Here, we made a selection of some of the best places in Stockholm we believe every design and interiors fan should visit. This guide, I hope, will help you discover an amazing city, and inspire you to pack your bag, and go! I would like to thank Saša Antić, Eero Koivito, Idha Lindhag and Johan Oscarson for answering our questions and sharing with us their top spots around the city. If you haven’t been to Stockholm yet, it definitely has to be added to your bucket list. It is chic, but with an edgy feel. It is one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, with swanky hotels and bars, beautiful nature with jewel-like islands, fantastic shopping, acclaimed chefs, an enviable quality of life, and a thriving design scene. There is so much to discover! Dozens of creative startups, trendy hangouts and inspiring shops and showrooms are opening up every month, making it almost impossible to gather everything the Swedish capital has to offer into one travel guide…

What makes"Stockholm"“We have a lot of open spaces and the buildings are not so crowded here. All the water makes Stockholm a more ‘open’ city. And also we have a lot of green parks and we’re close to the nature. I think the Old Town, in the middle of everything, is a one of a kind.”

Fabrique"Increasingly popular since its opening in 2009, Fabrique now counts over 6 locations across town. You’ll definitely want to try the fantastic artisanal sourdough bread at this stone oven bakery. It also has a great industrial décor.

Restaurant Museet"A rising star of Stockholm’s dining scene. We love the interior designed by Richard Lindvall, with wall mounted cognac colored leather sofas, dark wooden floors, brass details, old factory pendant lamps, etc. The cocktail bar alone is worth the visit.

B.A.R."A local’s favorite, B.A.R. is reputed for its uncomplicated, delicious menu of fish and seafood. We love the industrial chic and informal interior with wood, stainless steel, and black furniture.

Frantzén"Stockholm’s answer to Noma, Frantzén is a game-changer in the Scandi food revolution. It proudly holds the 12th place in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. About 95% of ingredients used are from Sweden, and the chef, Bjorn Frantzén, has a strong focus on simplicity and purity of flavor. Expect an imaginative menu in a simple and elegant dining room.

Here you’ll get a brilliant and innovative tasting menu full of surprises, dictated by the daily supply of local ingredients. The chefs propose well-presented dishes such as foraged lichen deep-fried in sourdough batter, or braised oxtail with beer gelée and dried beetroots. You’ll enjoy this authentic experience in an intimate and minimalistic dining room designed by architect Jonas Lindvall. Next door, the restaurant’s Speceriet is a great alternative for smaller budgets. You’ll get an accessible, unpretentious meal made with the same high quality ingredients as at Gastologik. Exciting flavors and culinary experience, combined with an informal, cozy feel.

At Matsalen, ‘The Dining Room’, you’ll taste high-quality, innovative dishes in a refined and elegant setting. Well worth the two Michelin stars! Next door, Matbaren, ‘The Food Bar’, is a modern bistro with an informal, relax and confortable atmosphere. Fresh seasonal produce, interesting menu, and excellent wine pairing. All in all, a great value for money.

Nazdrowje"Talented Swedish designer Richard Lindvall succeeded in turning a former car park into a sleek restaurant and nightclub. Concrete, steel, copper… the rawness of the place still remains, but it has become a modern and hip hangout we definitely recommend for a night out.

Architects trio Claesson Koivisto Rune made sure to preserve the beautiful traditional features of the place, while adding a touch of modernity. do and see"Fotografiska"The Swedish Museum of Photography is a beautiful gallery located in a former industrial building by the water. It features about 20 exclusive exhibitions every year, and it is said to be the world’s largest space for contemporary photography. Grab a bite at the museum’s café on the top floor for great views of the city.

Nordiska Museet"You’ll easily spend 2 to 3 hours exploring the Nordic Museum and discovering Swedish culture, traditions, furniture, interior design, trends, and more. If you don’t have much time, a short walk around this impressive late 19th century building is definitely worth it.

Moderna Museet "A must when in Sweden’s capital city! Moderna Museet has a world-class art and design collection by notable artists such as Andy Warhol, Picasso, Dali, Pollock, and many more. It also has a fantastic gift shop.

The ideal place to treat yourself and wind down after a long day of wandering around Stockholm. Launched in November 2012 by Tobias Ollén and Alexander Thorstrand, this design-oriented concept spa aims to make massages and facials accessible to all, in an inviting and unpretentious environment. They even have baby sitters on-site every Tuesday and Thursday morning! They offer a large selection of refreshing and soothing spa treatment as well as lovely products by Malin + Goetz, Baxter of California, and Elemental Herbology, among others.

STHLM Design District"Located on the west side of Södermalm, this is an area dedicated to over 30 leading companies in the field of design, textile and furniture: Almedahls, Orrefors, Swedstyle, etc. It often has open showroom events, and is a key location during the annual Stockholm Design Week.

Sleep late. Have a coffee at Sturekatten, a very old coffee place with a lot of atmosphere. Walk through Humlegården Park to Gun Gallery, the best contemporary photographers’ gallery in Scandinavia. Then have lunch at Food next door. Afterward, walk through the city and stop at Byredo, Acne, Fifth Ave. Shoe Repair and other Swedish contemporary fashion shops. Then walk through the Old Town, up the hill to Södermalm and the SOFO area. It has many independent small shops, bars, and restaurants close to Nytorget, such as Urban Deli. Have some drinks and a late dinner at Bar Central or La Vecchia Signora.
Q: What would be the best 24h in the city? !
All the water within the city. Actually Stockholm is built on many islands connected by bridges. Not good from a traffic point of view, bit nice for walking. It’s also a very green city, with a lot of parks. Good for kids growing up.
Q: Your favorite thing(s) about Stockholm:!
Q: Anything else you’d like to share about Stockholm?!The summer months are best for a visit to Stockholm. During the Design Week in February it’s cold, but there are many happenings in the city.

Eero is part of architect trio Claesson Koivisto Rune, and collaborated on several innovative projects ranging from design interiors and architecture to consumer products. Recipient of numerous awards, his firm are behind the Nobis Hotel in Stockholm (p.23), the Sfera Building in Kyoto and the Swedish Ambassador’s residence in Berlin, among others. Read more: ckr.se
• The Museum Of Modern Art (p.33) has a very good collection. Best in Scandinavia without question. The Wasa Museum. Built around a huge ship that sunk in the Stockholm harbor many hundred years ago. Interesting building too.
• Regarding restaurants I suggest Mattias Dahlgren (p.19). One of the world’s best in my opinion.
• The best design store is Asplund (p.37). They have a very strong Nordic identity, de- spite the fact that many things in the store are not Scandinavian.
• My favorite antique stores are Modernity (p.38) and Jackson’s. Both are mostly dealing with hard-to-find top-level modernist objects.
• The best hotels are Ett Hem (p.30), Nobis Hotel (p.25) and Hotel Skeppsholmen (p.29).

Q: Best view of the city:!• The view from my kitchen window during the blue hour, over Norrmälarstrand with a strong coffee. • The view from the large hill behind the old Munchen brewery, the hill is often filled with kids who
play music and drink beer. • The view from the Ersta terrace, you can reach it if you go down the Fjällgatan. • The view from the Town hall terrace (Stadshuset) where you can see over to the beautiful Södermalm. • The view from a boat somewhere in town, maybe my best tip!
Q: Anything else you’d like to share with us?!If you have more time, then take the ferry over to our beautiful island of Gotland, about 5 hours from Stockholm. An amazing place with the most changeable nature. Krakas Krog is restaurant where I ate my best dinner ever!

• Visit Gunnar Asplund’s and Lewerentz’s beautiful project “Skogskyrkogården”, which is an incredibly beautiful and peaceful cemetery.
• Dine at the lovely restaurant de Ville. • Have a drink on Södermalm’s most popular media hang out, Babylon. • Take the boat out to the new art museum Artipelag, worth just walk in the surroundings.

Q: What are your must see places in Stockholm?!• The Public Library by Asplund is a must, as well as the Woodland cemetery by Asplund and
Lewerentz. My personal favorite building is the Woodland chapel from 1918. • For food, pay a visit to Östermalmshallen or Hötorgshallen, which are the two main food market
halls. During season in August the scent of dill from the freshly cooked crayfish is fantastic. Do lunch at Operakällaren “Bakfickan”, an intimate relaxed counter restaurant with a beautiful interior. Go for the famous meatballs.
• For design, Asplund (p.37) is a contemporary selected design shop on Sibyllegatan. Check out especially their own brand. And don’t forget Svenskt Tenn (p.39): Classic design shop appreciated by all generations with its classic modern design from the Austrian architect Josef Frank, who was brought to Sweden by Estrid Ericson during world war II.
• Museum wise, Moderna Museet (p.33) is nicely situated at Skeppsholmen. It is designed by Moneo. I also recommend Fotografiska (p.31), a new and very successful museum of photography often with bold exhibitions.

This young and talented architect founded the firm Elding Oscarson with Jonas Elding back in 2007. He created acclaimed museums, theaters, private houses, interiors, furniture and product design. He is living in Stockholm since 1999. Read more: eldingoscarson.com
Q: What would be the best 24h in the city? !Take an early morning walk or run on Djurgården, a beautiful island with a number of fantastic places worth visiting: Rosendal’s gardens, an open garden with a great café or Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, a classic art museum by Ferdinand Boberg. Go west to Vasastan and visit the Public library by Asplund on Sveavägen. Try lunch at the small sourdough pizzeria “Pizza Hatt” on Upplandsgatan 9, run by creatives from Cheap Monday Jeans. Check out the art galleries on and around Hudiksvallsgatan, Andréhn Schiptjenko. among others. Explore Kungsholmen with the beautiful functionalist houses along Norr Mälarstrand and the City Hall by Ragnar Östberg where the Nobel prize banquet is held. Go to Taylor & Jones on Hantverkargatan to buy some fresh sausages and still in the neighborhood visit Le petit France for a coffee and cake, situated in the famous Merkelius House. Do some late shopping at the classic department store NK (p.32) on Hamngatan. You will find a loads of more great shopping in the blocks nearby: Acne Jeans on Norrmalmstorg or Byredo Parfums at Mäster Samuelsgatan. Start the evening at the bar Sturehof at Stureplan enjoying the typical and evergreen interior by Jonas Bohlin. Have dinner at Matbaren (p.19), a relaxed yet top notch “back pocket” restaurant by Mattias Dahlgren. Enjoy the amazing view of Stockholm city by night from Gondolen, a bar located in the Katarina elevator which is a public elevator situated by Slussen.
