The Basin PS has been identified as being at high risk of bushfire for this season and as such is listed on the 2015-16 BARR. Our inclusion on the 2015-16 BARR means we will be required to close as a precautionary measure on days determined to be CODE RED by the Emergency Management Commissioner in the Bureau of Meteorology dis- trict in which we are located. This will enable us to inform our school community with certainty about what will happen on Code Red days. The weather was just beautiful and the children were enjoying the after activity dip in the camps swimming pool at the end of the day. CODE RED DAYS

The Department of Education and Training works in partnership with the

Victorian Government, emergency services, staff and local communities

to ensure that all early childhood services and schools are as prepared

as possible for the 2015-16 bushfire season. The Basin PS has been

identified as being at high risk of bushfire for this season and as such

is listed on the 2015-16 BARR.

Our inclusion on the 2015-16 BARR means we will be required to close

as a precautionary measure on days determined to be CODE RED by the

Emergency Management Commissioner in the Bureau of Meteorology dis-

trict in which we are located. This will enable us to inform our school

community with certainty about what will happen on Code Red days. All

Government, Catholic and independent schools as well as early childhood

services listed on the BARR will have to pre-emptively close on days de-

termined Code Red.

MORE INFORMATION WILL BE SENT HOME SHORTLY AS WE RE-

CEIVE IT.

CAMPS

Yesterday I visited the Grade 5/6 campers who were having a great

time. At lunch I spoke to most campers who shared their best activity

with me. The popular responses were mostly Horse Riding, the Giant

Swing, the Flying Fox and Canoeing. All were enjoying the food – lunch

yesterday was wraps with a variety of fillings. The weather was just

beautiful and the children were enjoying the after activity dip in the

camps swimming pool at the end of the day.

WATER SUPPLY

Yesterday SE Water had another supply fault with the previously fixed

joint on Miller Road giving away again. Luckily we heard about this fault

early and were able to report this to the Emergency Management person

at the Departments Eastern Regional office who provided us the advice

we followed. Thankyou to those parents who were able to bring their

children to school when the water supply was reinstated at 10:30am.

TREES AND PORTABLE

Yesterday trees were cleared between the driveway and the Grade 1/2 building in preparation for

the installation of a double portable arriving in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully now the portable

fence will be removed and our valuable parking spaces available again for parents.

UPGRADE ARCHITECTS

Following the acceptance by the Education Department of our priorities, three architectural compa-

nies have been appointed to visit our school over the next week to speak with us prior to their devel-

opment of upgrade drawings. It also provides us an opportunity to meet them as the next stage in-

volves us selecting the one with the best plan.

REMEMBRANCE DAY THANKS AND POPPY SALE

Thank you to all the staff and students who marked Remembrance Day with the appropriate level of

respect last week and for the many people who wore and purchased poppies to support our fallen sol-

diers and their families.

WORLD ISSUES

Unfortunately there will be some students who would have been exposed to the events which took

place in Paris last weekend. Whilst general advice when an event like this takes place suggests

to emphasize how far away the events were and that we are very safe, the Education Depart-

ment provides the additional advice:

• It is wise for you to monitor your child’s exposure to television coverage, print media and social

media.

• Some children will want to talk about the tragic events and try to make sense of what they

have seen and heard; other children will avoid any discussion around the events and will be reassured

by routine and normality.

• Remember the importance of routine, sleep, exercise and healthy eating.

In difficult times, it is worth remembering what adults and children need most are each other. To

further assist you at home you may find the advice of parenting educator Michael Grose @ https://

goo.gl/EMAiuC helpful.
