¿Cómo se dice?

“none” or “not one” Must agree in genderIs usually used in the singular

form. When placed before nouns, it

agrees in gender.

ningún, ninguna

~ Ninguna de las computadoras funciona.

~Ningún estudiante terminó la tarea anoche.

~ ¡Ninguna chica bailó con Elliot en el baile!

When there is no noun directly after “ningún or ninguna”, then you can use the word “ninguno”.

Example:• ¿Cuántos exámenes tienes hoy?• Ninguno.

•Nunca = never•Nada = nothing•Nadie = nobody, not anybody

*Can go either before or after the verb.

*If they are placed AFTER the verb, you must place “NO” before the verb also (double negative).

Nunca / Nada / Nadie

• Nunca voy a la playa. • No voy a la playa nunca.

• No quiero hacer nada. • Nada es interesante. • Nada es fácil. • No conozco a nadie. • Nadie de la clase tiene la tarea.

3) None (not one) of the teachers is nice!

4) Kenney didn’t do any (not one) of the homework assignments last night.

Pero / Sino / Sino Que

• Used to join two ideas when the first does not negate the second.

• Used when the second part adds on to the first part.

• Often means: “however”

“Pero”

~No soy español, pero hablo muy bien el idioma.

~Hace frío, pero también hace sol.

~Hacer ejercicio no es divertido, pero es necesario para tener un cuerpo sano.

Generally used in negative contexts, when the second part of the sentence negates or contrasts the first part of the sentence:

= “but rather”

or

“on the contrary”

Sino

~Hoy no voy a estudiar APUSH sino español.

~No voy a comer una ensalada, sino una hamburguesa.

•When “sino” seperates two conjugated verbs, you MUST use “sino que”:

• No voy a hacer ejercicio esta noche, sino que voy al cine.

• No fui al partido, sino que me quedé en casa y estudié español.

• No viajamos por coche, sino que viajamos por tren.

1) I like to play soccer but I don’t like to play tennis. Me gusta jugar al fútbol, pero no me gusta jugar al tenis.

2)I don´t like to play tennis but rather soccer. No me gusta jugar al tenis sino el fútbol.

3) I don´t play tennis but rather I play soccer. No juego al tenis sino que juego al fútbol.

4) We are not going to the concert today but rather tomorrow.

No vamos al concierto hoy sino mañana.
