Alice was a charter member of the Gary American Legion Auxiliary. He married Judith M. They had two sons: Bobby, James and two daughters Sandy and Tammy. James died in Polk County, MN, on November 18, 1988.

Alice Bertina (Bakke) Dekko Born: May 22, 1901 Died: July 6, 1986 Alice Bertina Bakke was born in Twin Valley, MN, on May 22, 1901, to parents Louis and Helen (Johnson) Bakke. Alice married Bennie Leonard Dekko on August 30, 1925. She was a cafeteria manager and cooked in the Gary Public School for seventeen years. Bennie and Alice had one daughter, Zelda Mae (Spencer) Skretvedt and they raised a niece, Janice Mae Marie Bakke (Clinton) Bendickson. Bennie Leonard Dekko Born: April 25, 1886 Died: February 1, 1981 Bennie Leonard Dekko was born in Gary, MN, on April 25, 1886, to parents Engebert Knudson and Augusta Skinderviken(Vick)Dekko. Bennie served his country as a Private in the United States Army in World War I. Bennie Leonard married Alice Bertina Bakke. To this union one daughter was born, Zelda Mae (Spencer) Skretvedt. They raised a niece, Janice Mae Marie Bakke (Clinton) Bendickson . Bennie had the following siblings: Ed Adolph—Ole—Henry Martin—Melvin (Lula Bakke)—Louis—Belle (George) Olson. Half brothers Knute and Severt and half sisters, Bertha—Caroline—Maria –Christine . Bennie died on February 1, 1981.

Melvin Engebret “Shorty” Dekko Born: November 22, 1891 Died: October 21, 1979 Melvin Engebret “Shorty” Dekko was born in Strand Township, Norman County, MN, on November 22, 1891, to parents Engebret Knudson and Augusta (Skindervicken) Vick Dekko. Melvin Engebret “Shorty” Dekko married “Lula” Louisa Henrietta (Bakke) on March 25, 1925 in Gary, MN. Shorty was a barber and baseball manager for most of his life in Gary, MN. Shorty and Lula had four sons namely: Loren “Toby” Monell (Marilyn) –Thomas “Bunny” Dottie –Gary Melvin (Sonia Veker)—Keith Scott Dekko. Melvin E. (Shorty) Dekko was inducted into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of fame in 1963. Shorty had the following siblings: Ed Adolph—Ole—Henry Martin—Bennie (Alice Bakke)—Louis—Belle (George) Olson. Half brothers Knute and Severt and half sisters, Bertha—Caroline—Maria—and Christine. Shorty died on October 21, 1979. Louise “Lula” Henrietta (Bakke) Dekko Born: September 3, 1903 Died: March 31, 1994 Lousie “Lula” Henriette Bakke was born on her Grandpa Johnson’s farm near Twin Valley, MN, on September 3, 1903, to parents Louis and Helen (Johnson) Bakke. Louisa “Lula” married Melvin E. “Shorty” Dekko on March 3, 1925. To this union four sons were born namely: Loren “Toby” (Marilyn)—Thomas “Bunny” (Dottie)—Gary Melvin (Sonia Veker) and Keith Scott Dekko. Lula owned and operated the Coffee Spot for many years and also cooked at the Gary Public School. Lula had the following siblings: Carol Loy—Alice (Bennie) Dekko—Reuben—Gladys (Kenneth) Edberg—Irene (Harold) Thordal—Kenneth—Garfield—Russell and Stuart (Vangie Halstensgaard) Bakke. Louise “Lula” died at the age of 90 on March 31, 1994.

Oscar Bernard Hemmingson Born: December 23, 1927 Died: June 19, 1977 Oscar Bernard Hemmingson was born in Dahlen, North Dakota, on December 23, 1927, to parent Alfred L. and Bertha Marie (Benson) Hemmingson. Oscar Bernard married Margie Evangeline Ueland. They had the following children: Bruce (Kathy Erickson)(Elva)—Wayne—Muriel (James) Bateson—Stuart. Oscar was a Butter maker—American Crystal Sugar worker and Farmer. Oscar Bernard served his country as a Seaman First Class in the United States Navy. Oscar had one brother, Alfred Junior. Oscar died on June 19, 1977.

Bertha Muriel (Benson) Hemmingson Hanson Born: September 8, 1908 Died: December 1, 1975 Bertha Muriel Benson was born in Dahlen, North Dakota, on September 8, 1908, to parents,Ben P. and Evelina (Carlson) Benson. Bertha married Alfred Hemmingson. They had two sons namely: Oscar and Alfred Jr. Bertha was a housewife and Health Care worker. She married Hans Ole Hanson. Bertha had the following siblings: Roy—Alvin—Lilly—May—Stella—Evelyn and Ester. Bertha died in Cass County, ND, on December 1, 1975. Hans Ole Hanson Born: April 24, 1914 Died: April 4, 1987 Hans Ole Hanson was born in near Gary, Sundal Township, Minnesota, on April 24, 1914, to parents Carl F. and Helga (Erickson) Hanson. Hans was a farmer and worked in Home Construction. Hans Ole Hanson married Bertha Muriel (Benson) Hemmingson. Odella “Della” Myrtle (Bjorge) Gunnufson Born: November 15, 1908 Died: March 11, 1999 Odella “Della” Myrtle Bjorge was born on November 15, 1908, in Gary, MN, to parents Mathias and Olena (Olson) Bjorge who were early pioneers of Waukon Township. Odella was married to Elwin Walter Gunnufson. Odella was known as Della. She was very active in the ladies groups of Gary Lutheran Church. Elwin and Della had one daughter, Sonia Julene (Clinton) Sorenson. Della had the following brothers & sisters: Edwin—George—Wilbert—Frank—Elvira (Arthur) Stephenson—–LeRoy—Amy and Elmer Bjorge. Della died March 11, 1999, in Hawley, MN.

Elwin Walter Gunnufson Born: May 28, 1899 Died: November 17, 1975 Elwin Walter Gunnufson was born in Rochester, Olmsted County, MN, on May 28, 1899, to parents Julius and Thea (Nereson) Gunnufson. Elwin married Odella Myrtle Bjorge. To this union one daughter was born, Sonia Julene (Clinton) Sorenson. They lived in Gary, MN, all their life. Elwin was a co-owner of Gunnufson/Bjorge Construction Company. Elwin drove school bus for the Gary Public School for many years and was a Norman County Commissioner. Arthur Stephenson Born April 12, 1891 Died: January 17, 1969 Arthur Stephenson was born on April 12, 1891, in MN to parents Erick and Augusta (Groberg) Stephenson. His parents were from Sweden. Arthur married Elvira Minnie Bjorge on May 19, 1915.They had one son, Maurice (Marlys Kindseth) and two daughters, Verna Johnson and Arcella (Elmer) Huseby. Arthur worked for the Norman County Highway Department. Arthur had the following brothers and sisters: Louis (Josephine)---Elsie (Clarence) Johnson and Hazel (Reuben) Halvorson. Arthur died in Gary, MN, on January 17, 1969, at the age of 77. (Sunderland) Ramstad. Karen attended the Gary Public School and belonged to the Gary Lutheran Church. Karen had the following brothers and sisters; Darlene (Doug ) Sandstrom —Ann Marie( Bruce) Kindseth—Laurie (Jon) Stein—Robert (Cindy)—James. Karen died in Cass County, ND, on December 14, 1967, of spinal meningitis.

Mary (Nygaard) Weberg Born: December 1, 1894 Died: April 1, 1971 Mary Nygaard was born in Strand Township, Norman County, MN, on December 1, 1894, to parents Rasmus and Birget (Yeldager) Nygaard. She married Knute Weberg on November 3, 1920, in Gary, MN. To this union one daughter was born namely, Margaret Catherine (she died in infancy). She had two step-sons, Clarence Marvin (died in infancy) and Morris Kenneth Weberg (died on January 10, 1937). Mary had the following siblings: Ole—Bella (Lars) Stundahl—Oscar—Andrias (died in infancy)—Robert—Theodore—Inga Berthe--- Pernilla—Anna (Guy) Patterson and Andrew. Mary died in Clay County ND, on April, 1971. Knute Weberg Born: May 14, 1888 Died: April 4, 1969 Knute Weberg was born in Flaa,Hallingdal, Norway, on May 14, 1888. Knute and his first wife (Sigrid Reiersgaard) came to America in 1914. They had two sons: Clarence Marvin (died in infancy) and Morris Kenneth Weberg (died on January 10, 1937).Sirgid died on November 8, 1918, and is buried in Ness Cemetery, Waukon Township, rural Gary, MN. Knute was a painter all his life. He was specially trained from his native country, Norway, to be able to paint wood to look like marble and could also paint ordinary wood without “grain” to look as if it

had a beautiful grain. Examples of his work are still evident in local churches. On November 20, 1920, Knute married Mary Nygaard in Gary, MN, to this union one daughter was born, Margaret Catherine Weberg (died in infancy). Knute Weberg died April 4, 1969.

Baby Boy Hanson Born: August 15, 1969 Died: August 15, 1969 Baby Boy Hanson was born August 15, 1969, the son of Everett Hanson and Joyce Hanson Simonson. Baby Boy Hanson had two sisters, Tanya Billberg and Crystal (Heath) Stene. Baby Boy Hanson died August 15, 1969.

Esther R. (Masche) Hanson Born: December 24, 1905 Died: June 7, 2005 Esther R. Masche was born on December 24, 1905, to parents Carl and Nettie (Balfany) Masche in Lamberton, MN. In 1917 Esther and her family came to Bear Park, MN, where she was raised. Esther R. Masche married Henry O. Hanson in 1929. They farmed in Green Meadow Township, Norman County, MN. Esther and Henry had two daughters, Eveline (Vernon) Anderson (Lloyd Halland ) and Corrine (Herbert) Griewe; two sons, Floyd (Myrtle Pederson) and Everett “Micky” (Laurie) Hanson. Esther died on June 7, 2005.

Virgil L. Anderson Born: May 3, 1961 Died: March 25, 1999 Virgil L Anderson was born in Ada, MN, on May 3, 1961, to parents Vernon and Eveline (Hanson) Anderson. He grew up on a farm near Gary, MN, where he attended School and graduated with the class of 1979. Virgil married Denise Sirjord on July 28, 1979, at the Ness Lutheran Church Gary, MN. They had one daughter Rachel Anderson. Virgil farmed and worked at Gary Ag and Circle C. Virgil had the following siblings: Jill (Mike) Nelson and Cari (Barry) Halland. Virgil was uncle to the following: Ryan—Ross—Amy—April Halland and Ashley—Kyle—Brock Nelson. Virgil L. Anderson died in Gary, MN, on March 25, 1999.

Lloyd Harold Halland Born: February 22, 1932 Died: November 25, 2005 Lloyd Harold Halland was born on February 22, 1932, near Gary, MN, to Adolph and Gina (Ramberg) Halland. He entered the United States Army on June 16, 1954, and served his country as a truck driver in Korea until his discharge May 16, 1956. Lloyd worked on the farm with his father and brothers. Lloyd had a special affection and relationship with children through his life. He was a member of the Ness Lutheran Church and the Gary Post #505 of the American Legion. Lloyd’s special friend was Eveline Anderson. He had the following siblings: Phillip (Gloria)--- Ardelle (Burton) Thronson—Lester (Darlene)---Stanley (Jeanette )----Millard (Jean)---Dennis (Diane)---Bernice (Harold) McCollum and Doris (Al) Jaeger. Lloyd died in Fargo, ND on Friday, November 25, 2005.

Dorothy Lucille (Eichler) Coplin Born: August 16, 1924 Died: March 4, 2007 Dorothy Lucille Eichler was born August 16, 1924, the daughter of Otto and Mathilda (Larson) Eichler. She was baptized and confirmed in Gary Lutheran church where she was a life-long member. Dorothy graduated from Gary High School in 1942. She attended Concordia College and graduated from UND with a Masters Degree in Marketing. In 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Frank Michael Coplin. He was a bush pilot in Alaska. They had a baby girl, Gail Linda (Jay) Coplin while living in Nome, Alaska. She taught at Hitterdal for a short time and she taught business at Pacific High School in San Bernardino, CA. She then became a real estate broker in San Bernardino, CA. Her star in the sky was her grandson, Jordan Jay Coplin. She had an incredible capacity for joy and friendship. Dorothy had one sister Marguerite Olive (Melvin) Servine. Dorothy died on March 4, 2007, in Gary, MN.

Harvey Verdell Werpy Born: October 23, 1941 Died: 1968 Lowell Verdell Werpy was born on October 23, 1941, in Crookston, Polk County, MN,to parents Guy Arthur and Vera M. (Sannes) Werpy. He attended the Gary Public School, Gary, MN. Harvey had the following siblings: Shirley (Boyd Underdahl) Kappes—Joan Lucille Georgeson---Lowell (Bea) and Gene (Bonnie Griewe) Werpy. Harvey was killed in a hunting accident in Montana in 1968.

Guy Arthur Werpy Born: November 1, 1907 Died: March 9, 1983 Guy Arthur Werpy was born in Lyon County, MN, on November 1, 1907, to parents Albert H. and Louise E. (Loken) Werpy. Guy Arthur married Vera Sannes on February 28, 1938. To this union five children were born, three sons and two daughters: Shirley (Boyd Underdahl) (Kenneth) Kappes—Joan Lucille (Ed) Georgeson—Harvey—Lowell (Bea) and Gene (Bonnie Griewe) Werpy . Guy died on March 9, 1983, in Norman County, MN. Vera M. (Sannes) Werpy Born: July 5, 1916 Died: December 31, 2006 Vera M. Sannes was born on a farm north of Gary, MN, the daughter of Ludvig and Sophie (Peterson) Sannes on July 5, 1916. She had a twin brother, Harry. Vera M. married Guy Arthur Werpy on February 28, 1938. They had the following children: Shirley (Boyd Underdahl) (Kenneth) Kappes—Joan Lucille(Ed) Georgeson—Harvey—Lowell (Bea) and Gene (Bonnie Griewe) Werpy.Vera worked at the Gary Public School for 17 years. Vera was a great baker. Vera had the following siblings: Dora (Loren) Olson—Ray (Bernice)-- Kenneth (Shirley) ---Harry(Alma)---Norman (Joyce)—Cyrus (Alida)—Lawrence—Arthur (Norma)—Charlotte Lewis and Garnet (Clarence) Kappes. Vera died on December 31, 2006, in the Bridges Hospital Ada, MN.

Gilman Hartvik Gilbertson Born: September 30, 1904 Died: January 7, 1972 Gilman Hartvik Gilbertson was born the son of Ole and Kari (Helgeson- Reiersgaard) Gilbertson on September 30, 1904, in Gary, Norman County, MN. He was baptized, attended Sunday School and was confirmed in Gary Lutheran church where he was a life-long member. Gilman served his country as a Minnesota Private in the United States Army in World War II. On November 3, 1948, Gilman married Gladyce ( Mjelde—Veker ) in Janesville, Wisconsin. Gilman worked at the Gary Public School for nineteen years as custodian. On January 25, 1950, they had a son David (Deannie ) Gilbertson. Gladyce had two daughters, Sonia (Gary)Dekko and Audrey (Berdean) Felske. Gilman had the following siblings: Gina (James) Lison—Olga (Glen) Sweet—Myrtle (Ray “Sam”) Hamre—Nora McSpadden—Agnes (Walter) Yahn—Thea (Sidney) Anderson—Clara (Walter) Richter—Esther (Jesse) Mead and Otto Gilbertson. Gilman died in Gary, MN, while burning trash outside at the Gary School of a heart attack on January 7, 1972.

Gladyce Adeline (Mjelde) Veker Gilbertson Born: January 19, 1912 Died: October 31, 2005 Gladyce Adeline Mjelde was born in Grygla, MN, on January 19, 1912, the daughter of Andrew & Ella (Christianson) Mjelde. In 1932, Gladyce married Melvin Clifford Veker. To this union two daughters were born namely: Sonia Marilyn (Gary Melvin) Dekko and Audrey Karen (Berdean Raymond) Felske. Melvin died in 1943. In 1944 Gladyce moved to Portland, Oregon, where she was employed as a welder during World War II. Gladyce married Gilman Gilbertson on November 3, 1948, and in 1950 they had a son David (Deannie) Gilbertson. Gladyce cooked at the Gary Public School for twenty-five years. Gladyce was a member of the Gary Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary #505. Gladyce had on sister Alda (Orin) Refling. Gladyce died in Twin Valley, MN, on October 31, 2005.

Frank Leonard Miller Born: February 13, 1918 Died: February 7, 1981 Frank Leonard Miller was born in Spencer, Boyd County, Nebraska, the son of Joseph W. and Edith H. Miller on February 13, 1918. Frank Leonard married Ella Elizabeth Tow on September 28, 1940. They had the following children: Clark—Errol “Buz” (Deb)---Diana (Winfred “Punk”) Bauer. Frank was a farmer and drove School bus for the Gary Public School for many years. Frank and Ella owned and operated a Hartz grocery store (Millers Market) in Gary, MN. He had the following siblings: John—Warren W.—Mae M. Keller—Helen B. and Theodore. Frank died in Norman County, MN, on February 7, 1981.

Ella Elizabeth (Tow) Miller Born: December 17, 1920 Died: October 18, 2006 Ella Elizabeth Tow was born the daughter of Andrew and Ethel (Kuderling) Tow in Woodworth, ND, on December 17, 1920. She attended Gary High School and graduated with the class of 1939, while living with her aunt and uncle, Irv and Gena Kuderling. Ella Elizabeth and Frank Leonard Miller were married on September 28, 1940. They had three children; Clark--- Diana (Winfred “Punk”) Bauer---Errol “Buz” (Deb) Miller. Frank and Ella farmed and owned and operating a Hartz grocery store (Miller’s Market) in Gary, MN. Ella was a member of the Gary Lutheran Church. Ella had one brother Lawrence. Ella enjoyed life. She died in Ada, MN, on October 18, 2006.

John Andrew Smit Born: October 28, 1921 Died: April 14, 1986 John Andrew Smit was born in South Dakota on October 28, 1921, to Pete O. (Peter was born in Holland) and Tillie Smit. John married Lorene Josephine Bergerson on September 21, 1947, in Kingsbury, South Dakota. He served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army during World War II. Willard A. Bergerson Born: November 8, 1918 Died: October 2, 2000 Willard A. Bergerson , the son of Peter and Emma (Paulson) Bergerson ,was born on November 8, 1918, in Arlington, South Dakota. Willard never married. He came to Gary, MN, in 1972 with his sister, Lorene (John) Smit. He worked at the Gary Cashway Lumber Company. He was an over- the- road truck driver. Larry was married to Jan Gerding. Larry had two brothers, Jerry and Jim Smit. Larry died on November 23, 2010, in Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND, at the age of fifty-eight.

Debora Ann Haberstroh Born: January 31, 1959 Died: February 25, 2011 Debora Ann Haberstroh, the daughter of Carl and Doris (Guedesse) Haberstroh, was born on January 31, 1959, in Rolla, ND. She spent her childhood in Rock Lake, ND, and graduated as an Honor Student from Rock Lake School in 1977. She was employed by Tri-Line performing dispatch and bookkeeping duties. While there she met Darrin Pinske and they shared their life together for 16 years. She loved gardening. Debora had two sister Rose (Darrel) Manning and Brenda (Darrel) Siewert and one brother Richard (Kay) Haberstoch. Debora died on February 25, 2011, at the age of fifty-two.

Myrtle Leona (Pederson) Hanson Born: January 21, 1941 Died: October 19, 2004 Myrtle Leona Pederson was born on January 21, 1941, to Bennie and Fern (Hoffman) Pederson in Mahnomen, MN. Myrtle graduated from Mahnomen High School and Bemidji State University with a Elementary Teaching Degree. She taught at Mahnomen for a time. Myrtle Leona Pederson married Floyd Hanson on June 27, 1964. They were blessed with two sons, Corey (Julie) and Craig (Jodi) Hanson. Myrtle taught second Grade at the Gary/Norman County East School for 40 years. They had two grandchildren, Katie and Cole. Inez Luverne (Flaa) Thordal Born: November 13, 1918 Died: February 18, 2007 Inez Luverne Flaa was born November 13, 1918, the daughter of Paul and Pauline (Lystne) Flaa in Gary, MN. Inez was baptized and confirmed in the St. Pauli Lutheran Church and attended Gary Public School graduating from Crookston Agricultural College. Inez was a beautician. She married Mandez B. Inez was a lifetime member of the Gary Lutheran Church. Inez had many talents, cooking, baking and hardanger. Gordon LeRoy Nelson Born: January 26, 1935 Died: January 12, 2010 Gordon LeRoy Nelson was born January 26, 1935, the son of Nels and Josie (Amundson) Nelson in Sundal Township, near Gary, MN. He attended country school and graduated from Fertile High School. Gordon enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean Conflict. On September 27, 1958, Gordon was united in marriage to Maureen Anderson in Mentor, MN. To this union 6 children were born, 2 sons, Michael (Jill Anderson) ---Paul -----4 daughters, Pam (Brian) Matzke—Laurie (Mike) Sather—Jana (Earl) Pederson and Darci Nelson. He was a charter member of the Gary Lions Club and a member of the Gary Lutheran Church. He was president and CEO of the Gary State Bank. Thomas Milton Anderson Born: June 17, 1909 Died: October 9, 1970 Thomas Milton Anderson was born the son of Albert Ingevald and Mathilda (Trehus) Anderson on June 17, 1909, at Wild Rice, Cass County, ND. Thomas Anderson married Grace Francis Brumwell on July 13, 1928, in Fargo, ND. Tommy and Grace had two daughters, Jeannie (Francis) Flaa and Joy (Philip) Thompson. Tommy and Grace moved to Gary, MN, where they owned a grocery store (Tommy’s Fairway) for many years. Tommy had the following siblings: Melvin C.—Alice (Walter) Reuteler—Arthur N.—Bennie C.—Ruth (Arthur) Hegle –Edwin C.and Grant W. Anderson. Tommy was very active in the Gary Lutheran Church, Gary Fire Department and Gary Community Club. Tommy died at the age 61 on October 9, 1970. Grace Francis (Brumwell) Anderson Born: September 7, 1907 Died: November 23, 2002 Grace Francis was born the daughter of William Henry and Catherine (Dobie) Brumwell on September 7, 1907, in Raymond, Pacific County, Washington. Grace Francis married Thomas

Milton Anderson on July 13, 1928, in Fargo, ND. They had two daughters, Jeannie (Francis) Flaa and Joy (Philip) Thompson. Grace worked at Tommy’s Fairway alongside her husband, Tommy. Grace was very active in the Ladies groups of the Gary Lutheran Church. Grace had two sisters, Isabel Nelson and Floy Higgens. Grace died in Grand Forks, ND, on November 23, 2002.

Ronald Duane Askelson Born October 31, 1946 Died: March 19, 1971 Ronald Duane Askelson was born the son of Junior and Ovedia Gladys (Skeim) Askelson in Twin Valley, MN, on October 31, 1946. He attended and graduated from Gary Public School with the Class of 1965. Ronald served his country in the United States Army USAR Control Group, November 20, 1967 ---November 19, 1969. He was a Vietnam Veteran. Ronald was an Auto mechanic. Ronald had one brother, Curtis (Beverly)—2 sisters, DeVaughn (Rodney) Hanson and Joyce (LeRoy) Bestul. Ronald Duane died in a car accident in Moorhead, MN, on March 19, 1971.

Ovedia Gladys (Skeim) Askelson Born: May 11, 1917 Died: May 30, 1995 Ovedia Gladys Skeim was born May 11, 1917, to Martin and Theoline (Berg) Skeim at Ulen, MN, where she grew up. On May 19, 1940, Ovedia and Junior Askelson were married at Hitterdal, MN. To this union four children were born, Curtis (Beverly)—DeVaughn (Rodney) Hanson—Joyce (LeRoy) Bestul and Ronald Duane Askelson. They came to Gary, MN, in 1956. She was a member of the Gary Lutheran church and American Legion Auxiliary. Ovedia had one brother, Arnold Skeim. Ovedia died on May 30, 1995, at the United Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Junior Askelson Born: January 26, 1921 Died: June 30, 1998 Junior Askelson was born to parents Austin Thor and Nina Christine (Larson) Askelson on January 26, 1921, at Felton, Clay County, MN. Junior married Ovedia Gladys Skeim on May 19, 1940, in Hitterdal, Clay County, MN. They had the following children: Curtis (Beverly)—DeVaughn (Rodney) Hanson—Joyce (LeRoy) Bestul and Ronald Askelson. Arthur married Hilma Christine Dahl. Arthur farmed southwest of Gary, MN. She attended country school and graduated from Ada High School. Alice married Lloyd Larson in 1941.They had one daughter Judy. Alice was a teacher for a time, both in country school and at the Gary Public School. She became a certified nurse’s assistant and worked in Fergus Fall and the Ada Nursing Home. Alice Mary married George Schenkey in 1975 and they lived in Beltrami, MN. Alice had the following siblings: Ray Turner and two brothers that preceded her in death and one sister, Erna Langseth. Alice Mary Schenkey died on June 16, 2012, at the age of 92.

Myrtle Esther (Huseby) Hellerud Born: May 19, 1914 Died: July 14, 2006 Myrtle Esther Huseby was born to George and Minnie (Ness) Huseby on the family farm, rural Perley, MN, on May 19, 1914. In 1932 Myrtle was united in marriage to Henry Hellerud. They were blessed with one daughter, Doris. In 1950 Myrtle was joined in marriage to Clarence Trimborn and to this union two daughters were born: Joyce (Lyle) Simonson and Linda (Terry) Haaven . Myrtle worked as a nurse’s aide for many years. Myrtle entered the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile MN, in 2004. She had the following siblings: three sisters namely; Judith (Dale) Wood ---Helen Anderson and Lily Strum and three brothers, Fred—Glenn and Leland Huseby. Myrtle died in Fertile, MN, on Friday, July 14, 2006.

Shelly Ann (Engen) Olson Born: August 25, 1973 Died: December 16, 2000 Shelly Ann Engen was born the daughter of Leonard Oscar and Linda Kay (Aanenson) Engen in Ada, MN, on August 25, 1973. Shelly attended and graduated from the Gary High School, Gary, MN, with the Class of 1992. Shelly Ann Engen married Kevin Robert Olson at Gary, MN. They were blessed with two sons; Tanner Kevin and Carter Leonard Olson. Shelly was a cosmetologist in Ada, MN. Shelly Ann had the following siblings: Kim (Roger) Knutson---Stacy (Ray) Gunderson and Kelly (Kristi Larson) Engen. Shelly died in Fargo, Cass County, ND, on December 16, 2000, from a blood clot after childbirth.

Norman Clifford Jacobson Born: November 23, 1910 Died: September 5, 1986 Norman Clifford Jacobson was born in Hendrum, MN, to Christian and Gustava Jacobson on November 23, 1910. Norman attended country school in the Gary area. Norman Jacobson married Mildred Sivertson on November 13, 1954, at the Gary parsonage. To this union two sons were born, baby boy (died in infancy) and Byron Jacobson. Norman worked at the Hadler Elevator and Gary Elevator for many years. Norman was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and decorated four times with medals of Honor for bravery in service to his country. Norman had the following siblings; Gilman---Cyrus ---Cora (Ellert) Welley and Agnes (David) Stene. Norman died on September 5, 1986, in Crookston, Polk County, MN.

Mildred “Milly” Regina (Sivertson) Jacobson Born: February 14, 1913 Died: November 19, 2009 Mildred “Millie”Regina Sivertson, the daughter Ben and Cora (Natwick) Sivertson, was born February 14, 1913, in Bemidji, MN. They moved to Leonard, ND, where she attended school. On November 13, 1954, she was united in marriage to Norman Clifford Jacobson at the Gary Lutheran parsonage. To this union two sons were born; baby boy Jacobson (died in infancy) and Byron Jacobson. Millie cooked at the Gary school for many years. Millie was very active in the Gary Lutheran Church women’s groups. She was a proud member of the Gary Legion Auxiliary. Mildred had one brother and two sisters, Doris (Arnfred) Gronbeck . Millie died in the Twin Valley Living Center on November 19, 2009, at the age of ninety-six.

Robert Allan Lee Born: November 9, 1978 Died: January 20, 2000 Robert Allan Lee, the son of Dean and Violet (Tunks) Lee, was born on November 9, 1978, at Ada, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Gary Lutheran Church in Gary,MN, where he grew up and attended school. Rob graduated as an honor student from Norman County East High School in Twin Valley, MN in 1997. He was on the Norman county East football and basketball squads. He was attending the University of Minnesota at the time of his death. Rob had the following siblings; Roger (Dawn Hagy)---- Brenda (Kevin) Rude and Angie (Mark) Dueck. Robert died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Barnesville, MN, on January 20, 2000.

Delna (Thompson) Tuven Born: June 23, 1905 Died: January 25, 2000 Delna Thompson was born on June 23, 1905, at Dalton, MN, to parents, Tostem and Jessie (Sand) Thompson. She was raised in the Dalton and St. Olaf communities. On October 19, 1929, she was united in marriage to Arne Tuven at Dalton, MN. In 1956 they moved to a farm in Strand Township, Norman County, Gary, MN. To this union two sons were born namely, Dale (Luvina Crane Narum) and Norman. Delna had the following siblings: Myrtle---Gladys and Guy. She moved into the Lutheran Memorial Retirement Center, Twin Valley, MN, in 1996 where she died on January 25, 2000 Arne Tuven Born: June 11, 1901 Died: August 9, 1983 Arne Tuven was born in Vefsen, Nordlund County, Norway on June 11, 1901, to parents Divin Olsen and Mosjean Tuven. He came to the United States of America on May 2, 1921, at the age of 19 on the ship, Bergensfjord, departing in Kristiania, Oslo, Norway. On October 19, 1929, he married Delna Thompson in Dalton, MN. They farmed in Strand Township, Norman County, Gary, MN until 1983. Arne and Delna had two sons, Dale (Lavina Crane Narum) and Norman Tuven. Arne had three brothers; Oddmud—Pete and Tom and three sisters, Malfrid Borfbik and two sisters preceded Arne in death. Arne died in Twin Valley, MN, on August 9, 1983, at the age of eighty-two.

Hilda Marie Narum Born: February 7, 1891 Died: December 6, 1980 Hilda Marie was born the daughter of Hans and Mary Bertha (Peterson) Narum on February 7, 1891’ in Green Meadow Township, Norman County, MN. She attended Parker Country School. Hilda was a seamstress and housekeeper. She never married. Hilda had two brothers, Henry and one brother (died in infancy) and Clara Gjerstad. She had two nieces, Charlotte (Gjerstad) Holmlund and Carol (Gjerstad) Kabanuk. Hilda died on December 6, 1980.

Henry H. Narum Born: August 10, 1887 Died: July 4, 1979 Henry H. Narum was born on August 10, 1887, in Green Meadow Township, Norman County, MN, to parents, Hans and Mary Bertha (Peterson) Narum. On November 8, 1939, Henry married Luvina A. Crane in Twin Valley, MN. They farmed in Norman County, MN. Jennet (Johnson) Usgaard Born: March 6, 1913 Died: October 15, 2005 Jennet Johnson was born the daughter of Oliver and Julia (Arlien) Johnson on March 6, 1913, in McHenry, ND. Jennet married Henry E. Usgaard on May 27, 1933. To this union four sons were born namely, Lyle O.(Jan)---Jerome Keith---Gerald H. (Barb) and Dennis Allan Usgaard. Jennet was a very good cook. She had the following siblings: 4 brothers, Martin---Ole---Alvin and Gadre and three sisters, Luella---Inga Bolken and Edna Odegard. Marvin grew up and attended school in Soldiers Grove, WI. Marvin married Lillian Elizabeth (Stenson) Schilling on September 23, 1983; they lived in Moorhead, MN. Marvin was a musician and Interior Decorator. Marvin had the following siblings, Charles—Elbert—George and Gordon. Marvin died on July 13, 1987, in Clay County, MN, at the age of seventy-eight.

Sara “Sally” A. (Stenson) Mott Wendt Born: June 15, 1903 Died: January 13, 1999 Sara “Sally” A. Stenson was born the daughter of Olai N. and Anna (Heimark) Stenson on June 15, 1903, near Montevideo, MN. Sally was a home economics teacher. She also worked for the California Agricultural Extension Service. She married Lloyd Mott in 1935. Lloyd was a doctor. Sara (Stenson) Mott married William Theodore Wendt in 1947. Sally had the following siblings; Minnie (M.F.) Hanson---John—Edward (Esther Halvorson)—Margaret Hanson- --Lillian Elizabeth (Robert) Schilling (Marvin F.) Ward and Sheridan (died in infancy). Alfield Dagmar (Saker) Lawrence Anderson Born: June 2, 1907 Died: January 23, 1986 Dagmar Alfied Saker was born the daughter of August “Gust” and Mathilda Kristina (Andersson) Saker on June 2, 1907, in the Railroad Section house, Gary, Strand Township, Norman County, MN. She was baptized at St. Pauli Lutheran Church, Gary, MN, and confirmed in 1921 at Gary (Synod) Lutheran

Church. She attended school in Gary district 59 until 1926. Dagmar moved to Fargo, ND, where she was a St. Luke’s Hospital Diet Kitchen Worker. Dagmar married Sidney A. Lawrence. They had one daughter Carol Joy (Roger) Andersen and one son Donald August (Violet Myers)Lawrence. She married Alvin Arthur Anderson in 1942. They had one son Alden Alvin Anderson. She was a talented fudge maker and baker. She was the news correspondent for the Norman County Index. He was a member of Gary Lutheran church where he served in various capacities and served as sextant/treasurer of the Gary Lutheran Cemetery. Alvin Arthur married Alfield Dagmar (Saker) Lawrence. They had one son Alden Alvin Anderson. In 1969 Alvin and Dagmar moved to Gary and Alvin worked for the City of Gary as a handiman. Dagmar had two children; Carol Joy (Roger) Andersen and Donald August (Violet Myers) Lawrence. Alvin was a farmer and Employee of Gunnufson and Bjorge Excavation. He had one brother Sophus George Anderson. Alvin Arthur Anderson died at the St. Luke’s Hospital, Cass County, ND, on March 25, 1977.

Gordon Melvin Albert Dobberstein was born the son of August and Ella (Jarcho) Dobberstein on November 28, 1927, in Boon Lake Township, Renville County, MN. He graduated from Stewart, MN, High School in 1945. Gordon served his country in the United States Army spending one year in Korea. Gordon Dobberstein married June Proehl on June 15, 1951, in Stewart, MN. They have five children namely, Kay June (Jeff) Dahlberg---Mary Jo (Tom) Messelt---Nancy Lynn (Doug) Rensvold—Susan Marie (Tom) Muehlberger and Scott Gordon (Insaf Barkatallah) Dobberstein. Gordon taught and was Principal and School Superindent in the Gary Public School for 44 years. He was a member of the Gary Lutheran Church (held various offices)—Lions Club ----Gary American Legion #505 and executive secretary of the MN State High School League’s Region Eight. Gordon had the following siblings; Herbert—Lida (Martin) Prieve-----Wallace and Jeanette Roberts. Gordon suffered a heart attack October 1 and subsequently died October 4, 1996, at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Donald Randolph Carlson Born: March 17, 1920 Died: July 13, 2003 Donald Randolph Carlson was born on March 17, 1920, to parents Andrew Alfred and Elle (Nordine) Carlson in Kennedy, MN. He attended the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN, and graduated in 1939. Donald Randolph Carlson married Bernice Francis Sperling on May 5, 1946, in Warren, MN. Don worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 37 years. Donald and Bernice had three children, two sons, Jack, Stephen D. Carlson and one daughter, Cammy Sue (Neil) Oakland. He joined the Zion Lutheran Church in Glendive, MT. Donald had Parkinson’s disease and arthritis. He had the following siblings: Clarence (Velma) – Clifford (Lek)—Franklin (Marlys)----Helaine Ingman---Phyllis and Barbara Carlson. Donald passed away on July 13, 2003, at the Glendive Medical Center in Glendive,MT.

Bernice (Sperling) Carlson Born: March 28, 1919 Died: August 26, 1991 Bernice Sperling was born the daughter of Frank and Amelia (Kuball) Sperling on March 28, 1919, in Dresden, ND. She attended public school in Dresden and Inskter, ND, before graduating from Langdon High School. Bernice taught in various communities in MN and ND. Bernice Sperling married Donald Randolph Carlson at Warren, MN, on May 5, 1946. Bernice was a bookkeeper at McGarry’s Printing and Crookston Recap. She also worked many years for the Polk County Bookmobile. Donald and Bernice had three children, Jack—Stephen and Cammy (Neil) Oakland. Bernice had one sister, Virginia Sylvia (Gerald) Ambuehl. Joe married Audrey Lillian Crane on September 11, 1964, at Gary, MN. They lived in Bejou, MN. Robert Gillespie Born: October 27, 1941 Died: August 26, 2006 Robert “Bob” Gillsepie was born October 27, 1941, in Chicago, Illinios, the son of Joseph and Mary (Cahill) Gillespie. He was raised and attended school in the southern suburbs of Chicago by his mother and stepfather Frank E. Jobin. He was employed by T.W.A. Airlines as a ground mechanic. Over the years at T.W.A. he worked in Chicago O’Hare and also Saudi Arabia. In December 1967, he married Harvena (Sue) Davis in Chicago and made their home in Waucanda, Illinios, before moving to Saudi Arabia in 1974. They had two daughters Vicky (Kevin) Reynolds and Rebecca (James) Farrar. He had one stepdaughter, Trudy (Lyle) Beardmore and one stepson Timothy McCann. He was a history buff. He was a member of the Gary Lions Club. Robert had one sister Joan Rispoli and one brother. Robert passed away on August 26, 2006, in the Merit Care Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND.

George James Boe Born: June 6, 1962 Died: September 2, 2010 George James Boe was born in Ada, MN, on June 6, 1962, the son of Harold A. and Beverly (Mortenson) Boe. Joanne “Joey” Marcia (LaFriniere) Simonson Born: April 19, 1945 Died: April 12, 2012 Joanne “Joey” Marcia LaFriniere, daughter of Theodore and Lillian (Enmerk) LaFriniere, was born on April 19, 1945, in Mahnomen, MN. She grew up and attended school in Mahnomen, MN. On November 20, 1992, Joey was united in marriage to Larry Simonson. Joey worked at various places the last being Pinehurst Resort, near Naytahwaush, MN until her cancer diagnosis prevented her from working. Joey had six step children namely: Terry---David—Kerry Ann Kenny—Karen Fladung---Nicole and Wanda Leinen. She had the following siblings: Muriel (Virgil) Mercil---Lois Larson---Audrey (Dick) LaVoy—Sharon (Sydney) Bonaime and Jim and Michael and Phyllis. Debbie died as a result of an automobile accident, rural Erskine, MN, on June 13, 2007.
