From the Pastor’s Desk 2
This week is Thanksgiving week, a time filled with family reunions, Black Friday extravaganzas, and irregular schedules. I am no exception. We are having a visitation at our monastery in Conception, then our normal Thanksgiving week meetings culminating with the honoring of our monks who celebrate jubilees of ordination or monastic profession. I will be gone from the parish through Thanksgiving, with the exception of Mass on Monday morning and Wednesday evening. Thanksgiving is a reminder to be thankful – and I have a lot to be thankful for. Sometimes in the monastery I would look across the aisle to the other side of choir and count the blessings represented by the monks on the other side. Here I am able to look out into the congregation and see more familiar faces this year than last, and name many more of the people in the congregation along with your gifts, quirks, contributions, and connections. The blessings are many, and as I get to know more of you better, my awareness of the blessings you bring will increase.
I must start with thanking the staff – they are so generous in connecting with you, in coordinating events to nourish you spiritually, in communicating with each other, in getting along internally with each other, in tolerating my disorganization or forgetfulness, in putting in the time to get jobs done, in their generosity and industry. If I have time to prepare homilies, celebrate sacraments, meet, greet, & visit people, it is due to their fine work which frees me up. There is much to be grateful for here – many thanks!
I am equally thankful for all the volunteers – our budget would have to be double or triple what it is to get all the things done that volunteers do for the parish and school. This is especially apparent in major events and responsibilities like weddings, funerals (including meals), Little Saints, Manna Kitchen, Trivia Night, and parish dinners; but also presenters for things like RCIA, the recent “Love Languages” series, or the Philosophy night on Mondays, or running FORMED.ORG – many thanks to all involved in such activities, and especially for the work you put in so enthusiastically.
There are people who have planned and executed our fund raisers like the PTO or offer advice like the members of School Advisory Committee or the Finance Committee or the Pastoral Council or the Arts and Environment group that decorates our church – what great gifts you have and are to the parish! And those who help with maintenance, with projects like getting the projector put in, with mowing lawns or fixing things that break or moving snow. All these things happen around here due to unseen, generous hands and feet and minds and hearts who make this such a special place. It is a joy to be the pastor of this parish, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity. Thanks to all!
Father Albert, O.S.B.

Stewardship-A Way of Life 3
Annual Catholic Appeal “The Community of Believers was of one heart and mind” Acts 4:32. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who have made a pledge to the Annual Catholic Appeal! St. Gregory’s donors have pledged over $25,000, which is 73% of our goal. It is not too late to consider a gift or pledge to the ACA. Envelopes are available in the Gathering Space, and no pledge or gift is too small!
Today’s readings are in stark contrast to the joy of the holiday season that is fast approaching, warning us instead of dark times ahead and our inevitable judgment day. The first reading from the prophet Daniel describes a time “unsurpassed in distress since nations began” and warns that “many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake; some shall live forever, and others shall be an everlasting horror and disgrace.” The second reading, from Hebrews, speaks of Christ who “waits until his enemies are made his footstool.” However, when we firmly establish for ourselves as individuals — as a family and as a parish that we will give to God the first and best portion of our Time, Talent, and Treasure — the warnings we read in the Scriptures today should be no cause for alarm. In fact, we can view these words as encouragement — “Keep Calm and Steward On,” no matter what comes our way.
Lectors Those people who proclaim God’s Word in the readings at Mass are called “Lectors” or “Readers.” Lectors take the time to read and study the Scripture ahead of time to know how to proclaim it so the listeners can truly hear the message.
Lectors may also lead the Congregation in the Responsorial Psalms and Prayer Intentions.
Thank you to all who truly serve the Church by being a Lector!
Fr. Aquinas will no longer say Mass on Mondays at 8am after the beginning of December, as his class schedule has changed. As I was editing our Google Calendar to reflect this, and beginning to call all those who had scheduled intentions on those Mondays, I accidently deleted all the intentions at once, preventing me from knowing who had scheduled each of them. If you have scheduled a Mass for someone on any of the following dates in 2019, please call the Parish Office and let me know, so I can move them for you: Feb 4, Mar 4, Mar 11, Apr 15, and Aug 26. I am sincerely sorry for this mistake, as I know it is an inconvenience. Thank you for understanding. Sincerely, Devin Reed, Secretary.

Thanks to all who have contributed. These funds will be used to replace the gym floor and air conditioners in the Multi-purpose Building as well as repair other parts of the facility.
You may still donate to this PTO fundraising event either online at bidpal.net/protectthenest or by sending in your check, made payable to St. Gregory PTO, along with a donation card from the Gathering Space. Special giving levels are detailed in the brochures at the back of the church. All donations are tax deductible.

TOYS FOR TOTS The 2nd graders are collecting items for Toys for
Tots as their big service project for the year. Please bring any NEW toys, books, crayons, games, dolls, or other items for children to receive this Christmas
to the collection barrel which is outside of the 2nd grade classroom. Please have all donated items in the barrel by Nov 30th, as the barrel
will be picked up that day. Thank You, St. Gregory's Second Grade Class
St. Cecelia (Kambree Davis) visited with the Little Saints. She loved music and is considered the patron saint of musicians.
St. Cecelia lived in the 1st century. Her family arranged for her to marry a pagan, who later converted to Christianity. After he was baptized, he was allowed to see the angel that protected Cecelia. Together they helped bury
Christians who were martyred for their faith. Because of this, they were also martyred. St. Cecelia, pray for us!
Little Saints will meet next on Wed, Nov 28th, at 6 PM.
We are so thankful for all our Little Saints! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
With holidays coming up there are many activities that will not meet: school, youth group, practices. Why? As
important as those activities are there is something critical about family time. Parents are the greatest teachers and most influential people in their children's lives and with everyone being so busy, we want to make sure that our family relationships do not suffer because we do not have time for them. I want to issue a challenge to all parents: As the holidays come and we have time off, make sure there is quality family time put into the holiday schedule. This might mean having time with no electronics, having a meal together with no TV, game nights or even going to each of your kids and having a very intentional conversation to see how they are doing beneath the surface and reminding them that they are loved and cared for no matter what.

Mark 13:24-32
Re!lect: Learn a lesson from the fig tree, when you see these things happening, he is near. Encountering Jesus:
“Learn a lesson from the fig tree.” What are we to learn? That the annu-al greening of the fig tree is a harbin-ger of new life arising out of seeming deadness. That the annual gospel prediction of apocalyptic destruction is a harbinger that Jesus “is near.” Indeed Jesus' promise that he will be near at the end of times is a promise already being fulfilled now. Life arising from deadness has already happened to Jesus. It is already happening in us.
