A Letter from the President
Happy March Everyone,
As it always is, this winter was a short one. Seemed particularly short
this year with the lack of snow here. With 60 degree temperatures in
the upcoming week and the clocks turning ahead, spring has just about
arrived. This is the last newsletter of the season and I’d like to take the
time to reflect on what was still a great season despite the lack of
precipitation.
In January, Mark Carrier, John Flieger, my daughter Erika and myself
had a great time. We stayed at Bald Mountain Camps and followed the
snow into Pittsburg. The riding was spectacular as was the company.
Valentines weekend Dana and I were at the Hotel Sacacomie in
Quebec for 3 days of beautifully groomed trails and evenings of
gourmet meals that make my mouth water just thinking about it. (Most
delicious Elk and venison I’ve ever had). On that Monday, we made our
way downward into Millinocket, an 8 hour ride that included the snow
and ice covered Golden Road at 11:00 PM with a four place trailer in
tow. A white knuckle ride for sure. Chris Arena, his wife and again; my
daughter Erika joined us for a week of fantastic riding ending on
Sunday. The day we departed it was 47 degrees and sunny in northern
Maine and we could see the snow melting away as we drove.
The next meeting on March 10th will be our last meeting of the year. We
will be holding our elections and will be voting on some changes to the
current bylaws that Larry has posted and emailed to us all. I’m hoping
to have the new club merchandise that everyone has ordered at that
time. I’ll reach out to you all beforehand to let you know what the costs
are.
The end of the season banquet will be held at the Chateau in Westboro
on April 25th at 6:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you and a guest.
Lets all get out there and make the most of the remaining days we
have to tear up the trails!
-Kris

HomePride owner Kris Auger is a third generation craftsman with a
keen eye for attention to detail. His passion for woodworking and
building began when he was a young boy, watching his grandfather
deftly manipulate wood into objects of beauty. Tree forts were a
fascination that kept him busy through adolescence followed by
immersion into trade school and the United States Marine Corps.
Years of experience have allowed Kris to learn and master the art of
building and remodeling. Care of every client and precise and
complete attention to every detail of your job is Homepride's highest
priority.

Club Trip to Fort Kent
MLK Weekend January 2020
Twenty of us went on this ride and boy did we ever have a good time! A
few of us drove up Wednesday to avoid the coming storm and were
rewarded with dry roads…nice! The rest, except for Stevie and Annie,
came up Thursday. The trails were in good shape and gave us some
very nice riding conditions. Friday, I led a good dozen of us on the
“Daisy Ride”, which included Moses and Nola. We got as far as the
turnoff from the ITS onto the club trail through the potato fields where
Moses, Nola, John and Josie decided to break away to do their own
thing. The rest of us cut through the fields and back onto the ITS in St.
Agathe heading south. Eventually hooked on to the 105 northbound to
Van Buren where we stopped for lunch at Oullette’s. From there we
headed back to Fort Kent. It was a great ride with no incidents and no
issues, just a good time.
Friday night we joined the Chief and his crew of friends for supper at
“The Buck”. Another good time.
Larry led another group on a ride that day, but he can tell that story. But
it sounded like they had a great ride.
There were two rides into Canada, both to Moose Valley Sports Club in
New Brunswick. Another ride out to the Allagash and Two Rivers
Lunch. A bunch of giddy-up’n to and from the local dealers for parts,
service and professional advice.
Some of us went to a new restaurant in town called Crossings (the old
BJs), with an upper scale menu of pizza, burgers and paninis. Along
with The Swampbuck and Walker’s Pub, I would say the palate was
well taken care of.
Must also mention the staff at The Northern Door made sure we all
were comfortable for the long weekend.
It was a great weekend, hope to see more of you come along next year.

Eight Easy Riders just got back from an awesome 3 day (free of trail
pass costs) weekend in New Brunswick.. The trip started off on a bad note.
One of the tow vehicles broke down on 295 just north of Portland Maine. It
was towed to a near by dealer and left there for them to check it out. Another
member with a two place trailer and one sled, turned around and came back
around 30 miles to pick up our stranded member so he could continue with the
trip. Friday morning in Fort Kent was quite cold.... Try -17 when we awoke....
Issue number two.... one sled would not start. Eventually with the help of a
hair drier to warm up the engine it started and we headed out across the
boarder several hours late.... We crossed the border with no real issues only
to find a safety officer checking for registration and insurance.... Another short
delay, but thankfully all our members had the appropriate documentation to
show that we were insured. Not so with another group ahead of us. At least
three were given warnings as their insurance doc’s did not show the amount of
coverage. The fine could have been $604.00 CA. The trails across northern
New Brunswick were awesome and we made up some of the delay times,
getting into Campbellton at 7:30 ish Friday evening with a ride of about 190
miles. Of coarse we stopped at Moose Valley for lunch. Saturday was a
beautiful day and with the late arrival the night before, we got going a little late,
but still did an appx 150 mile loop down to Island Lake Lodge via trail 22.
Return was via trail 19 and 24 where our GPS program ended at a clubhouse.
UGH !! Out came my phone and I brought up the Federation’s phone app to
figure out how to proceed. Via the map app we found that 24 did continue to
305 and then to 285, before rejoining 22 and back to the hotel. Sunday we
awoke to warmer temps and after breakfast we loaded and headed home.
Trails were again quite good (much better than I had anticipated). Again a stop
at Moose Valley for Lunch and on the Edmunston. Issue three... John S's sled
started to make some strange noises. He suspected the bearing behind the
clutch so we slowed down a little and we limped back to Ft. Kent and an easy
border crossing. Some of us went down to Lakeview for supper (some by
sled, some via an alternate transportation method). Total including the trip to
Lakeview for supper was around 600 miles....
