>>> NewsAnnouncementsMessage from Ms Mark (Reception)As part of the Reception learning next week, Ms Mark has asked if some parents could bring in some clean, dry twigs and leaves – possibly with interesting patterns or colours. Thank you in advance

Dear Parents and Carers,

Yesterday I enjoyed lunch with the Reception and Year 1 children and was very pleased to see how independently they were eating. Even more impressive was how helpful so many

of the Year 1 pupils were when it came to tidying up and sorting the cutlery, crockery and trays. Well done everyone!

It was great to see so many parents at last night’s BRIDGES workshop. If you were not able to make it, you will find the handbook and power point on the website under ‘parent resources’. Many thanks to Ms Broadway and Ms Spencer for organising such an informative session.

With best wishes,

Rachel Macfarlane, Principal

Black History Month

To celebrate Black History Month the Reception pupils have been learning about Martin Luther King. The children have been making a ‘We Have a Dream Poster’ with handprints.

The Reception pupils have also learned about Garrett Morgan who made a significant impact on society with his work with ‘Three Position Traffic Signals’; the children have been playing a Traffic Light drama game to help them understand the signals of ‘stop’, ‘slow down’ and ‘go’.

The Year 1 pupils have been listening to music in the mornings by famous black artists and are looking forward to one of our parents visiting next week to read the classes a story. They will also be learning about Rosa Parks. I look forward to sharing some photographs next week.

Message from Year 1 TeachersPlease can you ensure your child has their guided reading book with them every day along with their reading record. Thank you.

The pupils have been looking at the properties of various materials which has involved investigations around whether or not materials float or sink, whether they are waterproof, flexible etc. If you would like further information about Empiribox, you can visit their website www.empiribox.org

Here are some pictures from the budding scientists in Glennie class this week:

"We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” Isaac Newton BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a pupil's character and learning power and enable him/her to grow into a well-rounded individual and resilient learner.

There are seven BRIDGES habits that we will be working on, which will rotate on a weekly cycle throughout the year. The BRIDGES habit of the week will always be introduced at the beginning of the week during the Monday assembly and reinforced throughout the week across the curriculum. Each class teacher will award a certificate to a pupil that they feel has demonstrated the BRIDGES focus for the week.

Each week we will update you on the BRIDGES habit that will be introduced in the coming week and offer some top tips on how to reinforce the habit at home too. Please also refer to the Primary BRIDGES wheel above
