Last Sunday our wonderful Buildings and

Grounds Team and many parents volunteered to

tidy up the school. Windows were washed,

carpets were steam cleaned and a lot of cleaning

up took place inside and out. Thank you to Tim

Blanks our Buildings and Grounds Leader and

Will Radas for facilitating a productive morning.

K-P Transition

On Monday we had 41 children attend the P-K

Transition session. The pre-school children were

attentive and excited. It was a fun session for

some of our 2015 Preps and the teachers.

Teaching and Meeting Times

It is important for teachers to get the most out of

each hour of teaching. Often lessons begin late in

the mornings as parents enter the classrooms to

discuss issues with teachers. In order to keep on

top of our rigorous timetable, and to ensure we

are providing the required minutes of instruction,

per subject, per day, I would encourage parents

to farewell their children at line up or from the

school gate. The children’s diaries are the most

effective communication between home and

school. Parents are welcome to email teachers

regarding minor house-keeping issues. Parents

seeking time to discuss concerns or issues

should email or phone the school to arrange an

appointment with the teacher outside teaching,

special activities and assembly times. Likewise,

catching teachers on the run to and from class,

before and after school is not an appropriate time

to discuss concerns or issues.

Swimming

The program begins next term, starting with the

Grade 2 to 6 children. The Preps and Grade 1

children begin the program in week 4 (see the

web or sent home notice for detailed information).

2015 Enrolments

We have 88 Preps and 12 other students from

various grade levels enrolled for next year.

Additional classrooms have been ordered and will

arrive next term.

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to

Be Understood

Ms. Bampfield and I have been supporting

children recently, to help them seek first to

understand a situation, or another’s point of

view, before making a judgment and before

responding. The children have been learning

to try and see things from others’ viewpoints

(through different paradigms). We are finding

Habit 5 to be a real helper in making our

children more responsible for their words and

actions. I encourage all families to visit the

school’s website and have discussions about

the benefits of practicing Habit 5.

Last Day of Term 3

This Friday September 19th the children will be

dismissed at 2:30pm. It will be a footy dress

day and a Subway special lunch day lunch

orders are now closed. No gold coin donation

is required. The children will be dismissed

from the basketball courts after a short

assembly beginning at 2:20pm.

Anne Ziogos and her “Big Red Run”

Our amazing science teacher and running machine Anne

Ziogos has been at it again! Anne competed in the Big

Red Run, a 250km, 6-day stage race which started and

finished at the iconic Birdsville Pub at the edge of the

Simpson Desert in the heart of the Australian Outback.

The Big Red Run was started to raise funds for Type 1

Diabetes. It was the brain child of Greg Donovan, whose

son was diagnosed with diabetes in 2008. In 2012 Greg

formed a team of five Australians who became the first

team to ever run the four ‘deserts grand slam’ - they ran

through the Atacama, Gobi, Sahara and Antarctic

deserts. After this they wanted to finish the journey on

Australian sand, and that is how the Big Red Run was

born.

Anne completed the tough footrace in 28.46 hours and

was the second female across the finish line and

finishing in the top 5. An amazing effort !

Anne’s first multi-day was the 250km, 6-day Marathon

des Sables through the Sahara Desert last year. She

had to scramble over heights that scared her and climb

over big rocks with the help of other runners. To her

surprise Anne did well, pushing the pace with men who

were the same age as her children. Anne was the first

woman in her age group to cross the finish line.

We are extremely proud of our amazing science teacher!

Look what we won!

Did you see our lovely new wheelbarrow last week by the

sustainability notice board in the front entrance. Inside was lots of

other goodies to help our school’s kitchen garden and grounds look

amazing; including plant pots, fertilizer, plants and garden tools and

a $250 voucher for local ‘Nursery and Garden Industry Victoria’

nurseries!

Where did it come from I hear you ask? We can thank the ‘Victorian

Schools Garden Awards.’ We won one of their ‘Getting Started’ pack

grants. Last Tuesday Lesley Fyffe (who looks after our schools

gardens) and I, went to a special professional workshop at the

Caribbean Gardens Market hosted by the ‘Victorian Schools Garden

Awards’. During this workshop we were fortunate enough to meet

two inspirational gardeners who gave us lots of ideas that we can

come back and implement at Parktone. After the workshop we were

given a guided tour around the Caribbean Gardens trade markets

and awarded with our prize. We were pretty excited and look forward

to using the prize to helping our school grounds look amazing.

Next term, as we cruise through Spring and dive into Summer with

long sunny days (hopefully!) we hope to grow some produce and

seedling to sell, as well as setting up a yearly seed drive so watch

this space for more details.

If you fancy getting your hands dirty and helping with the school

kitchen garden please feel free to approach me, you can normally

find me in the kitchen garden elbows deep in soil. Even if you don’t

have green thumbs everyone is welcome to pop up, have a look

round and enjoy the Kitchen Garden. (only condition you pull up a

few weeds while your there!!)

KIDS GETTING CRAZILY CREATIVE IN ARTSMART Congratulations to the amazingly talented Art Smart students at Parktone Primary. They have done a stunning job

this term. It's great to see all the exciting areas of art explored and it's a treat to see what they get up to in such a

fun class! Here are a couple of samples of the amazing work the kids have done. Next term they will be making

home made snow and also having an online art exhibition….plus lots of other fun stuff!

Hi everyone. With Term 3 coming to a close I’m sure you are all looking forward to the warmer weather. The Canteen will have some changes to the Special Day Meals for Term 4 to reflect a Spring Summer Taste.

Monday: Sushi Rolls. Carrot, Cucumber with Chicken, Tuna or Avocado.

Tuesday: The ever popular Chicken Schnitzel Burger with Lettuce and Mayo.

Wednesday: Steamed Dim Sims with or without soy sauce

Thursday: Cheesy Macaroni. Add Tuna or Chicken for a tasty treat.

Friday: Of course Hot Dogs will stay on Fridays.

The menu will be available on the school website or email [email protected] and we will forward one on to you or pick one up from the Canteen.

Tennille’s last day will be on Thursday the 18th so she can take a

break before the arrival of her baby in term 4. I’m sure Tennille will drop by with her new baby and say hello.

Belinda, Daniela and Kelly will be in the Canteen to look after your lunch orders.

Don’t forget that the Canteen is open for your Morning Coffee or Hot Choc from 8.30am each Canteen morning, Soy milk available.

Have a great Spring Holiday break and we look forward to seeing you all in Term 4.

From the team@stircrazykids.
