Invocation Pastor: We gather this morning in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the

    Holy Spirit. People: Amen.

Pastor: We live in the season of Pentecost, the time between Jesus ascension and His return as King of kings. We were dead in our transgressions and sins, but are now alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6

People: For God so loved us that He has made a way for us that we may not perish, but have eternal life.

  • Pastor: Jesus tells us, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though they die, yet shall they live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.” John 11

    People: God is good!

Pastor: All the time! People: All the time!

    Pastor: God is good!

People: Therefore, since we are justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have received access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God. Romans 5

Let us come to Him then with an honest heart to worship Him in spirit and truth.

Confession and Absolution Pastor: We find in The Augsburg Confession part XII, "Concerning Repentance" the

following: Concerning repentance it is taught that those who have sinned after baptism obtain forgiveness of sins whenever they come to repentance and that absolution should not be denied them by the church.

People: Now properly speaking, true repentance is nothing else than to have contrition and sorrow, or terror about sin, and yet at the same time to believe in the Gospel and absolution that sin is forgiven and grace is obtained through Christ. Such faith, in turn, comforts the heart and puts it at peace.

Pastor: Then improvement should also follow, and a person should refrain from sins. For there should be the fruit of repentance, as John says in Matthew 3:8, "Bear fruit worthy of repentance." John the Apostle put it this way in his first letter: "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." …pause for reflection…. So, we come before God and confess:

People: You know me Lord. All I have done, and all I have not done. I acknowledge what I have done and not done. There is nothing hidden from You. If I stood before You in all Your holiness on Judgment Day, if every secret sin I have committed and every idle word I have spoken came out as evidence I would be utterly guilty before You. So, I turn to You, trusting in Your Word, confessing my sin, asking for Your forgiveness and grace. Thank You that You take away the sin of the world, and that includes mine. You have suffered me, and loved me, and called me. I know, confess, and forsake my sin, and yield myself to You, Jesus, my Lord and Savior.

Pastor: Almighty God, in His mercy, has given His Son to die for us and, for His sake,

forgives us all our sins. Receive the great gift of the absolution of your sins. As you have believed and confessed, as a called servant of Jesus our Christ, and

  • by His authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

    People: Amen.

Kyrie Eleison People: Lord, have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Christ have mercy.

Gloria People: Glory be to God on high and on earth peace, good will to all. Lord, we praise Your name on high, worship You and glorify. To the Lamb of God we cry and join the angel’s song. Gloria! Let the music flow. Gloria! To the earth below. Gloria! Feel our hearts aglow with the joyful angel’s song.

You have borne the sins of all. Mercy, Lord, and hear our call. Ev’ryone both great and small, come join the angel’s song. Gloria! Let the music flow. Gloria! To the earth below. Gloria! Feel our hearts aglow with the joyful angel’s song.

You, alone, the Holy One, You, alone, God’s only Son. In Your name we’ve just begun to join the angel’s song.

Gloria! Let the music flow. Gloria! To the earth below. Gloria! Feel our hearts aglow with the joyful angel’s song.

Prayer of the Day Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you.

Pastor: Daily Text The hearing ear and the seeing eye – the Lord has made them both.

Proverbs 20:12 “Blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.”

Matthew 13:16 Let us pray: People: Jesus, Your offer of seeing eyes, and hearing ears moves me to ask You for them. Too often, I live below the spiritual privileges You provide for me – forgive me. Open me up again to see, to hear, and to experience Your promises for me. Grant opportunities today to speak these promises to others You send to me. Amen.

Scripture Readings First Lesson Isaiah 25:1-9 1 O LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.

2 For you have made the city a heap, the fortified city a ruin; the foreigners' palace is a city no more; it will never be rebuilt. 3 Therefore strong peoples will glorify you; cities of ruthless nations will fear you.

4 For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a shelter from

  • the storm and a shade from the heat; for the breath of the ruthless is like a storm against a wall,

5 like heat in a dry place. You subdue the noise of the foreigners; as heat by the shade of a cloud, so the song of the ruthless is put down.

6 On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined.

7 And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations.

8 He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken.

9 It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

Second Lesson Philippians 4:1-9 1 Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.

2 I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord. 3 Yes, I ask

you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness

be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in

everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Reader: Please rise for the reading of the Gospel. God has given us Good News. People: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. You have the words of eternal life. (Psalm 119:105, John 6:68)

Gospel Lesson Matthew 22:1-14 1 And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying,

2 “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son,

3 and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come.

4 Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’ 5 But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business,

6 while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.

7 The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.

8 Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy.

9 Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’

10 And those servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. So the wedding hall was filled with guests.

11 “But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment.

12 And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer

  • darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 14 For many are called,

    but few are chosen.”

Pastor: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise be to You, O Christ.

Nicene Creed People: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and

earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit He became incarnate from the virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son He is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

    Offering Anthem The Prayer Choir

Prayers of the Church Pray The congregation is invited to join in prayers that include whole Church,

the nation, those in need, the parish, additional petitions and special concerns.

Pastor: Let's join together to pray with Jesus for all that He loves right here, and to the ends of the earth. Father, our Father in heaven, You are the present active, Creator, and Redeemer of our heart, soul, mind and body. People: Thank You Lord, that in You we are made a part of Your great salvation of all that You have created. You have made us Your redeemed children. We join today with all those throughout the world who follow You, and pray that Your kingdom would come, and Your will would be done among us as it is in heaven.

Pastor: Lord, in Your mercy, People: hear our prayer.

  • The prayers conclude with these words…

Pastor: You are our God, and we are Your people... Thank You that You hear our prayers, and work in all things for the good of those who love You. To You be all glory, honor, and praise. People: Amen.

Preface, Proper Preface and Sanctus Pastor: The Lord be with You. People: And also with you.

Pastor: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord.

Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

Pastor: It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all times and in all Places offer thanks and praise to You, O Lord, holy Father, through Christ our Lord; who on this day overcame death and the grave, and by His glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so, with the Church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise Your name and join their unending hymn:

People(sung)Holy, holy, holy Lord; Lord God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Words Of Institution Pastor: In the night in which He was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave

thanks, broke it, and gave it to His disciples saying: “Take and eat, this is My body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” Again after supper, He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink saying: “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this in remembrance of Me.”

The Lord’s Prayer Pastor: Lord, remembering Your love and Your life we pray as You taught us to pray: People: Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

Distribution Of Holy Communion All who sincerely believe in the real presence of Christ in the Holy Communion – that the cup of blessing is the Communion of the blood of Christ and the bread is the Communion of the body of Christ, and sincerely believing that in receiving Him we have the

forgiveness of our sins, salvation, and strength for the Christian life, come – partake of the Lord’s Supper.
