Newsletter 1st April 2019 Term 1 Week 10
Principal’s Report Easter Holidays/ successful term
Term 1 will conclude on Friday 12 April after a wonderful 11 weeks of students challenging themselves and achieving excellent
results. I would like to wish everyone a safe, fantastic holiday. School will resume for students on Tuesday 30 April.
Aerobics results
Congratulations to our three amazing Aerobics teams—all winning gold medals in their sections at the School Aerobics Au-
tumn Challenge yesterday. Good Luck girls for the Regional Qualifier to be held in June.
Disco
Our school disco will be held on Wednesday 3rd April at 5:30—6:45pm for Infants and 7:00—8:30pm for Primary.
I would encourage all families to support this fundraising initiative from our school P & C.
Didge group
Our indigenous boys have the opportunity to be involved in learning the didgeridoo this Thursday with Mr Macdonald a guest
teacher from Morisset High School. This is a great opportunity for our indigenous students and we are looking forward to
having Mr Macdonald here.
Parent teacher interviews
Our parent teacher meetings are scheduled for Monday 8 April and Tuesday 9 April. Please book in for a time through our
school website. The booking code required is: 9t2mg
Please also note, these meetings are not required unless you have specific information you would like the class teacher to
know about your child. If you have been communicating regularly with the teacher, have recently had an IEP or PLP meeting,
or have nothing specific you need your child’s teacher to know, you do not need to book an appointment.
Easter Hat Parade/ Grandparents Day
We are looking forward to welcoming Grandparents into our school on
Thursday 11th April. For more information, please see details later in News-
letter.
Mini Fete Day
Mini Fete Day is fast approaching and the Year 6 students are busy planning
some great activities for their K-5 friends.
A Mini Fete Newsletter was sent home last week detailing the stalls and ac-
tivities on offer and also requests for donations to help make this day a suc-
cess. It will take place on Friday 12th April and is a great way to finish what
has been a very busy term. The Mini Fete is always a highlight for our stu-
dents and a great way for Year 6 to fundraise for their end of year celebra-
tions and gift to the school.
Carpark
A reminder that parents should not park in the school carparks. Teachers
begin arriving from school just after 7am and we are finding on a daily basis
that parents are dropping students off to OOSHC in the Jones St carpark.
Please park on the street to walk your child in so students are not walking
through the carpark so we can keep our students safe.
SMS attendance
We have started sending SMSs to notify absences of student absences each day. Parents can reply via SMS or send in a note or
use the school app to provide a reason for absence. Please be aware that even a note via the app or email is sent in that day,
you may still receive a SMS about the absence. This is due to timing of emails and app notifications received and processed by
the class teacher on that day.
Warm regards,
Deb Hall
Principal

School Aerobics
Congratulations to our fabulous teams that competed yesterday
at the School Aerobics Autumn Challenge. All 3 teams won
gold medals in their sections.
This was a wonderful achievement after only training together
for 7 weeks, and also taking into consideration that more than
half of the girls are new to aerobics this year. The teams are
now preparing for the Regional Qualifier which will be held on
Saturday 25th June. Well done girls!

Grandparents Day and Easter Hat Parade
You are invited to join your grandchild or grandchildren and staff at our school for a special Grandparents Day and
Hat Parade - 11th April 2019
We would love for you to come along and visit our classroom, tell us about your school days, be part of a reading group
or join in a game or two.
Activities will commence at 10:00am in your grandchild’s classroom. This will be followed by a picnic at 11:00am with
your grandchild/ren in the playground (don’t forget to bring picnic rugs, chairs and lunch). The school will be providing
tea and coffee on the day. Cakes will be available for purchase from the canteen.
You are more than welcome to stay and enjoy the Easter Hat Parade at 12:00pm under the Primary Cola. Why not wear
a funky hat too?
Upon arrival and departure, we ask that you sign-in/out in our visitors’ books located in each classroom
for this day.
We look forward to seeing you all here for this special day and we are excited to share our school life with you.
Thank you

Ethics Classes
It is my pleasure to announce that the first Primary Ethics lessons have commenced at Warners Bay Public School. Ethics
classes are available as an option in NSW public primary schools during the Special Religious Education/Special Education in
Ethics (SRE/SEE or ‘scripture’) timeslot. Primary Ethics is the charity authorised by the Department of Education to create
curriculum and train volunteers to deliver ethics classes. The ethics curriculum is available for children from Kindergarten
through to year 6.
We have our trained volunteer teaching stage 1 students, and a further three volunteers currently going through the ethics
training course. In term 2 hopefully we will have ethics classes across all of infants and into primary. Ethics classes aim to
help the children develop the skills of critical thinking and to view ethical issues from different angles. They are encouraged
to carefully listen to what others have to say, respectfully disagree with others if their opinion differs, and to build on other
student’s ideas.
If you are interested in enrolling your child in ethics classes, please contact the school office. For more information about
the Primary Ethics program, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au
More volunteers are greatly needed! If you, or anyone from the community you know is interested in volunteering, please
apply via the website www.primaryethics.com.au, or contact the school.

by Friday 3rd May 2019 to be eligible for groups in Term 2.

Term 2.
P&C Hot Cross Bun Drive

tion on Tuesday 9th April.
OoSHC
Firstly, on behalf of OSHC staff and children, congratulations Aerobics teams in winning gold at your very first representative
tournament ... the best is yet to come.
Children may come home talking about clubs at OSHC. Our afternoon routine has changed a bit to avoid having almost 60
children in the same space to mark rolls. We continue to experiment with creating different spaces on different days for
children to experience construction, arts n crafts, drama, dress-ups, board games, cooking, sports, outside group games,
french and guitar.
Moving into the colder months, parents please ensure children have a jacket in their school bags with their name clearly
marked, not just on labels, but in the lining for easier identification. OSHC does have a separate lost property to school, so if
your child leaves an item behind at OSHC, we either endeavour to return it, or is located in a blue bin near parent sign-in
desk.
When children love their pets so much they can imagine and sculpt using different medium to re-create; kindies practice
their handball skills with older children; and one child even conducted a survey for an afternoon of staff and children's fa-
vourite songs for his 'song portfolio' (is this a DJ in the making). That's why the staff of Camp Australia love their work; get-
ting to hang out and harness the diversity of your children.
Don't forget school holidays are just around the corner, and to register, your nearest Camp Australia vacation care is
Belmont Christian College or Barnsley Public School.
Kindest regards
Pam Connell
