MontageDescription: Create an inspirational montage that blends one or two images together.

    Programs used: Photoshop

    Date: May 31, 2014

    Course: Comm 130: Visual Media

    Section: 5

    Instructor: Julie Peterson

Objective:-Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and ow

-Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant message

-Learn to blend images t ogether gradually, using masks. (Two or more images)

-Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements.

-Use a mask to apply a lt er to one part of the image (Copy the layer, then add the lter

and mask it out on part of the image. If not an artistic lter, try sharpen > Unsharp mask,

    or Blur > Gaussian Blur.)

-Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice)-Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size. Theme word(s)

-Select good quality images. (Note background should be at least 16501275 pixels)

Process: First I found the image for the background. I did not do anything special to i t.Then I thought of the picture of my sister with a horse that she sent home from her mis-

sion. I blended it into the background using the mask tool. Before I did that I made the

photo black and white. Then I smart sharpened it a bit. I liked how the post showed the

rule of thirds, and I made sure that everything was aligned with something else.

PhotodesignDescription: Demonstrate good photography skills along with Photoshop editing.Take original photo and make a poster layout.

    Programs used:Photoshop

    Date:May 24, 2014

    Course: Comm 130: Visual Media

    Section:5

    Instructor name:Julie Peterson

    Objective:-Learn basic photography skills.

-Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the

    colors into the layout.

-Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.

-Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for

    NDE (non-destructive editing.)

-Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.-Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.

-Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.

Process: First I took some picture from around campus demonstrating certaindesigns like rule of thirds, backgroundocus, oreground ocus, lead room, insidelight, and outside light. Tis picture o the Spori was to demonstrate outside light.Afer I uploaded this onto the computer I edited it in Photoshop. I edited the levels, selected colors, vibrance, and I sharpened the building and trees. Ten I added thetext. I ound a quote rom Jacob Spori, who the building was named afer, and chosecolors, and onts, and styles. I also added an outside glow so that the black wouldnot clash with the blue sky so much.

BrochureDescription:A two-page brochure using four images, one with a text wrap, and anoriginal logo.

    Programs used:InDesign

    Date: July 12, 2014

    Course:Comm 130: Visual Media

    Section:5

    Instructor: Julie Peterson

Objective:-Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

-Create an original company logo and use i t in a brochure.

-Incorporate quality images. (Incorporate at least four quality images (Not including

the logo). One should be clipped i n Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the

text follows the cutout shape of the image.

-Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs, headers,

and subheaders.-Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process:I made this entire brochure in InDesign. First I had to gure out themeasurements so that when I printed it and folded it, it would look like a brochure.

Then I chose the color scheme, which is just black and white because that is what

my logos original colors were. I chose some pictures of books, magazines, and

newspapers and made them black and white in Photoshop then placed them in

InDesign. For the picture that I text wrapped I did the same thing, but I also used

the quick selection tool to get rid of the picture background. I used alignment to put

in the pictures and quotes on the inside page. I als o wrote 250 of my own words for

    the inside information.

Description: A full-bleed color Event Ad that was created only with Microsoft Word and ascanned image.

    Programs used:WordDate: May 17, 2014

    Course:Comm 130: Visual MediaSection: 5

    Instructor name: Julie Peterson

Objective:-Comprehend image s izing (how pixels and inches work together)

-Find, scan and import a high-quality image.

    -Create a full-bleed design.

-Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience.

-Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process: First, I scanned the image of the runners. In Word only I then blurred and set the pictureto grayscale leaving the front runner alone. Then I did some sketches to decide what I wanted it to

look like. I added the triangles because when I see them I think of ags which reminds me of relays.

They also remind me of a track that has arrows. I chose the colors based on what the runner was

wearing and it worked out because it was triadic on the color wheel. I chose a owing script font for

the title because it reminds me of the movement of running.

LogosDescription:Three different logos for the same company.

    Programs used: Illustrator

    Date:June 7, 2014

    Course: Comm 130: Visual Media

    Section:5

    Instructor:Julie Peterson

Objective:-Create three completely different, original logos to t a company or personal image that will

appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs.

-Use only the tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator pre-fab ares, symbols, etc. No

photos or auto live-tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it with the pen/

pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)

-Gather opinions from at least ten outside sources about which logo appeals most to them.

Process: I used Illustrators for this project. I used what I learned from the activity to makethe pizzas in the second logo. I used the pen t ool to create them and added a shadow. I messedaround with a lot of different fonts until I found some that worked well with the logo. I really like

the Apple Chancery font used in the rst two logos. I had to really think about the color scheme

so I used what I have learned about that while creating the logos.
