l Reconnaissance exploration work undertaken during 1992 has been successful in extending

the favourable Shunsby stratigraphy to the southeast and into the north-central portion of the project

area.

lLocal mineralization encountered within this package has produced encouraging copper and

l zinc values.

lAdditional field work is required to further delineate and upgrade areas for future diamond

l drill testing.

2.0 INTRODUCTION

l This report documents the 1992 reconnaissance exploration programme carried out by

Noranda Exploration Company, Limited (No Personal Liability) on it's large claim group situated

m within the central portion of the Swayze Greenstone Belt.

l3.0 LOCATION AND ACCESS

lm The project area is situated approximately 130 km southwest of the City of Timmins and 15

km northeast of the village of Sultan. This large group of claims is centered on the "4 corners" of

l Cunningham, Garnet, Blamey and Fawn townships (see Figure No. 1).

Recent logging operations in the vicinity has provided good access to the group by a series

l of gravel haulage roads. Numerous creeks and small lakes in area may also be utilized by canoe.

4.0 PROPERTY STATUSl

lDuring 1991 and 1992, a total of 271,40 acre units were acquired by staking within southeast

l Cunningham, southwest Garnet, northeast Blamey and northwest Fawn Townships.

lAll claims within the project area are situated within the Porcupine Mining District.

5.0 PREVIOUS WORK

lBase metal mineralization was first discovered in the area during the mid 1920's. Subsequent

l exploration efforts have located a number of mineral (Zn-Cu) showings, the most significant of these

l being the Shunsby Occurrence in central Cunningham Township where a combined inventory of 4.0

Mt grading 2.5696 Zn and Q.59% Cu has been recently (1990) released.

lm Previous exploration in the immediate vicinity of the project area has been sporadic and

poorly documented. Data compiled from both private and government files indicate local geophysical

l surveys, minor trenching and approximately 14 drill holes have been completed prior to 1991/1992.

l

6.0 REGIONAL GEOLOGYl

lThe project area is situated within the Swayze Greenstone belt which has been interpreted

as the Western Extension of the Archean-Aged Abitibi Subprovince. This belt is dominated by

l northwest trending, steeply dipping, tholeiitic basalts which have been metamorphosed to the

greenshist facies. Intercalated units of felsic metavolcanics, calc-alkaline flows and pyroclastics, as well

l as komatiitic ultramafics have been located in the area.

lLocally the belt has been underlain by typically concordant gabbroic bodies and intruded by

a number of granitoid plugs.

l lH Units of both clastic and chemical sediments have been locally interbedded with the prevalent

metavolcanics. Within Cunningham Township, cherty ironstones may host potentially economic

l concentrations of base metal sulfides.

' Finally, the belt has been intruded by a minor number of late pre-cambrian dikes of diabase,

l syenite and lamprophyre.

7.0 1992 WORK PROGRAMME

Introduction

Noranda Exploration Company, Limited (No Personal Liability) has been actively evaluating

the economic potential of the Swayze Greenstone Belt for many years. As part of an ongoing basem

metal exploration programme being conducted in the general vicinity of the Shunsby Occurrence, a

l large block of 271 claim units was acquired during 1991/1992. Reconnaissance exploration

— commenced on May 18, 1992 with intermittent field work being carried out by available Noranda

personnel (including, R. Pressacco, K. Green, S. Graham), during the summer months.

lA grand total of 21 1 samples were collected and submitted to Laboratories Chemex Ltee of

™ Rouyn-Noranda, P.Q. for analysis.

lTechnical Work

lB Exploration efforts consisted of the following:

l

l

l lB i) Reconnaissance Mapping and Sampling: surface exposures visited and sampled utilizing

available drainage systems, haulage roads, and overland "pace and compass" traverses. A total of 10

l (grab) samples for whole rock lithochemistry were collected and are enclosed with this report. Seem

Map No. l - Geological Mapping, and Map No. 2 - Sample Locations, located within the back pocket.

l ii) Stream Geochemistry: existing streams within the confines of the property were visited and

sampled by staff members. Organic material collected from 48 sites and sediment/silt from 16

B locations were submitted for metal content (Ag,Cu,Pb,Zn) analysis. Sample locations and results have

l been plotted.

l iii) Soil Geochemistry: five (5) reconnaissance survey lines straddling the Cunningham/Garnet

m township boundary were laid out during June, 1992. A total of 70 sites were visited at 25m intervals,

and samples collected from the "B" soil horizon. A survey plan, including results is included within

l the back pocket.

iv) Prospecting: GL Geoservices of Rouyn-Noranda was contracted to carry out prospecting

l over the claim group during early July, 1992. Favourable, conductive targets were located with a

"beep mat" system and subsequently exposed (if possible) by grubbing, and their mineralization

" evaluated. The cost of this contract, at SSOO/man day, came to S7,450.00. A total of 67 samples were

l submitted for analysis.

l The field notes and results of sampling are enclosed within Appendix II.

Results

l Interpretation of the stratigraphic package hosting the Shunsby Occurrence has indicated the

presence of a variolitic mafic volcanic flow separating the upper and lower mineralized chert-

* ironstone horizons/beds.

lRecent mapping by Noranda geologists have identified this marker flow in the south-central

l portion of claim P-l 182820, in Cunningham Township. Subsequent prospecting undertaken in the

B vicinity during July, 1992 has located 3 areas in which metal values exceed 196 Cu and 196 Zn. These

have been produced from conductive material hosting up to 39fc chalcopyrite, pyrite, sphalerite and

l pyrrhotite as disseminated grains, stringers and thin bands.

Geological mapping by Reno Pressacco over the southern portion of the property has

l outlined previously unexposed areas of felsic volcanic composition.

™ Stream sediment sampling has identified several locations on the property hosting elevated

l (geochemically anomalous) values of copper, zinc and lead.

l

lM 8.0 CONCLUSIONS

The soil survey conducted in the vicinity of post No. 4, P-l 177009 provided less than half a

dozen Cu and Zn values which could be considered anomalous.

Encouraging results have been returned from the prospecting/reconnaissance work carried out

during the summer field season of 1992. Mapping efforts have traced the favourable Shunsby

l lM stratigraphy for approximately 4km southeast towards the Cunningham/Garnet Township boundary.

Local mineralization exposed here is quite similar in style to that at the stringer-type zones at the

l occurrence and has produced assays of over 196 Cu and 196 Zn. Felsic volcanic rock units have been

identified in the southern portion of the property and are now a valid target for additional

' exploration.

lAs a result of this recent field work, it is quite apparent that the potential for economic base

B metal mineralization exists on this large claim group.

lFurther exploration is warranted.

l

l9.0 RECOMMENDATIONS

l Additional field work is required within the "corridor" underlain by the southeast trending

— extension of the Shunsby stratigraphy. A programme of linecutting, ground geophysical surveys

(magnetics and H.L.E.M.), as well as follow-up trenching and sampling, is recommended in order to

l delineate/upgrade targets for future drill testing.

B Follow-up mapping and prospecting, possibly leading to trenching is recommended for the

l localities to the south where felsic volcanic material has been recently exposed.
