Northwold Gold Award – In the Press We’re really proud of our Gold Award from the Mayor of London. We’re very excited to feature in the latest issue of the Hackney Gazette - http://tinyurl.com/ohvwnmk . Jasper Corbett, from the Governing Body, sent us these kind words –

“Congratulations to you all. It’s brilliant to get public recognition for all the amazing work you’ve done at Northwold.” All this has been achieved thanks to the hard work of the whole school community and you should be very proud of the part you play in this success.

Wednesday Coffee Mornings Every Wednesday from 9.00-10.00am there will be a coffee morning held in the Canteen. Each week, one of the school’s leaders will be talking about their area of responsibility. Why not join other parents afterwards for a coffee? The first meeting will be on 7th October, which will be led by the Headteacher, Ms Kriel. The second – 14th October – will be led by Ms Goulbourne.

Viney Hill As promised here are some pictures from Viney Hill. Did we mention last week that the children also did fire-making, bug-handling, wall climbing, assault courses, camp-fire cooking and crate-stacking? We had a fantastic time working together doing all these incredible things. We bet your children can’t wait to visit Viney Hill in Year 6.

Homework Books Homework books are now available for English, Maths and Science. Please pay the massively discounted sum of £5.00 for all three books in the Office. We also still have our online subscriptions to Reading Eggs (or Eggpress), Spellodrome and Mathletics.

After School Clubs Letters for After School Clubs have been sent home. If you would like your child to join a club, please return the completed form to the Office as soon as possible. Clubs fill up fast. They will start on Monday 12th October.

Cornerstones – An Even More Creative Curriculum We are teaching our curriculum in a new and even more exciting way. In the past few weeks classes have had some Memorable Experiences to start off their new topics. As promised here are some more write-ups of the children’s memorable experiences. Again a massive thank you to the large number of parents taking part too.

Year 4 – Traders and Raiders For the Year 4 memorable experience the children

were asked to assume the role of a Saxon Raider.

They learnt about how the Saxons and later the

Vikings left their own lands in search of a new life

in England and other places. Their challenge was to

create their own Saxon warrior character and

design an eye-catching sword and shield. In

addition, the children worked on designing and

building longboats throughout the day. The

memorable experience culminated in a thrilling

longboat race between Brazil and Jamaica classes.

It was a hard-fought and thrilling event where both

teams gave their all. The race resulted in a narrow

victory for the Brazil longboat and a great day was

had by all involved!

Parent – Teacher Conferences The parent-teacher conferences began during this week. You should have had your letter from school giving the three dates for the coming year. This should give you enough time to make any changes to your working day so you can meet with your child’s teacher. These meetings happen just before the start of the school day, where you get a chance to look at and discuss your child’s work and their targets in detail for the current term and the rest of the year. We would really like you to see how your child is taught and how they work in school as well as getting to know the whole class, so you are welcome to stay in the classroom after your meeting.

e-Safety – A is for Accept

Part of the fun of being online is the fact you can communicate with so easily with so many of your friends and family, both near and far away. In your email or IM accounts you will also receive so many messages from people you don’t know. These messages might have pictures attached or hyperlinks that contain viruses that could badly damage your devices and cause you to lose valuable personal information. The messages might look interesting but encourage your child to be extremely cautious of messages from unknown people, as there could be someone or something unpleasant behind that message. This type of content will always be present, so it is best to discuss with your child what to do rather than limit their access to the internet. Just as one day they will have to cross the road by themselves and walk to school by themselves, so they will navigate the online world by themselves and it is better that they are prepared to deal with the unpleasant

things that can happen in the right way and not come to any harm.

If there are any areas of e-Safety you want to know more about, please feel free to discuss it with Mr Braune, your child’s teacher or one of the school’s leaders.
