Fall Must Haves

There are a few things that every home must have when decorating for fall.

Nothing speaks the language of fall more than Hall China in the Autumn

Leaf pattern, originally produced as the Jewel Tea pattern in 1936.

Anything copper is another must! This gorgeous metal will improve any fall

décor theme. The reflective nature of copper enhances all of the colors of

fall.

Wooden bowls and vessels will always give a natural beauty to your home

and will provide a beautiful backdrop to any mantle display.

Vintage linens with handiwork in browns, oranges, yellows and black will

enhance any tablescape. Napkins, table runners, placemats and tablecloths

offer the finishing touch to your dining experience.

Pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn and acorns aren’t necessarily vintage fare, but

they’re all a necessity for a true autumn display. Let Mother Nature assist

you.

Don’t’ forget the scents of the season. Amber, vanilla, cinnamon, pumpkin

and anise all remind us that the holiday season is just around the corner.

IT’S AUTUMN….

Vintage Literary Works

I had a special request one day. My daughter-in-law has a friend who is a bookworm extraordinaire. She contacted me to ask for a first edition copy of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass. She tells me it’s a priceless piece. Of course, I promised that if I ever locate this book she’ll be the first to know. I thought to myself that too often we overlook the work of our history’s literary masters. Their manuscripts fill our library shelves…some are seldom reviewed. Antique books are heavy, which is deemed a burden today. And, they frequently show the wear and tear of improper care and storage. What a sad thing because each has so much to offer. I, for one, appreciate the effort put forth to bring us these artistic anthologies. Often bound in Moroccan leather and gilded in gold; they’re dressed to impress. Often, that is enough to lure the avid reader, but, luckily, the best is yet to come…amazing stories await within the binding. Select whichever subject appeals to you. The choices are endless. Mr. Dickens will fill your senses with the scents and sounds of The Cratchit home at Christmastime. Dip your toe in the great Mississippi’s water with Tom Sawyer while Mr. Twain lures you into his next big adventure. And, walk the rich, red earth of Tara with Scarlett O’Hara as Ms. Mitchell sings a sweet southern lullaby with her uncanny grasp of the English language. I invite you to take a journey with one of the many antiquarian books that Norwood has to offer. Enjoy!
