PT Carus Indonesia is orangutan home range too. PT Carus Indonesia and PT Dwima produce (red) meranti, keruing, kapur, bangkirai and other natural forest species. Their buyers include PT Sumber Mas, PT Agung Kharisma Jaya, PT Wijaya and PT Integra. Interested buyers can contact these industries directly, or meet them in the sustainable business event that APHI and The Borneo Initiative are hosting in Surabaya on Nov 10-11 (see below). The Borneo Initiative set up a USA representation with the appointment of Alex Gama as USA market links coordinator per March 1, 2014 ([email protected] or +1 703 224-8813). Mr. Gama was introduced to Indonesian industries via a small gathering during the IFFINA exhibition in Jakarta on March 17, 2014. As a follow-up, APHI and TBI are organising a sustainable business seminar aiming to boost the international trade in certified wood products from Indonesia on November 10-11 in Surabaya, Indonesia. The focus will be on the USA market but participation from other countries is welcome, too. Indonesian invitees will include forest industries and forest concessions, involved in plywood, decking, flooring, moulding, and garden furniture. A half- day seminar will be conducted on November 10 to discuss Indonesian production capacity, USA market perspectives, and opportunities and bottlenecks. November 11, business-to-business encounters will be facilitated. A definite program and location can be found on our home page. NEWSLETTER – OCTOBER 2014 USA market links

Forest fire

Tropical wood – you can build on it

Status of FSC forest certification in Indonesia

TBI team made an overlay of forest fire hotspots and FSC concessions in 2013. Forest fires were rampant again in Sumatra and West-Kalimantan but we have no reports of any serious damage in any of the TBI supported forest concessions.
