MINUTES OF WSATVA MEETING OCT. 18, 2017
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Led by Dwight Balmer
GUESTS & NEW MEMBERS: The meeting was called to order by President Steve Chapel. We welcome
New Member Eric Walker. The Minutes for September stand as printed unless there are corrections.
President Steve Chapel took a moment to announce that Conrad Tucker is now in charge of sending out Emails
with Newsletters and/or Ride Notices attached. Contact Conrad if you are not receiving the Newsletter via
email.
TREASURER‟S REPORT: Conrad Tucker gave the Treasurers Report listing deposits and checks since
September, 2017.
SARC: Ken Sanders reported on the following search & rescue events. In September, there were two people
assisted on the Uncompahgre. There were three people assisted October 9th at Black Ridge. Assistance was
asked for from Garfield County but this resulted in a „stand down‟ and SARC also provided security for the Air
Show in the North Desert on September 30 and October 1st.
TRAILS: Tom Derryberry said there has not been any work parties since those already announced at the last
Club meeting. Tom also reminded Club Members to „turn in their hours‟ no matter which trail they ride. It all
„counts‟ for the Forest Service and BLM as they send in those hours to Washington to „show‟ volunteer hours in
their area. Steve and Tom reported that „new signs‟ have been placed in the Cactus Park area by BLM.
SAFARI: There have been no rides scheduled due to the hunting season. As always, however, we need Ride
Leaders. Call Steve to offer your favorite trail where you are willing to lead a ride.
SAFETY: Larry Bullard took the floor and gave an excellent presentation on „Check The Weather—Your Life
May Depend On It!‟ Always be prepared—before you leave the house and while on the trail. Larry gave two
web pages that contain „up to date‟ weather information - http://www.crh.noaa.gov/gjt National Weather
Service and http://www.wunderground.com Weather Underground. Mobile Apps: Search for MyRadar and/or
search for WEATHER. Reminder: Check any app while in town—they don‟t work without cell service.
OLD BUSINESS: Steve Chapel asked for a report on the Concert Parking series of days that members of the
club volunteered for. Conrad Tucker stated that Jon Gartz was the „spearhead‟ in this effort. The last „Concert‟
we assisted was October 14th. Conrad asked those Club Members who helped with this effort to „stand and be
recognized‟. There was spontaneous applause for those who stood!! The Club received about $2,000 for our
efforts in this regard!
Steve asked for a report on the Club booth at Humphrey RV Open House. Jim Reed stated that we had many
„contacts‟ and gave out maps. Jim had his computer set up with a „slideshow‟ of club pictures playing. Many
people stopped to look at the pictures!!!!
Steve Chapel referred Club Members to the Oct. Newsletter which contained a „Thank You‟ letter from Clay
Watson, President, Pandora‟s European Motorsports, Chattanooga, TN for our help in recovering Ken Ivey‟s
motorcycle from a trail on Aug. 29th. Included in the envelope with the letter from President Watson was a
check for $500!!! WOW!!

NEW BUSINESS: Jan Curtis addressed the membership and announced two upcoming parades.
Veterans Day Parade: November 11th. Stage at 8th and White. Line up at 1:00 pm for the Parade at 2:00 pm.
As was the case last year, Jim and Ayn are going to have red, white and blue balloons filled with Helium! Be at
the staging area at noon if you can help with the balloons.
Parade of Lights Parade: December 2nd. Staging area: 9th and Colorado. Line up at 4:00 p.m.; Parade starts
at 5:00 pm. The theme this year is „Songs of the Seasons‟. Jim Reed will „lead our entry‟ with speakers
playing a medley „Christmas Songs‟. Reminder: No „Santa Claus‟ on your machines and you can‟t „throw
candy‟ from your machines. Decorate your machines and come have fun at these two Parades!!!!
Ken Sanders has shirts for sale. Paul Frey has whip flags for sale. The „deadline‟ for placing items for sale in
newsletter is around the 1st of each month. Send details to Newsletter Editor Kathie Iles.
Next Club meeting will be November 15, 2017 at the Sheriff‟s Posse Building, 25 & F1/2 Rd at 7:30 p.m.
Refreshments will be provided by Mike Yeager and Kathy Breiner and Stephanie Jackson.
Jim Barnhill moved to adjourn. John Kenagy won the Club drawing of $42.50
Respectfully submitted, Conrad & Mary Tucker

THE PARADE of LIGHTS
The Parade of Lights is on Saturday, December 2nd. The theme is "Songs of The Seasons".
The parade starts at 5 pm and we line up on Colorado Avenue at the corner of 9th
Street & Colorado, facing
east. Jim Reed will lead the group and provide a medley of the following Christmas Songs: Jingle Bells, Deck
The Halls, Frosty The Snowman, Let It Snow, Up On The House top, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, and
Holly Jolly Christmas.
If you are new to this parade here are some tips:
*We recommend using household LED's instead of lights as you can use 10 times as many without
overloading your electrical system on your machine. (Note: if you overload the system either your lights go out
or the machine quits or both).
*You need to pick up a power inverter to plug into the power jack/cigarette lighter plug on the machine. The
higher the wattage, the better it will work. You can get a 600 Watt power inverter at WalMart and other places
for about $30. A 600 Watt inverter will power 500+LED's without dragging your battery down. You can also
use battery operated lights on your wheels if you like. Some people go all out for this parade and others just
throw some lights or LED's on the ATV so is up to you. You can add stuffed animals or Christmas packages.
*You can decorate around the theme, or not.
*You should know that we are some of the warmest people in the parade because when you go down the
street at an idle a lot of heat from the engine helps to keep us warm and those in “side by sides” can use blankets
to stay warm.
Thousands of people attend this parade and two-thirds of them are kids. We are not allowed to throw
candy from the machines. If you want to give out candy, you will need to put a supply on someone else‟s
machine and walk to hand it out. Also, no one is allowed to dress as Santa as there is only one Santa and he is
at the end of the parade.
We may be going to a restaurant for food or drink immediately after we finish at 3rd
and Main Street.
If we do this, we will let those participating know about it. Have fun!

John Kenagy & Larry Jones took turns
with the Plasma cutter while Mike Yeager,
Carl Desrosiers, David Riley, Steve Chapel
& Jim Reed helped move the pipe
as required. →
Special Thanks go out to Tom Dennis for supplying
the pipe, the cutting tools, and of course the morning
donuts and pizza lunch. We now have 36 new
lengths of pipe. Most of those will need to be
transported to our Storage spot at Hightower
before June next year.
