nissan's porreco press
TRANSCRIPT
To celebrate Earth Day, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg joined with Nissan officials to announce that six Nissan Leaf taxis would go into service this spring. The plan, Bloomberg said, will help the city "answer important questions about incorporating electric taxis into the fleet, so that we can achieve the goal of a
one-third electric taxi fleet by 2020."
Included in the test will be
the installation of several DC fast-charging stations in New York City, which will enable Leaf taxi drivers to recharge their cars to 80 percent of capacity in 30 minutes or less. Those
stations are now going into the ground, although Nissan officials privately concede that the planning, permitting, permissions, and paperwork involved in
adding such infrastructure have been more onerous than expected.
Whether taxi drivers will resist the need to stop and recharge during their shifts remains an open question. The test plan was originally scheduled to start a year ago, but Nissan officials held off until the company could provide updated 2013 Nissan Leafs from itsTennessee assembly plant.
At least some New York City Council members advocate for electric taxis, to reduce emissions. They have criticized the city's "Taxi of Tomorrow" program, which uses a lengthened and adapted Nissan NV200 minivan as the sole vehicle for taxis starting at the end of this year, because that vehicle is currently offered only with a gasoline engine. Nissan is testing an all-electric version of the NV200 in a variety of locations;
it uses Leaf underpinnings.
We drove the Nissan e-NV200 electric minivan in Japan last fall; thus far, according
to the company, tests are progressing well. Leaf taxis already operate in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Osaka, Japan, though some Osaka drivers are not happy with the degradation in battery range they have experienced after racking up tens of thousands of miles in a short period.
New York City's taxi fleet now is more diverse than it has been in decades, as hybrids and smaller sedansand minivans from a variety of makers replace the formerly ubiquitous Ford Crown Victoria full-size sedans, which are no longer made.

Recipe of the Month Caesar BLT Pasta Salad
INGREDIENTS
16 oz. mini farfalle (bowties)
1 lb. bacon
1 pint sugar plum tomatoes, sliced
1 c. Gardini‟s Caesar dressing
1 c. sliced black olives
1/2 c. parmesan
DIRECTIONS
Cook the pasta in a large pot of salted water to al dente, then drain. (I cooked mine the night before and tossed it
with the olive oil and lemon juice and marinated it in the refrigerator overnight.) This keeps the pasta from sticking
together. Cut the bacon into bite size pieces and cook in a large skillet until crisp. Drain on paper towels. Discard the
bacon grease; leaving just a tablespoon or so in the skillet. Add the sliced tomatoes and garlic and toss in the skillet
for just a couple of minutes to cook the garlic and soften the tomatoes. Then let sit until cool.
Since the pasta is nice and cold from being refrigerated overnight; just mix in the Caesar dressing, bacon, tomato

Under the Hood Nissan Juke gets CVT, all-wheel-drive
Nissan has added auto-transmission and all-wheel drive variants to its existing four-model fun-'n-funky
Juke crossover range - but, seeing as there is nothing conventional about the Juke, it has done it
differently. To start with, the self-shifter doesn't have any gears at all - it's a belt-drive constantly
variable transmission, while the All-Mode all-wheel drive isn't set up for bundu-bashing but for increased
grip and better steering at highway speeds on, well, highways. Unlike a conventional transmission,
which has a choice of different ratios, any one of which can be engaged to suit the speed of the wheels
relative to the engine revs (hence the term 'gear change' - that is exactly what you're doing) a CVT
transmission has a steel drive belt running between two cone-shaped pulleys facing in opposite
directions.
If you move the belt across the faces of
the pulley, one will increase in size as the
other decreases, seamlessly changing the
ratio between input and output shafts
while keeping the belt at a constant
tension so it doesn't slip - or snap. With a
bit of input from the ECU and yaw
sensors, the transmission can find the
ideal combination of torque and revs for
any circumstances and move to it without
disengaging anything, so you get smooth
power delivery with no „shift shock‟ and, if
you can keep slippage to a minimum, the
potential for impressive fuel-efficiency.
In the Juke, the system measures
gradients and cornering loads as well, and even uses patterns of movement to figure out whether the
car is in city traffic (keep it smooth, sister) or on a fun-to-drive winding mountain pass, where you want
maximum torque every time you power out of a corner. Available only on the 1.6 DIG-T turbo model,
the All-Mode 4x4i system distributes torque between the front and rear
axles, up to a maximum split of 50:50, according to the driving conditions
and vehicle behaviour - including steering input, yaw rate, lateral
acceleration and wheel speed - and also manages power between the two
rear wheels via and electronic limited-slip differential so as to reduce
understeer while cornering.
And to underline the on-road orientation of the set-up, its antics are
displayed in real time with graphics on the instrument panel, just as the
turbo boost gauge lets the driver know exactly what the engine is doing.
The new 1.6 Acenta+ CVT auto adds seamless shifting to the existing entry level model, for more
relaxed driving, while the 140kW/240NM 1.6 Tekna AWD CVT auto model pairs the new transmission
with all-wheel drive for extra grip and better road holding.

The Buzz Customer‟s Kind Words
“We would definitely recommend Porreco Nissan!
Nice variety of vehicles. We were exclusively
interested in the Altima and there were several on
the lot… We looked at Honda Accords, Chevy
Malibus, and Ford Fusions– we just liked the Altima
and our experience at Porreco Nissan better. Our
experience had no pressure– we were well informed
and had a friendly and professional salesman, Henry
Aldrete. He explained everything about the car, the
sale, and financing in a clear manner. He didn‟t
sugar-coat the sale. Totally enjoyed our car buying
experience!”
