Protectors can be used in tandem configurations for increased motor protection. They are available in both bag type and labyrinth style designs to meet specific applications. High load thrust bearings and high temperature elastomers avail-able in all models as well as corrosion resistant housings and flam spray coating optional.

NOVA ESP provide the protectors in 375, 400, 540 in differ-ent configuration SB, DB labyrinth and modular.

NOVA ESP PROTECTORSTHE BEST CHOICE

Through consideration of problems associated with down hole environments, combined with a positive barrier to well fluids, makes the NOVA ESP protector the best choice in seal chambers for long submersible motor run life.

The Protector is located between the motor and the intake and performs the following functions:

NOVA ESP’s unique design, combined with the toughest materi-als available for sand and corrosion protection, has made NOVA ESP gas separator a performance leader.

The intake section of a submersible pump functions as a suction manifold, feeding the well fluid to the pump. In standard appli-cations, an intake can be a simple inlet hole adaptor attached between the protector and the pump. In application with higher gas/oil ratios and lower bottom hole pressures, the well fluid may contain significant amounts of f ree gas. A gas separator, designed to separate free gas from the well fluid before it enters the pump, replaces the intake section.

The rotary gas separator with high efficiency balanced rotors, standard abrasion resistant bearing system capable handling high GOR wells as well as Monel corrosion resistant trim as op-tion.

The Rotary Gas Separator are available on 400 and 540 series.

NOVA ESPVARIABLE SPEED DRIVETOTAL FLEXIBILITY

When changing reservoir conditions are the problem, look to NOVA ESP’s Variable Speed Drive for the solution. Built for any type of envi-ronment, from desert heat and dust to freezing cold and rain, NOVA ESP’s Variable Speed Drive gives consistent, year-round dependable service.

A simple adjustment of the frequency setting varies flow rate and pump discharge pressure to match your changing reservoir condi-tions, eliminating costly system change-outs over the life of the well.

The packages are available in low voltage 380-690 V, as in medium Voltage, 2300-4160 Volt configurations.

Packages are fully customized to meet customer specifications to operate on-shore or offshore in any conditions.

Packaged units are available with stand alone NEMA ¾ enclosures, to fully functional control room packages housed in custom electrical house type modules on skid bases.

10

Low voltage Variable speed drive’s are voltage source DC link converters with IGBT inverters. This package in now the standard of the industry with the phasing out of VVI type six step drives.

Medium Voltage Variable speed drive’s are available in either voltage source or current source type drives.

NOVA ESP understands line and load side harmonic problems.

Line side solutions range from trap and linear type harmonic filters to multi-pulse converter sections utiliz-ing 12, 18, and 24 pulse configurations.

Trap or notch type filters typically referred to as 5th, 7th, 11th, and 13th, harmonic filters are used when source impedance conditions are known and will not change over time. Linear type harmonic filters remove harmonics above the 4.3 harmonic and are used when source impedances are unknown and when the Variable speed drive’s are to be loaded near full load. If site conditions are varying along with the load conditions, then multi-pulse converter sections for fully active front end technology to reduce the harmonic content that feed back to the power source allowing each installation to meet IEEE 519 1992 guidelines.

To provide power for 12 and 18 pulse Variable speed drive NOVA ESP is able to provide custom built dual polygon transformers that are reconfigurable to work in a by pass condition for direct on line switchboard applications. Source transformers can also be pro-vided with tertiary windings in order to provide site power for additional loads such as well site lighting or chemical injection pumps.

of equal impedance to each device sol-dered into the array. This is very difficult to do, moreover, each individual MOV is not identical to all others in the array and that means that car fail prematurely, which then produces a cascading, cata-strophic failure of all the other devices in the array.

NOVA ESP utilize single MOV devices assembled in a non destructive package and this allow mounted inside of Variable speed drive without use of additional pro-tective fuse or circuit breakers.

NOVA ESPVARIABLE SPEED DRIVETOTAL FLEXIBILITY

Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) Variable Speed drives produce har-monics centered on their carrier frequencies and multiples thereof. The use of PWM Variable Speed drives in ESP applications gives way to resonant conditions that allows the carrier frequency or one of its multiples to amplify the voltage seen at the motor at magni-tudes that will quickly damage the motor or the cable supplying it. NOVA ESP IS able to provide load side filtering for ESP applications that will eliminate load side harmonics being applied to the motor or the cable, in turn supplying a true sinusoidal voltage waveform to the ESP. Run life is significantly improved in these applications.

NOVA ESP Variable speed drive packages use Transient voltage surge suppressor devices (TVSS). All TVSS devices are not created equal and most employ multiple metal oxide varistors soldered to-gether to form a single protective block. The problem with this type of device is it is subject to the skill of the assembler to provide paths

The main use for VSD’s is to provide flexibility for operating the ESP when connected to Hi-Line power. NOVA ESP offers Vari-able Frequency Generator packages either skid mounted or installed within sound deadened enclosures certified for ship-ping via sea freight.

Variable frequency generators offer the end user an opportu-nity to drive connected submersible pumps at any frequency between 35 and 70 Hertz. the unit offers end users a flexible and reliable package for fixed installations or for site well test-ing. Using a variable frequency generator enables well testing over a range of operating frequencies without having to use a Variable Speed drive (VSD). There are many advantages to not transporting expensive and complex VSD’s to remote sites during the testing stage of new wells.

NOVA ESP uses quality Caterpillar Industrial Engines and Stam-ford Generators. Woodward governors and Basler regulators complete the package. NOVA ESP is able to custom tailor each package to client specifications no matter how rigid they may be.

There is more benefit when you use VFG:

HORIZONTAL PUMPSince the launch of the Horizontal pumping system NOVA ESP has proved to be a cost ef-fective alternative to split case, vertical turbine and positive displacement pump designs in many applications.

The Horizontal Injection System is available in a wide range of sizes with discharge rates from 700 bpd to 65,000 bpd and discharge pressures up to 4320 PSI. Higher discharge pressures are available upon request. They can also be installed in parallel for large vol-umes and for protection from total system shutdown.

The Horizontal Injection System is standard manifold is typically limited to a maximum pressure of approximately 200 PSI, although, higher pressure intake manifold pressures in the range of 0 to 3,000 PSI are available upon request. There is also a minimum suction pressure limitation, required to prevent cavitations, depending on pump design.

The horizontal injection system is a high volume, high pressure pump ideally suited for use in water flood operations, in transfer wells and as a pipeline booster pump. It moves fluid with a standard centrifugal pump, driven by a standard class A or B electric motor, through a specially designed thrust chamber. There is no crank case, or plunger, because the pump section and fluid seal are cooled by the pumped fluid itself.

These pre-packaged units are provided as a whole system from a single-source vender and delivered pre-assembled to the site. The modular design of factory aligned components permits easy main-tenance and minimal downtime when maintenance is required. All major com-ponents can be exchanged within 2 or 3 hours and the exception of the motor, will not require realignment before the pump is started.

POWER CABLEPower Cable are offered in AWG sizes from #6 to #1 and with Gal-vanized or Monel armor.

Selection of power cable is based on well conditions such as tempera-ture, gas, and pressure.

NOVA ESP’s selection offers multiple types of cable specially designed to perform reliably in well conditions and harsh environments normally found in submersible operations.

TRANSFORMERSRegardless of transformer - primary voltage, NOVA ESP can provide the transformers to meet the requirements of any cable and motor, any stepuporstepdownindifferentKVA.

VENT JUNCTION BOXRecommended for all Submersible installations, this product protects the control panel from gas migration from the well. As a point of con-nection for down hole cable to surface cable, the vented junction box makes safety and installation easy.

CHECK VALVEWhen a down hole submersible shuts down, the fluid in t he t ubing string falls back through the pump, causing the Pump shaft to backspin.

A broken shaft can result if the control panel is not set properly and the unit restarts while the pump is in backspin. A check valve installed in the tubing beneath the drain valve protects your investment by hold-ing the liquid in the tubing and preventing the pump from going into backspin.

DRAIN VALVEPulling a wet string of tubing can increase rig time and cause haz-ardous working conditions. The drain plug, contained in the drain valve and placed two or more tubing joints above the pump, can be served.

When a bar is dropped from the surface, all liquid is released within the tubing.

TUBING HEADBuilt specially for submersible pumping applications, these heavy- duty steel tubing head give consistently dependable service. Whether the application requires mandrels or pig tails or sealing and support for cable and tubing, NOVA ESP has the product.

NOVA ESP JET PUMPS

NOVA ESP Jet pumps are one type of downhole pump that can operate in high-volume, high-depth environments. Their remarkable flexibility in installation and operation requirements allows them to meet a broad range of artificial lift appli-cations. The most significant feature of jet pumps are their short length, lack of moving parts, cost effectiveness, reliability and simple installation. This makes jet pumps a preferred artificial lift system in certain well conditions.

Using different sized nozzles and throats, jet pumps can produce output from less than 50 B/D up to rates in excess of 10,000 B/D. Significant free–gasvolumescanbehandledwithoutpro-duction problems or excessive wear commonly associated with positive displacement pumps.

Surface UnitsNOVA ESP Hydraulic lift systems require surface equipment to clean, and pressurize the power fluid to operate down hole hydraulic pumps. These units are oilfield skid mounted and specially designed to perform under extreme conditions. A typical surface unit comprises of: multiplex pump, prime mover, reservoir vessel, various valves and control mechanisms. For power fluid cleaning requirements, a properly sized cyclone separa-tor capable of removing solids of up to 20 micron is used.

NOVA ESP use in-house computer simulation programs to design the proper jet pump for your fluid lifting needs, ranging from 30 up to 625 HP. A horizontal pumping system can normally be used in such applica-tions to force the power fluid down the well bore. The returning fluid is
