GE Renewable Energy reclaimed the top spot for turbine manufacturers in 2018, capturing 40 percent of U.S. wind turbine capacity installations. Vestas followed with 38 percent of the market, Nordex USA captured 11 percent, and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy represented 8 percent of installations. Fortune 500 companies have a large appetite for wind power. Non-utility customers like AT&T, Walmart, ExxonMobil, and Shell Energy purchased a record 4,203 MW of wind power capacity in 2018. The Top Five U.S. States in Wind Power Capacity Canadian wind energy operating capacity at the end of 2018: 12,816 MW Wind generating capacity installed in 2018: 566 MW There is installed wind energy capacity in all Canadian jurisdictions except Nunavut, with the bulk of wind power currently located in the provinces of Ontario (5,076 MW or 40 percent), Quebec (3,882 MW or 30 percent), and Alberta (1,483 MW or 12 percent). Six wind energy projects were powered up in 2018, adding 566 MW of installed capacity—a continuation of steady growth that contributed to an average annual growth rate of 20 percent per year since 2008. The six new wind energy projects that went into operation in 2018 represent an estimated total investment of $1 billion.
