ENVIRONMENTAL NOISE MONITORING REPORT

1.0 OBJECTIVE

The objective of this monitoring is

1.1 To measure noise exposure level from air compressor and welder generator at Jalan 6 Depot.

1.2 To enforce the use of hearing protection devices for workers who are working near to or air

compressor or engine driven with in order to prevent them from hearing loss.

2.0 BACKGROUND

2.1 As stated in Section 9, Factories and Machineries (Noise Exposure) Regulations,

the noise monitoring should be carried out according to Department Occupational Safety and

Health Requirement.

2.2 Therefore, noise monitoring has been conducted at Jalan 6 Depot on 21 June 2012.

2.3 The monitoring has covered all possible noise source (Machines), and Area (Working Sections).

2.4 Monitoring was conducted at two high noise level areas which are air compressor and welder

generator.

3.0 LEGAL REQUIREMENT

According to the Factories and Machinery (Noise Exposure) Regulations 1989, states that

3.1 No employee shall be exposed to noise level exceeding equivalent continuous sound level of 90

dB (A) or exceeding the limits specified in the First Schedule or exceeding the daily noise dose

of unity.

3.2 Where an initial workers exposure monitoring shows the possibility of any workers exposure to

noise level at or above the action level, the employer shall provide approved hearing protection

devices to their exposed workers.

3.3 Warning signs shall be posted at defined work areas in which workers may be exposed at or

above the limits.

3.4 The warning signs shall clearly indicate that the area is a high noise area and that hearing

protection devices shall be worn.

3.5 Any person who contravenes any provision of these Regulations shall be guilty of an offence

and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding one thousand ringgit.

5.0 RECOMMENDATION

Based on Factories and Machinery (Noise Exposure) Regulations 1989, Regulation 15, the employer

shall reduce and maintain employee exposure to noise level below the limits by -

(a) Personal protective equipment (PPE)

Provide an approved hearing protection device (i.e., earplugs, earmuffs) to, and ensure its use

by an employee exposed to noise level at or above the limits

Earplugs can reduce the noise by 15 to 30 dB.

Below are the example of earplug with cord

(b) Place noise warning sign at noise source area (air compressor and engine driven generator noise).
