North Vancouver’s history and stories will soon be brought to life for residents and visitors in an extraordinary new museum in North Vancouver’s Shipyards District (115 West Esplanade) located in a City-owned amenity space. The archives and its rich documentary resources will remain in Lynn Valley’s Community History Centre. Everyone associated with the North Vancouver Museum and Archives—be they staff, NVMA Commissioners and Friends Society Directors, Capital Campaign volunteers, Friends Society members and donors—has worked tirelessly over the past year to help NVMA transition toward a new level of achievement and prepare for the Grand Opening of the new museum in fall 2020.

To date, 80% of the $8.6 M fundraising target has been achieved. The Capital Campaign continues in a ‘quiet phase’ seeking major gifts; in spring 2020 the ‘public phase’ of the campaign will start and community members will be invited to make contributions of any size. The Capital Campaign is led by volunteers John Gilmour, President of the Friends of the NVMA Society, and Matti

Polychronis, Chair of the Fund Development Committee. The Campaign Cabinet reports to the NVMA Commission, whose members are appointed by the City and the District of North Vancouver.

Charitable donations to the Campaign will enhance and complete the new museum, allowing NVMA to build interactive exhibits, outfit spaces and create engaging programs within the new facility. Donations are made through the Friends of the NVMA Society, a registered charity, and are deposited in a New Museum Fund. In some circumstances, donations may also go to the NVMA, with tax receipts issued by the City of North Vancouver.
