Hedberg Public Library will be a distribution site for the major tax forms for individuals: 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ and related schedules and instructions for Federal (IRS) taxes; 1, 1A, WI-Z, and Homestead Credit for Wisconsin taxes. Forms will be distributed in mid-January. It’s been about twenty years since the forms have been available at the library. Mary Buelow, Head of Adult and Reference Services, said there were many reasons the library discontinued offering them. “At the time, the distribution process had many problems,” said Buelow. “Libraries didn’t regularly receive the forms they ordered, and oſten didn’t get the quantities that were necessary. At the same time, there were many other places in Janesville where people could obtain their forms.” Since then, the number of distribution sites in Rock County has dwindled and the IRS has resolved many of its problems. “Every year we have repeated requests to bring back the tax forms,” said Buelow. “We’re happy to offer this service again, as it is clearly valued by the community.” There are some specialized forms that the library won’t carry, but staff is available to help patrons print those forms off the Internet for just 15 cents a page.
