Personal StatementI’m currently studying year two Product Design Technology with Professional Experience. I’m also the Product Design course representative. Ideally I would love to spend a year in industry. One where I can be creative with and have the right balance of artistic and technical. I wish to improve my skills like Solidworks, element finite analysis and concept sketching. At the end of my degree I’m hoping to do a masters in Man-agement. I work well in groups and in a leadership role.

Higher EducationUniversity Of Brighton: BSc (Hons) Product Design Technology with Professional Practise

Research: Collecting and analysis secondary/ primary research. Translating data into infographics. Creating visual reports. Ideation: Using multiple methods to produce sketches/ concept drawings of new relevant products. Using Pro markers for rendering. Development: 3D Modelling chosen designs within Solidworks, Reverse Engineering. Doing material analysis and detailed product costing.

Launch: Creating marketing for the product. Im-proving skills throughout the Adobe Suit Programs. Learning marketing/presentation techniques. Technology: Done a pasta bridge project, showing leadership roles. Learning basic Arduino. Creating circuits for use with Arduino’s. Finite Element Analy-sis within Solidworks. Creating precise Solidworks parts and running simulations under realistic mate-rial restraints and forces.

First Year Result: Research-2:1/Ideation-1:1/Development-2:1/Launch-2:1/Technology-1:1. Second Year Result: Research-1:1/Ideation-2:1/Developemtn-TBC/Launch-TBC/Technology-TBC.

For full examples of my work and examples of these skills please refure to my online portfolio.

Both of these jobs are in the customer services industry and from these I have learnt a number of valuable communication skills which I bring forward into my project work and group work. These have also improved my organisation skills. These skills transfer into my design work as I have a deep understanding of what makes people happy and believe I have a understanding of how customers think.

Second Year Changes:Each module follows the same rough format. The second year brief is a product for the ageing population.Development: Focusing less on material analysis and more on creating a product suitable for the user and there specific needs. Research: Included an literature review onto of first year format. Technology: Creating a bicycle light using an arduino to create an embedded microcontroller into a circuit.
