Leicester on the London 2012 Olympic Torch Route

Leicester has been chosen as one of the locations the Olympic Torch will visit on its tour of the UK. The city0- is one of only four places in the East Midlands that have been chosen as part of the tour to hold a special evening event – a two-hour long staged show, which culminates in the arrival of the torch. The Flame will make its way to the city on Monday 2 July 2012, wind its way through our streets and finish up at Abbey Park. Leicester is one of 66 places across the UK chosen to hold an evening event, confirmed today by the London 2012 organising committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG). Find out more about the London 2012 Olympic Torch visiting Leicester go to: www.inspireleics.org.uk LOCOG launches search for 8000 inspirational Torchbearers With one year to go until the Olympic Flame arrives in the UK, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today launches the search for 8,000 Torchbearers to carry the Olympic Flame right across the UK with the start of the LOCOG ‘Moment to Shine’ public nomination campaign. The LOCOG ‘Moment to Shine’ public nomination campaign aims to find 2,012 inspirational members of the public who have gone beyond their personal best. There will be further

opportunities to get involved via the Presenting Partner programmes that will launch in June 2011.

ROYAL WEDDING PARTY The Village had a lovely time celebrating the Royal

Wedding. It was a great occasion and had a real sense of community feel about it. We had bunting and

Flags all around the Millennium Green, Church Street and the Village Hall. We hope to do the same again

next year for the Queen’s jubilee as we have had such positive feedback from the Villagers.
