Fr Joseph
Yesterday we gathered as a school community to thank Fr Joseph for his support and pastoral care of our
parish and school over the past four years. On behalf of the St Rita ’s school community I thank Fr Joseph
for his support of all that we have done and are doing here at school. We wish him well for his move and
will keep him in our prayers always. Fr Joseph takes up his new position at St Edward ’s from Thursday and we will have Fr Lado as our new priest from next weekend.
Mrs Garrad
This week we say goodbye to Mrs Samantha Garrad and wish her and her husband, Chis all the very best
for the birth of their third child. We pray for a safe delivery for Samantha and her baby and look forward to hearing about the arrival soon.
Ms Dannielle Garland will take over from Mrs Garrad and will teach 2L from Semester 2, I am sure you will join me in welcoming Dannielle to St Rtia’s next term.

St Rita’s Touch Footy
Congratulations to our St Rita’s Touch Footy players who were part of this seasons teams.
They played so well and demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship in every game and were great ambassadors of our school mission to Know More, Do More and Be More.
Congratulations to the U12 Boys team who played in the Division B Grand Final last Friday night. I am
happy to say these boys won in a nail biting 4:3 final score. From all reports it was an exciting match and well done!
Thank you to our St Rita’s teams Coaches - parents Stuart Goldston and Adam Baker. Without your support we would not be able to have teams compete.
Well done and congratulations again.
Best wishes to you and your family for a lovely holiday, one I hope that is filled with opportunities to enjoy family time together.

Greetings Parents and Carers
Reporting Process – Parent-Teacher Interviews
Thank you to those parents who were able to participate in our Parent-Teacher Interviews over the past
two weeks. Our thanks also to our teachers for making themselves available to parents during this
period. Tomorrow (Wednesday 26/06), parents should have access to their children ’s written Student
Progress Reports for Semester 1, 2019. Our aim is to have the reports successfully uploaded to the Parent
Portal today, with the intention of opening parent access to them by 3pm tomorrow. We will also upload
the Cohort Reports, which offer a summary of the assessments across each year level. We will advise parents via email if that timeframe changes for any reason.
Thank You
Thank you to all our families for what has been another busy and sometimes challenging term, but one
that has been both enjoyable and very productive. I wish you all a safe and refreshing holiday period and
look forward to another positive term I Term 3. Take care.
Regards,
Brian Mason APA

Music News
Just a reminder that our end of semester ‘Music Showcase’ will be this Wednesday night (26th June) in
the Unitas, starting at 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Students will need to be seated in the Unitas at 6.15pm. Please make sure you bring something warm!
Tea and coffee will be available on the night.
If students have not yet returned their form for the concert, could students please return it to the office,
or to myself. Choir students will also need to wear choir shirts. Junior Choir will need to bring a shower
cap for Splish Splash, and if possible, could students bring their shower caps to Tuesday morning rehearsal. Should be a great concert!
Choir will resume in Week 1 of Term 3. This will be an important rehearsal for both choir’s as we will be rehearsing with Mr Peter Crane in preparation for Redland’s Eisteddfod and QCMF.
Thank you for your support of the arts this term, and have a great break.

Sports News
Bayside Catholic Inter School Sport
On the Tuesday the 18th of June St Rita’s was involved in the Bayside Catholic Inter School Carnivals. We
had approximately 140 students from Grades 5 and 6 who represented our school in either soccer,
netball or touch.
All students can hold their heads high as they not only represented our school with their exceptional behaviour and school spirit, the teams all performed extremely well.
I would like to say big thank you to all the administration, leadership, teaching staff and school officers for all their help and support to help make this day a great success for our students.
Next Inter School Sports Day is on Tuesday July 23 where we will again be playing Football (soccer),
netball and touch. Friday training sessions will continue into next term.

Australian Maths Competition
Reminder to families to register for the Australian Mathematics Competition by the end of term. Forms
can be printed or collected from the office. Payment of $6.50 is due with enrolment of your child. This
money and the attached consent form to participate needs to be returned to school by the end of Term 2 (Friday June 28).
School-based maths competitions don’t get much bigger than this—with more than 15 million entries
since 1978 and students in more than 30 countries attempting the same problems each year.
At the Primary level, the school-based competition is open to entrants in years 3–6. They are asked to
solve 30 problems in 60 minutes. The problems get more challenging as the competition progresses, so
students of all abilities will be challenged and inspired. Students can practise online tests at any time
through the Australian Maths Trust website.
ICAS is an assessment that allows students to challenge themselves and be recognised for their
academic efforts. The assessment is now online (except for Year 3 and 4 Writing, which is still a paper
assessment). Assessments for registered students will be supervised in school hours and s itting dates will commence in Term 3. Learn more by visiting unsw.global/icas
If you would like your child to participate in any of the assessments, you can visit the new online Parent
Payment System to register your child and make a direct payment to UNSW Global. Online payment will
close on 31 July 2019. To register simply type unsw.global/parentpay into a web browser. You will then
require the schools access code to register and make payment for the assessment. St Rita’s access code is: 89d955faee
Please note that you can leave the Student ID field blank in the registration process. Please find below a
list of available assessments, year levels, sitting dates and prices. If you would like any further information, please contact Lisa Tuohey [email protected]
