Chairman's MessageThis will be my last chairman’s message for API Delta Section. It has been a wonderful experience leading this organization for the past two years. I feel we have made much progress with the organization including reinstating the teacher of the year program, making progress with the area children’s museums to create petroleum related exhibits that will inspire our children, providing scholarships to deserving students, arranging informative luncheonpresentations, updating the website, increasing sponsorship, re-staffi ng our

board, putting on successful golf and clay shoot tournaments, and supporting many other worthwhilecauses.

I want to thank all the members of the board for their hard work for the past two years. Certainly none of our accomplishments could have been made without their efforts. I especially want to thank Peggy Bourgeoisfor everything she has done for the API Delta Section for the past ten years. She has done so much for this organization. She has changed industries and we wish her great luck in all her future endeavors. I alsowant to thank Bob Bailey who has chaired the Sporting Clay Shoot for many years. He has earned a restfrom the arduous task of putting on this event year after year.

Looking forward to 2015, I will still be working on some of API Delta Section’s goals. I intend to chair acommittee that is working on our Petroleum Industry Promoting Education “PIPE” initiative to support the area childrens museums. We are planning events, that in addition to raising funds, will allow for cross-discipline networking within our industry and demonstrate to the community how many locals are involved in the petroleum industry. We expect our signature event to be a family event at City Park planned for May 23, 2015 (details to come).

I leave the organization in the capable hands of Barney Paternostro. I expect to continue to work with theAPI board to follow Barney’s direction. I am certain he will do an excellent job as chairman. If you wouldlike to get more involved in API there are many opportunities and we welcome the help. If you want to get involved, you can put in as much or as little time as you desire, but I am sure that once you start, you will want to do more with this fi ne organization.

SPE-Delta Spreads the Word

The Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair (GNOSEF) host an annual teacher workshop and kick-off event every September to help teachers gear up for the season and theevent. Once again, SPE-Delta helped to sponsor the luncheon for the event and joined with other societies in spreading the news about the industry and the many ways we help support education

This year’s event was held September 6, 2014 in the UNO Engineering Auditorium. Six societies participated in the event and spoke with teachers about their society, discipline, and offerings provided by their society such as scholarships, class room presentations, etc. Society volunteers emphasized specific areas/problems/concerns that students may want to investigate as a means of stimulating projects in the energy area. Much appreciation to our presenters: Victor Vaca – SPE YP, Art Johnson – NOGS. Tom Bergeon – NOGS, Bill Brock – ISA, Wayne Bridgeman – AADE, Jabreel Walker – NSBE, Jessica Watts – SWE, and Jan Catalano – API/SPE.

Thirty three teachers attended the event, including teachers from 13 new schools that have not previously participated in the GNOSEF. The attendance doubled in number from last year. As a result of our effort and involvement, the science fair has incorporated an Energy division for BOTH the junior and senior divisions.

The GNOSEF will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and

Thursday, Feb. 24th – 26th, 2015. Schools will be holding their individual science fairs starting in November. As always, volunteers to help judge are always welcome. For more information please see http://gnosef.tulane.edu/index.html.

Also, please keep in mind the 2014 First Lego League (FLL) Regional Championship will be held at Holy Cross High School on Saturday, December 6th. This competition provides students ages 9-14 a basic introduction to programming, problem solving, research and teamwork. Volunteers for this event are also welcome.

2014 Golf TournamentCovington Country Club was the site of the 2014 API Delta Chapter Golf tournament. The tournament washeld on September 19th and hosted 184 golfers (total morning and afternoon rounds). The weather wasperfect for both rounds which made for a great day of golf. Thanks to our many food and beverage sponsors, who provided plenty of cool beverages and delicious hot food and snacks to make this an enjoyable event. The API Golf Committee sincerely thanks everyone involved in helping make the 2014 API Delta Chapter Golf Tournament a success!

Through the generosity of all the corporate, team and hole sponsors we were able to raise just over $20,000 dollars. The proceeds will be used for our scholarship program, teacher mini- grants, the Louisiana Children’s Museum, and the other opportunities to promote education and the Petroleum Industry in the Greater New Orleans area. We could not have achieved this without you and we truly thank you for your support!!!

We hope to see you all at next year’s 2015 API Delta Chapter Golf Tournament.

2014 API DELTA TECHNICAL LUNCHEONPresented by

CHARLOTTE BATSONCharlo e Batson, Petroleum Engineer, owner of Batson & Company was our guest speaker for theTechnical Luncheon held on August 12, 2014 at Le Pavilion Hotel in New Orleans. Charlo e deliveredan excellent presenta on that contained a wealth of knowledge on the shale plays in Louisiana – theHayneville Shale and the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale.

In her presenta on, she showcased how Louisiana is in an unparalleled economic posi on because of the two shale plays and our exis ng infrastructure. The Haynesville is producing dry natural gas, the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale (TMS) is in its infant stages and promises to be a major producer of sweet, light crude oil. Louisiana has excellent resources fortranspor ng oil and gas, as well as the refi ning capabili es within close proximity – this all paints a promising future for the oil and gas industry in Louisiana. To simplify it: ABUNDANT NATURAL GAS + ABUNDANT CRUDE OIL + EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE = APOWERFUL COMBINATION. “Louisiana has a perfect storm of factors working together – upstream, midstream and downstream,” Charlo e stated.

Charlo e spends much of her me working with oil and gas companies to educate the communityleaders that are against drilling and fracking. She said there are four things she tells her clients that theopponents need to prove to win: this is a new process, this is an untested process, this is an unprovenprocess, and this is an unregulated process.

One of the ques ons she said she always hears is “How long will the TMS last?” She quoted an oilexecu ve sta ng “Nobody in this room will live long enough to see it play out.”

Charlo e Batson owns Batson & Company, and she is also the Co-Founderof Tuscaloosa Energy Services. She works with vendors and suppliers that are new to the oil and gas industry to provide basic informa on and educatethem on how to get started in the industry. She also works with vendors and suppliers that have been in the industry for some me but are seeking hard to reach resources and consults them on strategic planning for projects inthe infancy stages.

Charlo e is passionate about working with communi es, whether it bepublic or economic development sectors, on being prepared and ready to maximize the economic benefi ts from the oil and gas industry. Lastly, shehelps oil and gas companies reach out to business communi es to be er educate them on the industry.

If you would like to hear more about Charlo e’s presenta on or speak to her about the services hercompanies off er, please contact her at charlo [email protected], www.linkedin.com/in/charlo ebatsonor visit the Tuscaloosa Energy Services website at tuscaloosaenergyservices.com.
