About the ArrangerScott Smith has been involved in choral music for over 20 years. He started his formal training while attending Whitney M. Young High School and continued performing while pursuing a B.S. in Marketing at the University of Illinois at Chicago. While in college, Scott was an active member of the UIC Chamber and Concert Choirs. Over the years Scott has performed in a variety of oratorio, theatre and solo engagements for many different ensembles including the Augustana college Oratorio Society, Quad City Music Guild, Michael ONeil Singers, and Gwinnett Festival Singers and the Summer Singers of Atlanta. Scott is currently a member of the William Baker Festival singers of Atlanta and serves as choral assistant for both the Festival Singers and the Summer Singers. When not singing, Scott is employed as a consultant with IBM, raises orchids and basset hounds in his Atlanta home.

Historical Background Of

Nobody Knows De Trouble I See While reading through the songs in the collection of spirituals by James Weldon and J. Rosamond Johnson, the arranger came across the song Nobody Knows de Trouble I See with a notation this is a rare version. Intrigued, Mr. Smith sang through the song a few times and thought that this should be set for choir. And so this arrangement was born.

This song reflects on the impact and importance that the song Nobody Knows has on the spirit. It begins with the solo plea, Master (Jesus) will you pray for me and concludes with the joyful acknowledgement of I heard when you prayed for me, you helped me to drive ol Satan away.
