There are many resources to help you track down the owner of a lost pet. Please try a few of these first before abandoning the pet to a shelter or back on the street! A loving owner may be worried sick about their loss – let’s do everything we can to help them reunite with their beloved pet.
On foot/phone: Go to any vet office and have the animal scanned for a microchip - including cats
Check vet offices in the area the pet was found
Post flyers in the area the pet was found – if you are worried about a “fake” owner calling, leave out one important detail (breed, special markings, color of the collar)
On the Web: Craigslist - www.craigslist.org – Lost+found under the Community menu
Houston SPCA - www.houstonspca.org- click on the Lost/Found menu - note that it takes up to 3 days for them to post so keep checking
