and guidance he provided to younger students when creating their Cup Day hat during Art. This was a fantastic example of role modelling within our school community. CLASSROOM ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS Lauren for writing more during writing time and spelling some of her colour words correctly in her sentences. Lauren is now more confident to share her work with the group. Mitchell For concentrating well and listening to his swimming instructor to help improve his skills. Grace B - For settling into the Grade 2/3 classroom, being a kind and contributing member of the class, working hard to complete her work and following classroom routines. Paddy For completing his homework to a very high standard and being willing to share his experiment findings with the rest of the class. Charlotte For working hard and cooperatively with her partner to complete her insulators and conductors Poster in Science. Cameron For his commitment to learning the multiplication facts and improving his personal best time when recalling them quickly.

SCHOOL VALUES AWARDS

Baylee – For being very independent, responsible and

organised when attending swimming lessons.

Jayda – For continuing to display our school values all

week while participating in swimming lessons.

Zaithan – For demonstrating the Axedale PS value of

READING AWARDS

Well done to our P/1/2/3 students who have achieved another

level of word recognition this week. Great work!

A big thank you to Henry Hedger from Mrs. Gentry

for his donation of a range of books to

the MARC Van.

BANDANNA DAY & ALOPECIA AWARENESS

Tomorrow, Friday 2nd November, we will be selling Bandannas

for $5 each as a fundraiser for CanTeen. We will also be

donating money to our local Alopecia awareness group. Thanks

for your support.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

WELCOME

We have recently welcomed two new students to our school.

Grace Bradshaw and Mahli McRorie-Rhodes have joined our

Gr. 2/3 class and we are looking forward to getting to know

them well and enjoy the contribution they can make to our

school.

We also welcome Grace’s parents Fiona & Steven, and Mahli’s mum Ammie to or school community.

SCHOOL REVIEW

Next Wednesday we will be having day one of our School Review. Every four years, school’s take part a

School Review to evaluate a wide range of areas. We will have a number of visitors in our school next

Wednesday. They will be speaking with staff, students, ES staff and looking around the school.

SWIMMING

A big well done to all of our students for their efforts at swimming last week. We have had lots positive

feedback from the instructors about the student’s listening, their work ethic, determination & general

behaviour.

All teachers were very pleased with the way older students helped out our younger students.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent Teacher Interviews will take place on Wednesday 28th November. A note with time options and

further details will be sent home next week.

T20 CRICKET CARNIVAL

On Monday 5th November a group of Grade 5/6 students will be participating in a T20 Blast Cricket

Carnival in Bendigo at Biescher Park Strathdale. Travel will be by bus. Good luck to the team.

REMEMBRANCE DAY

On Friday 9th November some of our senior students will be conducting a Remembrance Day ceremony at

school to help inform younger students of the importance of Remembrance Day.

Some of our student leaders will also be involved in the Axedale Remembrance Day ceremony on Sunday

11th November.

VOLLEYBALL

Our girl’s volleyball team came runners up at today’s

Volleyball Championship played in Swan Hill. The

team played well in hot conditions.

BENDIGO BLUES AND ROOTS FESTIVAL

The Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival is on Sunday 11th

November. Our school band has been allocated a time

slot. A note will be sent home tomorrow with details of

times and arrangements for those families involved.

WALK TO SCHOOL 2018 – FIRST FOUR

WEEKS OF TERM 4! Our last Walk to School activity is on this Friday

November 2nd – 8.00am start from the old Quarry

Hotel, Inghams Rd. Axedale

Staff will supervise the walks, however parents are most welcome and encouraged to come along and join

in.

LIBRARY BOOKS

We have a lot of books from the library which are missing. Can parents please check at

home and return any books ASAP for our library audit. Thanks for your help with this.

CITY OF GREATER BENDIGO

As part of the roadworks completed at Christmas time, COGB agreed to provide some plants for planting

out the garden beds next to our bus park. These plants arrived just prior to the holidays. We will be planting

them in over the next few weeks. A big thanks to Thomas A-W who has spent some of his lunch and recess

times pre-soaking the beds prior to planting. Great work Thomas – much appreciated.

GRADE 4/5/6 BIKE RIDE

Our Grade 4/5/6 one day Bike Hike will take place on Friday 30th November. Axedale Primary School will

be the start and finish point of the ride. We will be using the Bendigo Heathcote Rail Trail and riding to

Knowsley and return.

Parents are welcome to join the ride with the students.

Thank you to the parents who have offered to help out with support vehicles.

MELBOURNE CUP DAY

On the afternoon of Melbourne Cup Day, we will be holding a family picnic lunch from 1.00, followed by a

Hat Parade at 1.30pm. We will take part in some old time games/activities in rotating groups from 2.00

conducted by some of our senior students before watching the Melbourne Cup just before home time. Students

will be making special fancy hats as part of the Art Program over the coming weeks. Parents who are coming

along for the Picnic Lunch are welcome to bring picnic food along, or can enjoy some yummy sausages from

the BBQ at no cost. The school will set up shade tents and tables and chairs. Families may wish to bring along

a picnic rug.

Miss Mannes would like all students to bring along any sort of hat that is no longer needed. The hats will have

decorations added to them in the weeks leading up to Melbourne Cup Day.

We will also be holding a small plant stall on this day.

PREP PLANTS

Our Preps and Grade 1’s have been very busy planting and raising vegetable seeds. Their seedlings are now

growing and healthy and are for sale on our front verandah. Contact Ms. Saunders or Mrs. Tenace if

interested.

HEALTHY HIPS DAY – Friday 2nd November

Friday 2nd November is Healthy Hips Day. This day is dedicated to raising awareness for hip dysplasia to

improve early diagnosis and support those impacted by the condition. A flyer is at the back of the newsletter

today with common signs and symptoms to be aware of. Thanks to Lizz Shelton for sharing this information.

CLASSROOMS

PREP/KINDER PICNIC LUNCH

On Thursday 8th November at 11am the Kinder students will be

meeting in the park with our Prep students for a picnic lunch and hat

parade. Students will wear their hats that they have made in Art.

Students will need to bring a cut lunch and a water bottle on the day.

We are looking forward to catching up with our friends prior to

Transition Days.

ART

All grades in Art have been creating and

decorating hats for Tuesday’s Melbourne

Cup Picnic. Our Grade Prep and 1 students

enjoyed having the big kids as helpers. All

students worked wonderfully as ‘buddies’

and produced some creative hats. We are

looking forward to seeing them all at the

picnic!

Zodiacs Netball Club tryout dates for Season 2019 The Zodiacs Netball Club affiliated with the Bendigo Strathdale Netball Association (BSNA) will hold their

annual tryouts for Season 2019 teams for Grade 6 (2019) and 13/Under (Year 7 in 2019) on the following

dates:

Sunday November 11th

Grade 6: Registrations from 9:45am

Tryouts 10am to 11am

13/Under: Registrations from 10:45am

Tryouts 11am-12:15pm

Monday November 12th

Grade 6: Registrations from 5pm

Tryouts 5:15pm to 6:15pm

13/Under: Registrations from 5:45pm

Tryouts 6pm to 7pm

Attendance at both sessions is preferred for best chance of selection.

Tryouts will take place at our courts located at Strathdale Park, Cnr Reservoir Rd & McIvor Hwy. Please

bring along a drink bottle & be sun smart.
