To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven …

... a time of great joy …

It is not easy to entrust oneself to God's mercy, because it is an abyss beyond our comprehension. But we must! ... "Oh, I am a great sinner!" All the better! Go to Jesus; He likes you to tell him these things! He forgets. He has a very special capacity for forgetting. He forgets, He kisses you, He embraces you and He simply says to you: "Neither do I condemn you; go, and sin no more.” (Jn 8:11)

THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH

FAMILY LIFE Family life is sacred, but it is not without trial. Perhaps this is the most important message we can glean from today’s readings. If Jesus, Mary, and Joseph can trip up sometimes—can disconnect—then we shouldn’t find it surprising when such things happen to us as well. And parents everywhere (children, too) can probably relate to—and take some solace in—the Gospel’s account of Mary and Joseph after Jesus explained why he stayed

behind in the temple. They heard his words, Luke tells us, “But they did not understand what he said to them” (Luke 2:50). Amen! Nevertheless, Jesus does go back home with them, and continues to thrive under their care.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU FROM THE ANTIOCH 69 TEAM

We are so grateful to our parish family and friends who generously offered their time, talent, monetary donations, love and prayers, in support of our Anti-och 69 retreat. These gifts helped make the week-end the powerful faith journey it was, bringing some very special teens closer to Christ.

OUR ND CHRISTMAS CONCERT: WHAT A BLESSING!

All who came out for our Christmas Concert on December 13 were treated to the most glorious performance! The considerable gifts of our Adult Choir, Teen Choir and Joyful Noise combined to delight our full church with a beautiful repertoire of carols. Music Director, Jim Keefe, and Teresa Elko, who directs our Teen Choir and Joyful Noise, were maestros extraordinaire, drawing the talents and energy out of their choirs and musicians with skill and grace.

Two special highlights of the concert included a piano solo by special needs parishioner, Michael Puzio, who warmed the hearts of everyone with “There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays.” Finally, Fr. Paddy and a talented friend who just relocated from Ireland brought down the house with their duet of “O Holy Night.”

To wrap up the concert, Fr. Paddy led everyone in singing the classic carol, “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.”

Great thanks to our Music Ministry for sharing their talents, gifts and faith as we journey toward the birth of our Savior!

Did you miss the concert?

You can still share in the joy! We have posted pictures and video of on our website at www.ndcarmel.com (click on News), and also our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ndcarmel. YOUNG ADULT PARISHIONER BRINGING MERCY THROUGH OUTREACH MISSION IN ECUADOR

Dana Cavanaugh will embark on a service mission to Ecuador this January! She will be working alongside doctors and nurses at mobile health clinics to provide medical care to the local impoverished community. “I feel so grateful to be able to embark on this journey to Riobamba. “IRONY: WHENEVER I TRY TO LIVE FOR ME I END UP LESS HAPPY”

A Reflection from Chris Stefanik

It seems logical enough to think that making my own needs the center of my attention would increase my chances of achieving happiness. But life keeps teaching me otherwise. Those days when I wake up and ask, “How can my wife be a better spouse?” (or worse, when I decide to tell her what I’ve come up with),

aren’t my best days! But the days when I wake up, spend time in prayer, and ask the question: “How can I make my wife the happiest wife on earth?”…those are the days I end up being the happiest husband on earth.

It’s a simple formula, really (it’s amazing how long it takes me to grasp things that life teaches me every day). When I pour myself out and choose to be a servant to others, I end up being full inside. When I don’t, I end up being empty. The problem is that millions of years of evolution have given me a brain the default for which is self-preservation. It’s natural. But Jesus invites me to more.

So how do I get my heart to turn inside out? It all starts with asking the right questions. Are you lonely and asking yourself why the acquaintances

you have lack what it takes to be an intimate friend? Are you wondering why your co-worker is such a jerk? Are you nervous about who is going to sit by you in the

cafeteria today?

Try asking these kinds of questions instead: How can I be the friend I wish I had? How can I be a blessing to my cantankerous co-worker? Who is sitting alone in the cafeteria that I can sit by?

An approach to your day this way might not solve all your problems, but it will fix your biggest problem: your attitude.

“Do nothing from selfish ambition, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves…Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus…he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave” (Philippians 2).

There’s no surer recipe for happiness! Now that’s irony. Stop thinking about it, and go do it. God bless you!
