Assistant Principal’s Report

Another busy term comes to a close. The K-2 students certainly have been busy learning all about Australia and our

place in the world. I am looking forward to seeing our World expo displays in the hall. Our students have really

enjoyed expanding their knowledge of other cultures. I am sure we have planted the seeds of travel into their

minds.

It has been wonderful to meet the new kinder train students for 2017. I am impressed with how excited they are

to be coming to Warners Bay Public School. Their learning journey begins and the Warners Bay community is looking

forward to watching each stage of their development.

Year 5 Girls Dance Group – Term 4

Just a reminder that for the first three weeks of the term, our lessons will be on Thursday mornings at 8:30.

Canteen

Thanks once again to our lovely volunteers who help to keep our canteen open as much as possible. Our Term 4

Roster is now in the canteen and would welcome any help. Even if you are only available for half a day, it all helps.

Please note this week that the Canteen in open today and tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday) and then will be closed

for the rest of the week for stocktake and cleaning.

P&C News

Thanks to our parents that came long and supported the Trivia Night on the weekend. It was a fun night and we

appreciate your support in helping to raise funds for our school. Many thanks also to parents that helped in the

canteen on Disco night.

WBPS Rugby League Team

It’s been a busy year for our WPBS Rugby League boys. Well Done team!

Kinder News

Hello everyone. The Kindergarten Teachers would like to wish everyone a warm farewell for the school holidays. Have fun

together and keep safe. We look forward to seeing you all again in Term 4.

Warm weather

Please remember your child’s hat and cold water bottle. The weather is warming up. NAMES on everything that

comes to school please.

Lost property

We have so many jumpers, sloppy joes and food containers floating around with no names. It is difficult to return to

its rightful owner if there is no identification.

Homework Bags

Well done to all the families that remember to return the homework bags on Thursday. It makes life easier for

your class teacher to reorganise and hand out the new bags for the week.

We have had some great feedback from parents about how much fun these bags are. We hope you are enjoying

them in your family.

KH have loved watching the dance choreography their friends have done. The videos have been emailed to Mrs

Hoscher or brought in on a thumb drive and the friends can view it.

Activities at school…

So many fun activities in this past two weeks…

Father’s Day - we hope you all loved your superhero medals and were given the free hugs and smooches promised on

these medals. Children loved making these for their SUPERHERO DADS and GRANDADS.

Thanks for giving up time to celebrate with your kids at the BBQ. The children appreciate you taking time to

celebrate their place of learning.

Father’s Day Stall - Thanks to the many mums giving up their time to help your child choose special gifts for you.

These mums do an amazing job at our school.

NAIDOC DAY

Thanks to Mrs Jodie Stewart and her helpers for a wonderful NAIDOC ceremony. We were entertained with

Aboriginal dancers from WBPS, learnt about storylines of the local aboriginal culture and had fun with the various

activities around the school.

DISCO

Thanks to the mums who supervised the canteen and thanks to the teachers for giving up family time to stay at

school and supervise your children at the school disco. Money raised goes straight to your school. Once again, we

have a special group of parents that care about your kids and give their time freely to provide these experiences.

Same lovely faces… thanks so much! You know who you are.

NRL afternoon

Thanks to Mr Andrew Batchelor. WOW!!!

The NRL afternoon was just fabulous. Kindy boys and girls were treated to 30 minutes of activities with footballs,

running, catching, kicking.

And the best part is that we have 1 more afternoon to look forward to. We have thoroughly enjoyed both of these

afternoons.

Gymnastics

Thanks to Miss Lisa Bath who is a qualified gymnastics teacher who is providing Kindy with a small skill session of

gymnastics. The kids have really enjoyed learning stretching and rolling and tumbling.

What’s happening in KH?

Work Experience Student

We were so lucky to have a work experience student for 5 days.

Sam Hawkins was a wonderful role model and helper in KH. He was a

Year 10 student from HUNTER SCHOOL OF THE PERFORMING

ARTS. KH helped him to realise that his career choice of teaching

kindergarten is the right one.

Reminder.

A letter was sent home at the beginning of the term asking for a

family photo and informing parents and carers of the costume

requirements. KH are showing off their skills with a signing choir. I

am sure you will be impressed. We are so excited to show you.

At this stage, only 3 family photos have been emailed to me.

This is the final invitation- if you would like a family photo included in our concert slideshow, please email asap. If

not, that’s fine too.

Thank you “Angel Gollop” for helping us in KH.

Stage One News

Welcome to the last week of Term which has been extremely busy. Don’t forget to put these dates in your diary.

Week 10

Monday 19th September till Friday 23rd September – Swim School Week 2

Tuesday 20th September – NRL Backyard League Coaching Session #3

Thursday 22nd September – Infants Assembly – run by 1LJ and 1M non swimmers

Friday 23rd September – Last day of Term 3

SWIM SCHOOL

Swim School continues this week. All students are to be commended on their behaviour and great attitude.

What’s happening in 2M? I can’t believe it is the last week of term already! 2M have been working so hard and have had a fantastic time

participating in all the activities that have taken place over the past two weeks. We have enjoyed learning NRL skills

at the Backyard League coaching sessions and have our final one this Tuesday. Although I was on leave, Miss Nikki

and 2M told me that the NAIDOC Day celebrations were great, and that everyone loved the activities they

participated in.

The class has learnt about Italy as our focus country during the Olympic Games. We discovered that it is located in

Europe, looks like a high-heeled boot on the world map, and many delicious foods that we regularly enjoy originated

in Italy, such as: pasta, bolognaise, lasagne and pizza. Miss Nikki showed the class a YouTube clip about how gelato is

made and I brought some in for everyone to taste. Most of 2M loved the gelato and thought it was delicious!

I have noticed that we are running low on tissues at the moment, as there have been a lot of children with colds and

allergies. If you didn’t send in a box of tissues for the class to share earlier this year, it would be greatly

appreciated if you did, so that we have some in our classroom to use.

Wishing you a safe and happy holiday break,

Maxine Morton and 2M

Stage Two News

Thank you to all those people who attended our late, but fantastic, NAIDOC day ceremony and celebrations. It was

such a great day, thanks to Miss Stewart and others. The students and teachers had a great day.

You will notice an excursion to Glenrock in the Term 4 invoice. This is to complement our science unit: Living World.

We will get a bus to Kahibah, walk from the Yuelarbah Car Park to Glenrock Lagoon and then along Burwood Beach to

Merewether Baths, looking at the different habitats along the way, evidence of Aboriginal occupation, evidence of

early British settlement and have a great walk as well. We get picked up after we have lunch (and possibly a paddle)

and brought back to school.

What’s happening in 4J?

Well, what a fantastic camp trip we had last week, and what a great bunch of children to take. The students were

enthusiastic and willing to let themselves be challenged by some fairly difficult activities. I’m sure many are still

talking about things they experienced – they certainly are in class.

In amongst camp and other activities we are still working on our ukulele song which we will be performing at the

Showcase Concert next term, and have been asked to perform it at the Newcastle Ukulele Festival.

I will be sending out permission notes this week to get an idea of how many people would be willing and able to get

their children to the festival to perform either the Saturday or Sunday of 22-23 October. I will have details early

next term on the specific date and time. I will need at least 12 students to perform, but happy if the whole class

can make it.

Next term we will be starting our science topic: Living World.

Stage Three News

Urgent reminder: All Year 5 and 6 students must have their Bathurst payments finalised and permission note

returned no later than this Friday, 23rd September. This finalisation date was discussed at the Term 1 Parent

Information session and has been in numerous newsletters during the year. Many thanks to the families who have

been able to get this sorted already, and we appreciate that our other families are trying hard to do so by the end

of this week.

Before the end of term, Stage 3 families will receive their Bathurst Countdown newsletter. In it will be information

pertaining to what kind of clothing and items to pack (that way, families who need to purchase clothes in the

holidays know what will be required). It will also include messages re departure and return to school times,

accommodation venues and will also have an attached medical form to be completed and returned by a date early in

Term 4. Our Stage 3 students are getting very excited about the upcoming trip and are currently working on a

History Unit linked to the exploration of Australia & NSW, and the discovery of gold in Australia and the impact it

had on the development of our country as a democracy.

Year 7 2017 - WBHS Application Package due back to Ms Patrick by Thursday 22nd September (this week) as

she has to deliver to high school on Friday morning. Thank you for ensuring it is here on time!

Term 4 is a particularly busy and emotionally charged time of the year for Year 6 as they have so many ‘last’

experiences of primary school life. We hope that parents and other community members who have watched them

grow into such wonderful young people, will be here to celebrate their final primary milestones along with them. If

you have not yet sent Mr Batchelor your bundle of photos to be included in the Year 6 farewell slide show – the last

day of this term really will be the cut-off date. Photos can be saved to a flash drive, scanned and emailed or sent in

and we will scan them and return the originals to you. This is a major task for Andrew and with camp, a school

musical and report writing (just to name a few big ticket items for next term) Mr B needs to get this finalised now.

We appreciate your assistance with regard to this matter.

Year 5 students, who are considering standing for election in Term 4, need to be planning and thinking about their

commitment and the possibility of presenting a speech. The Year 5 teachers will be speaking to the students early

in Term 4, so we hope that they are starting to think about their decision and will be ready when it’s time.

Year 5 and 6 at Newcastle Science and Engineering Challenge Day

On Friday 9th September, the largest group of both Year 5 and Year 6 students ever to represent WBPS at

Science & Engineering Challenge Day went off to have a fabulous day testing their brains and their team work skills

at this annual event held in New Lambton. Mrs Archer and Mr Batchelor accompanied the students, and commended

them on their fabulous efforts on the day.

All students represented their school with pride and learnt a lot about how to solve Science and Engineering

problems, all of which may foster an interest in these fields when they are thinking of a possible future career.

Caves Beach PS were the overall winners of the day but congratulations to WBPS students as I was so pleased to

hear that quite a few of our 12x 4 person teams won different team challenges during the day. It was so exciting to

have some Year 5 students attend for the first time. They learnt a lot and I’m sure they will be our ‘secret cards’

for next year’s competition.

What’s happening in 6P? This Friday will see 6P wishing a fond farewell and best wishes to Mr Wennerbom, as it is his last day with our class.

Mr W has been on a 10 week Internship program through Newcastle University and has brought a wonderfully

musical flavour to our classroom. For those of you who have not met him, Nathan is an accomplished guitarist and

has a wonderful singing voice and diverse knowledge of music. 6P have had the opportunity to take part in some

incredible music lessons and have worked in teams to write, create and perform music together. During this week

they will also be working with Mr W’s support, to create amazing ‘hands-on’ Maths lessons and games to share with

their fellow Year 6 friends in a big Maths Workshop session on Thursday. The students are really looking forward

to hosting a fun time for their friends. At the conclusion of the week, Nathan will be a qualified teacher and 6P and

I wish him all the best for a long and happy career in education.

Stage 3 staff and students also wish all of our families a great Term 3 break. See you back here in October, ready

for a busy and exciting end to 2016.
