First of all, I would like to thank all staff members for conducting parent/teacher interviews this week. I know that they found the sessions very informative and I hope that you did too. It is with sadness that I report the passing of Kerrie Ellis whom you might know as one of the ladies who has helped to officiate at many of our school swimming carnivals. We have been in contact with Kerrie’s family and passed on our school community’s condolences. In the past week, we have registered to be a SunSmart school via the NSW Cancer Council. As you know, we take our commitment to sun safety very seriously via school programs such as “No Hat, No Play” and this will assist us to educate students and parents about sun awareness. As you can imagine, we have a variety of lost property handed in each day of each week! A lot of this property has the names of students on it, luckily; however, they do not always remember to collect it back. If you could assist us by collecting your child’s clothing by the end of the term, we would be very grateful. Our office staff have volunteered to display it on tables outside the office for the remainder of this week, so please come and have a look for that long-lost hat! With winter approaching, and the inevitable loss of jumpers and jackets, we need to clear some space as soon as possible. First of all, I would like to thank all

staff members for conducting

parent/teacher interviews this week.

I know that they found the sessions

very informative and I hope that you

did too.

It is with sadness that I report the

passing of Kerrie Ellis whom you

might know as one of the ladies who

has helped to officiate at many of our

school swimming carnivals. We have

been in contact with Kerrie’s family

and passed on our school

community’s condolences.

In the past week, we have registered

to be a SunSmart school via the

NSW Cancer Council. As you know,

we take our commitment to sun

safety very seriously via school

programs such as “No Hat, No Play”

and this will assist us to educate

students and parents about sun

awareness.

As you can imagine, we have a variety

of lost property handed in each day

of each week! A lot of this property

has the names of students on it,

luckily; however, they do not always

remember to collect it back. If you

could assist us by collecting your

child’s clothing by the end of the

term, we would be very grateful. Our

office staff have volunteered to

display it on tables outside the office

for the remainder of this week, so

please come and have a look for that

long-lost hat! With winter

approaching, and the inevitable loss

of jumpers and jackets, we need to

clear some space as soon as possible.

Student Banking We’ve got great news. In Term 2,

there will be a Dollarmite Treasure

Island Adventure where our school

can win $5,000! All you will need to

do is make three or more deposits

through school during Term 2 and

you will be automatically entered into

the competition. More information

will be available in Term 2.

Well done to our 45 student bankers

yesterday. You are now an extra token

closer to claiming a reward.

We now have a dedicated student

banking email address. If you would

like to know more about this fabulous

program, please email

[email protected].

NAPLAN Information has been sent home with

all Year 3 and 5 students with today’s

newsletter. Please read this

information carefully and ask your

child’s class teacher about any

information you do not understand.

NAPLAN will be held from Tuesday

14th May to Thursday 16th May. A

letter about what students need for

these exams will be sent home in

Week 1 of next term.

Winter Uniform Please note that winter uniform is

expected to be worn in Terms 2 and

3. I understand that the weather can

still be warm occasionally at the

beginning and end of these dates but

students are able to put on and take

off jumpers and jackets as needed.

Please label your child’s clothing to

prevent any losses and encourage

your child to place these items into

their school bags as soon as they are

taken off.

Stage 2 Public Speaking Congratulations to the following

children who participated in our stage

speak-off for the Multicultural

Perspectives Public Speaking

Competition. Competition was very

close and they should all be extremely

proud of their efforts.

Lara *********, Audrey *****, Nicola

******, Naomi *****, Aria *****

and Riley *****.

Aria (Yr 3) and Riley (Yr 4) were

selected to represent our school in

the competition next term.

Year 5 Opportunity Class Placement 2014 The online application service for Year

5 Opportunity Class Placement 2014

SCHOOL DISCO

Our first school disco for 2013 will be held in the hall this Thursday 11th April.

K-2, 5:30-6:45pm

3-6, 7-8:30pm.

In line with our last disco, the following structures will be in place to alleviate overcrowding and overheating:

A separate undercover area will be set up just outside the hall for parents with tables and chairs;

The large door at the back of the hall will be raised so parents can still see their children dancing;

Children will be permitted to either be in the hall or sitting with their parents but they are not permitted to play

outside the hall;

The P&C will sell items from the side of the hall so that the view of the dance floor is not disrupted; and

One of our staff members will take photos inside the hall; we will send you a copy of the photo on Friday.

PLEASE HELP US BY REINFORCING THESE STRUCTURES WITH YOUR CHILDREN AND BEING SUPPORTIVE OF THEM ON

THE NIGHT.

Please note:

Hot drinks such as coffee and tea will not be sold to parents on the night, as previously advertised by the P&C. This

is for safety reasons.

In line with DEC guidelines, consumption of alcohol is not permitted on school grounds at this event.

P&C REPORT Thank you to all the parents who braved the weather to attend the P&C

meeting last Thursday. We voted to launch an MJPS P&C website to

promote all of our activities. Stay tuned for more information later in Term 2.

We also discussed an MJPS P&C logo. Please email [email protected]

if you have any logo ideas.

Disco Fever: It’s black and white and pink explosion disco time with our first

disco of the year tomorrow night (Thursday 11th April). The end of term

celebrations will be starting early with a mufti day (please bring a gold coin),

so wear something black, white or pink (or any other colour really). The K-2

disco runs from 5:30 to 6:45pm and the Years 3-6 session is on from 7 to

8:30pm. Admission costs $5 per child or $8 per family (two or more children).

Adults are free. There will be glow sticks as well as food to purchase with

prices ranging from 50c to $4.

Next term: As part of Mother’s Day celebrations, the P&C will run a stall

where each child has the opportunity to select a special present for their mum

(or significant female, eg. grandmother). The stall will be held on Friday 10th

May and will offer gifts for $3, $5 and $7. This year we will also be offering a

fantastic coupon book of ‘love’ chores and activities that kids can spoil their

mum (or significant female) with. You won’t want to miss out on that one! The

coupon book will be $2 with the purchase of a stall item and gift bags will

also be available for $1. Mother’s Day will be all wrapped up for the bargain

price of $10 or less! There will be something for every mum—from the

domestic goddess, the stylish supermum, the corporate highflyer, the sporty

spice mum and every variation in between!

Dates to remember:

Thursday 11 th April: mufti day and disco

Thursday 9th May: P&C meeting

Friday 10th May: Mother’s Day stall
