Beware of lock ‘jammers’Lephalale and Mokopane have both seen several cases of theft out of motor vehicles using the remote control method of jamming car locks. Laptops and wallets were stolen out of two vehicles near Castle Corner in Mokopane in the last two weeks after owners insisted that they locked their cars. Another had money stolen from her car in Onverwacht in Lephalale.

Thieves have discovered a very success-ful method of breaking into cars without forced entry, it is called car remote jamming. According to a report in the City Press newspaper, it is an alarming fact that most insurance companies don’t pay out without proof of forced entry.

Remote jamming involves the blocking of car remotes using a household remote. Both car and household remotes operate at a 400 megahertz and criminals prevent the locking action of the car from being activated by pressing down on their remotes as the owners are about to lock their cars.

Vehicle owners should be alert and cautious to where you park your car. Be on the lookout for people who are wandering around and loitering. Do not rush away from your car without double checking that it is indeed locked. Wait for the ‘beep’ of the remote and check that all your doors are indeed locked.

Do not leave Ipads, cellphones, GPS devices, laptops or any other valuable items inside your car for all to see (lock it away in the boot).

Mayor calls for stadium to be renamed2

“It is very sad to loose a selfless leader like Madimetja Piet Pale who stood and campaigned against corruption in the municipality,” Mogalakwena Mayor, Malose Mabuela told mourners at Pale’s memorial service at the Mahwelereng stadium last week.

Pale was an able leader, he was the chairperson of African National Congress Rufus Seakamela Branch, he was a member Mogalakwena ANC sub-region and he was a member of Waterberg District Interim Core of the South African Communist Party.

“It is clear that Pale was assassinated simply because he fought for the rights of Mogalakwena community at large,” said Mabuela.

He encouraged members of the community to come for-ward and share information which might relate to Pale’s mur-der. “We will work tirelessly in making sure that the perpetrators are brought to book,” he said.

Mabuela highlighted the achievements of the Mogalakwena municipality attributing many of its successes to the positive involvement of Pale in municipal affairs. He cited three consecutive unqualified audit opinions and being rated the number one municipality in Limpopo by SALGA for good governance and financial stability as examples.

“To honour Pale it seems fit that Mahwelereng Stadium be renamed after the slain community activist, Madimetja Piet Pale Stadium,” Mabuela concluded.

On Tuesday community members and taxi operators in Mokopane marched from Mahwelereng to Mokopane police station where they presented a memorandum detailing their grievances against a fellow taxi operator and driver who they allege “ignores the code of taxi drivers” and thereby endangers the lives of other drivers and passengers.

The Community Policing Forum joined local SAPS representatives in a Business against Crime initiative to provide some warm clothing and shoes to the learners of the Mmamoronyane Primary School outside Mokopane near Blinkwater. The small school is headed up by Principal M Matlou who expressed his gratitude for the warm gesture. Pictured here are the learners, Matlou and Sgt. Two people were allegedly killed in a head-on collision between a white Volkswagen Polo and a Toyota bakkie on Nelson Mandela Avenue in Lephalale on Monday. The cause of the accident is being investigated. Photo source: Facebook.

Four shoplifters arrestedFour people were arrested on Wednesday for shoplifting items to the value of R5 000 from shops at the Lephalale Square.

Three women and a man were caught concealing the stolen items in handbags lined with foil to avoid setting off the alarms when they left the shops.

Detectives Piet Selokelo and Koos Nkwadi made the arrests and searched the suspects, who had hidden items from Legit, Pick 'n Pay and Truworths.

One of the suspects was carrying a baby.

se liggaam afgekom, hy is vermoedelik opslag dood.

Medupi workers lay charges Allegations of abuse, late payment of sala-ries, miscalculations of hours worked and unfair dismissal were laid against Medupi contractor, Wetback construction, at the Medupi Centre for Dispute Resolution this week.

According to an article in the Business Day, 127 workers claim to have been dis-missed following an allowance dispute that led to the workers downing tools in May. The workers are challenging their dismissal.

The grievance report states that a Wet-

back construction manager became ag-gressive during a meeting with employees. According to Business Day the incident was confirmed by four witnesses and con-struction manager Jose Araujo has admit-ted in a statement that he had behaved as reported.

Northern News spoke to a repre-sentative of Wetback construction, who confirmed that a claim was laid, but said that the matter is sub judice and that she could not comment.

Derde prinses is Chané de Jager (17), 'n leerder by Hoërskool Nylstroom.

Carra-Lee reaches for the starsThe dictionary defines an 'Appren-ticeship' as job training that involves following and studying a master at the trade. For many aspiring models and actresses there is no one better to learn from than well known designer, actress and model - Angelique Gerber.

What started as a search for the face of Angelique Gerber’s clothing range to feature in catalogues and com-mercials became a mentorship program called, “Apprentices of Angelique Gerber 2014” - a nationwide competition in search for the perfect apprentice.

More than 300 young ladies entered the competition with a dream of becoming an apprentice of Angelique.

One hopeful is local beauty Carre-Lee Armstrong from Lephalale. At 16 she is one of the youngest contestants who recently became one of only 70 finalists by successfully going through to the final round.

In the week leading up to the Grand Finale at the Heartfelt Arena on Saturday 19 July, Carra- Lee and the other finalists will join Angelique in painting one of Vuurwarm for Charity’s (Angelique’s favourite charity) schools in Krugersdorp. After the two days of giving back to the community, they will have two full workshop days to find out who they are and how to market themselves. Then it is rehearsals and meeting with the sponsors face to face as well as a full day of judging done by the judges.

BLCK Group has partnered with a lot of sponsors to help and provide tools for the winner to become a star in our local entertainment industry. The winner of “Apprentices of An-gelique Gerber 2014” walks away with prizes to the value of more than R800 000.00.

The Grand Finale promises to be a spectacular event which will be hosted by Angelique Gerber and Philip Moolman. Entertainment for the evening will be supplied by the lovely contestants and artists like Lianie May, Ampie du Preez, Liza Brönner, Chane Valentine, RuanWepener and Valeska Muller.

To support Carre-Lee, visit her facebookpage – Carre-Lee Armstrong or vote for her by sending an SMS with the words AP CarreLee Armsrong to 35069.

Daar was gesigverf, ‘n skoonheidskompetisie (Mej.

Weer te sien by hierdie jaar se Bosveldfees in Lephalale is Suid-Afrika se jongste kon-sertina speler - Kosie Beukes (6).

Successful growth and a demand for an even broader range of services has seen Printmaster in Mokopane move

to larger premises. The shop moved from Retief Street to no. 128 Voor Street (corner Ruiterweg) and will now expand their services to include all printing solutions as well as clothing and embroidering.

Owned by well-known local business women, Maritza Viljoen en Esmé Claassen, Printmaster has been a fixture in town for the past six years.

"We thank God for giving us the opportunity to not only establish our business successfully, but for giving us the means to expand it further," says Maritza.

The business was started in 2008 with only these two business women doing everything from design to binding them-selves with second-hand equipment. Today, Printmaster Mokopane boasts 22 staff members, a fully-functional workshop with state-of-the art machinery and all equip-ment needed for a seamless branding and printing operation.

A new litho-machine has expanded their capacity to offer mass-production of flyers and posters, while a new embroidery ma-chine will allow for the neat branding of lo-go’s on corporate-, safety- and sports wear.

“The new clothing ranges are exciting,” explains Maritza, “we offer top brands including Brutal (rugby), Sevenn (netball), Acelli (soccer) and Black Heath.”

Not only can they order any clothing required, but their ranges include bags, balls and apparatus for most sports.

On the safety side, they offer all cloth-ing, boots and overalls. For corporate wear, clients can make sure employees look sharp with office clothing with embroided logos.

Esmé adds that Printmaster also offers T-shirt printing with not only full colour prints, but also metallic colours.

“Printed T-shirts can be customised for any occasion, from sports days to special events,” she says, adding that a photograph on a T-shirt makes for a lovely gift.

Printmaster offers a full 'paper house service' including all administrative books, letterheads, business cards, menu’s, brochures, booklets, folders, posters, laminating, ect.

Their signage product range includes all chromadeck boards, safety signs, banners, stickers, flags, name tags, digital printing on vinyl, doming, magnetic stickers and even vehicle marketing (including full wrapping of cars).

Branding includes embroidering and full colour hotflex as well as large quantities of silkscreening.

With qualified designers on its staff and the lastest design software, Printmaster can assist with any design to help businesses get that professional look and feel.

"We would really like to thank our loyal clients for their support throughout the years and welcome new clients to give us a call," says Esmé.

Esmé and Maritza also thank their staff members for the hard work and say that having good staff that one can trust is a vital part of their business.

For more information, visit their new premises or call them on 015 491 8730 or email [email protected] for quotes.

Northern News received several photos of what is called processionary cat-erpillars this week. These are the caterpillars of the processionary moth and are very prevalent at the mo-ment because of the higher than normal rainfall we had in the Bushveld.

Whenever it is necessary to transfer to a new tree, the worms will move in proces-sion, head to tail, following a leader and leaving a silk trail as they move.

When pupating they spin a silk envelope over the entire group. In this each larvae spins its own cocoon. You should see a large amount of the result-ing moths over the next few months as the caterpillars pupate and the moths begin to emerge.
