After scooping up a fumble, Andrew Hyacinth, with apowerful escort of fellow Mustangs, ran 95 yards for atouchdown.

Mustangs begin to celebrate as QB Maciah Long bulldozeshis way across the goal line for what would become thegame winning touchdown.

Eric Monroe knocks away pass on third down, forcing theChaparrals to punt the ball.

The Mustang defense limited Austin Westlake to oneoffensive touchdown by pressuring the opposing QB andlimiting their running backs to 19 yards rushing.

They made plays whenthey needed to, like An-drew Hyacinth scooping upa fumble and returning it95 yards for the Mustangsfirst score of the game.

And with seconds re-maining, the game in thebalance, score tied 14-14,Westlake was set to kick apotential game winningfield goal; but Zafir Mur-phy leapt above the lineand blocked the kick, send-ing the Mustangs and theirfans into a raucous frenzyand the game into over-time.

In overtime North Shoregot the ball first, and end-ed with QB Maciah Longbulldozing a one-yardtouchdown run up the mid-dle. Kicker Aaron Cuevasadded the extra point, thenit was the defenses turn. The tension mounted oncethe Chaparrals got a firstdown, but terrorizing theWestlake quarterback, thedefense shut the Chapar-

rals down. The Mustangdefense held on fourthdown and sealed the statetitle for their team andtheir town.

“East side!” they chant-ed as fans cheered. Thoughnot a fairy tale, the storydoes have a satisfying end-ing for the Mustangs. Tell-ing the tale of their successafter the game, #87, juniorAugust Thomas exultedthe secret to their success,“Hard work and dedica-tion,” he exclaimed.

A sigh of relief for fansof the North Shore Mus-tangs, the tale of the 2015high school football seasoncame to an end in a fittingovertime victory for thescarlet and white.

“I couldn’t write a bet-ter script for how thisgame ended and the waythis team has worked andimproved and competed,”said Coach Kay after thegame.

1: And it came to pass in those days, thatthere went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

2: (And this taxing was first made whenCyrenius was governor of Syria.)

3: And all went to be taxed, every one intohis own city.

4: And Joseph also went up from Galilee, outof the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto thecity of David, which is called Bethlehem;(because he was of the house and lineage ofDavid:)

5: To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

6: And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accom-plished that she should be delivered.

7: And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him inswaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was noroom for them in the inn.

8: And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in thefield, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9: And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory ofthe Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10: And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring yougood tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11: For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12: And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babewrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13: And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of theheavenly host praising God, and saying,

14: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good willtoward men.

15: And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from theminto heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go evenunto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which theLord hath made known unto us.

16: And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, andthe babe lying in a manger.

17: And when they had seen it, they made known abroad thesaying which was told them concerning this child.

18: And all they that heard it wondered at those things which weretold them by the shepherds.

19: But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.20: And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all

the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Butif you are going to achieveyour long-term goals, such as a comfortableretirement, you need toinvest consistently. Sobefore you pay everyoneelse, pay yourself first byhaving some moneyautomatically moved fromyour checking or savingsaccount each month intoan investment.

… Take advantage ofyour opportunities. If youhave a 401(k) or similarplan at work, take fulladvantage of it. Contrib-ute as much as you canafford – or at leastenough to earn youremployer’s match, if oneis offered – and choose

Time for some New Year’s(financial) resolutions

the mix of investmentsthat give you the poten-tial to achieve the growthyou need at a level of riskwith which you arecomfortable.

… Focus on the longterm. In the short term, you might be excused fornot wanting to invest. The headlines aretypically scary, thefinancial markets arefrequently volatile andthe future often looksmurky. Yet, if you canlook past the uncertain-ties of today and keepyour focus on tomorrow, you will find it easier tofollow a disciplinedinvestment strategy thatgives you the opportunityto meet your long-termgoals, such as a comfort-able retirement.

…. Don’t be driven byfear. When the market isdown, investors tend toreact with fear. Specifi-cally, they rush to selltheir investments, afraidthat if they don’t “cuttheir losses,” they mightsustain even bigger ones.If you can get past thisfeeling, you may find thata down market can offeryou the chance to buyquality investments atgood prices.

… Forget about the“hot stocks.” You’ll hearfriends, co-workers andtalking heads on televi-sion tout today’s “hotstocks.” But by the timeyou might hear aboutthem, they may havecooled off – and, in anycase, they might not beappropriate for yourneeds. Forget about“getting rich quick in themarket” – it probablywon’t happen. Trueinvestment successrequires patience andpersistence.

… Cut down on yourdebts. It’s easy to pile updebts, but a lot hardergetting rid of them. Yet, ifyou can reduce your debtload even moderately, you’ll free up money youcould use to invest. Solook for ways to conserve, cut back and consolidate– it will be worth theeffort.

Making these resolu-tions – and sticking tothem – can help you asyou work toward achiev-ing your financial goals.

The answer is rathersimple. Let’s start withstuff to AVOID buying foryour woman. It’s very un-likely that she will likethese gifts:

1. Vacuum cleaner, broom, mop, dustpan oranything else for cleaningthe house. You could endup with a broken bone.

2.Tablecloth, napkins, silverware, cups, glasses—any kind of housewares. You could end up on thecouch.

3 . S w e a t e r s — av o i dthem, especially cardi-gans… as they make wom-en look old. You could endup in the garage.

4.Do not buy anythingin an extra-large, if she re-ally needs extra-largeclothes let her buy herown. You don’t want to riskit. You could actually DIEover this one.

5.Stupid hats. I learnedthis one 40 years ago bybuying Linda a furhat…and she just laughedhysterically.

6. Be careful aboutworkout clothes. I lovethem but lots of womentake that as a sign that youwant them to work outmore. This is not a smartthing to do.

7. Avoid the followingmovies—Dirty Dozen,Gladiator, Troy and allmovies starring the follow-ing actors—Clint East-

get for my galfor Christmas?”

wood, John Wayne, ChuckNorris, Steven Seagal, VinDiesel, and Tom Cruise. They don’t need to seemovies by most of thoseactors.

8. Cookbooks. Waydangerous! Do not gothere!

9. Maps, GPS or otherhoming devices, even if sheneeds them. She’ll beginby telling you somethinglike “men drive 276 milesa year while lost, ratherthan stop and ask for di-rections”. VERY risky busi-ness!

10. Any gadgets that sheisn’t going to know how touse… and for some wom-en, that’s going to cover alot of gadgets.

Jewelry is the thing tobuy her for Christmas ifthe following is true:

11. You actually love herand want to give her sometoken of your affection.

Now that was not sohard, was it?
