Nuclear Astrophysics MotivationNuclear Astrophysics Motivation

• NNDC is a leading provider of Nuclear Data Web services

• NNDC produces nuclear data, publications and codes

• Why not to apply NNDC nuclear data resources for nuclear astrophysics ?

• Example of 151

Experimental Nuclear Reaction DataExperimental Nuclear Reaction Data

CSISRS, alias EXFOR data library contains experimental nuclear reaction data for incident neutrons, charged particles, and photons.

It includes more than 15500 experiments andcovers nearly all of neutron-induced reaction experimental data up to the pion threshold.

Evaluated Nuclear (reaction) Data File Evaluated Nuclear (reaction) Data File (www.nndc.bnl.gov/endf2)(www.nndc.bnl.gov/endf2)

The latest version of the library ENDF/B-VII beta2contains neutron cross sections for 393 isotopes from 10

-5 eV to 20 MeV:

8 nuclear data standards, 20 thermal scattering, 48 proton, 163 photo-nuclear, 3830 decay and 10 charged-particle files.

The final version of ENDF/B-VII library and a new Web applicationwill be released in 2006.

Nuclear astrophysics s-process calculations require Maxwellian average neutron capture cross sections.

Evaluated neutron capture cross sections for the entire ENDF/B-VII beta2 nuclear data library were processed with ENDF utility code INTER for data points

in 10-5 to 20 MeV energy

range.

Sm(n,Sm(n,))

The calculated Maxwellianaverage capture cross section at 30 keV for 151

Sm(n,) reaction is 3045 mb, which is in excellent agreement with 3031(82) mb and 3100(160) mb measured by Wisshak et al. [6] and Abbondanno et al. [7], respectively.

Atlas of Neutron Resonances IAtlas of Neutron Resonances I

Atlas of Neutron Resonances reference book (www.nndc.bnl.gov/atlas) represents the neutron data for 98 elements and 486 ground and isomeric states of 476 isotopes (381 isotopes with resonance data).

Atlas of neutron Resonances IIAtlas of neutron Resonances II

It includes evaluated (n,) cross sections for 186 isotopes at 30 keV.

Data are shown as a function of neutron number N of s-process nuclei. Cross section values plunge near the neutron closed shells at N = 20,28,50,82, and 126.
