2014 Marshfield Iron Chef CompetitionThe 6th annual Marshfield Iron Chef Competition engages area chefs in a friendly cook-off while raising money for Shirley’s House of Hope, a shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence. Everyone is encouraged to purchase their tickets early, as they sold out two weeks before the event last year.

Guests will watch as chefs face off in a culinary contest. Competing chefs are Chef Ron of The Vintage House, Chef Mauvice of C& M Crossroads, Chef Wally of Hotel Marshfield, and Chef Ted for Blue Heron Brew Pub/West 14th. Judges are Rick Gramza, Steve Barg and Lisa Kegler.

One change this year is that the guests will sample soup from each competing chef and vote for their favorite soup, with an award for the winning chef. They have been looking for a way to include the guests in the judging.

In addition to sampling and voting on the chef-prepared soups, guests will be served a full meal prepared by Steve Tollers, winner of previous Iron Chef competitions.

The Marshfield Iron Chef Competition, complete with silent and live auctions, will be held on Thursday, Novem-ber 6, from 5:30 to 8:00 pm, at RiverEdge Golf Course. Tickets are $50 per person in advance or $60 per person at the door. Tickets may also be pruchased for $320 for a table of eight. Tickets are available at the restaurants of all participating chefs as well as Festival Foods and MACCI.

On October 1st, Shirley’s House of Hope celebrated four years. In those four years, over 200 clients have been served, with the need increasing each year. Shirley’s House of Hope offers three distinct services: Rebuild, Re-new, and Restore. The Rebuild Services are emergency services. Women who already have a healthy support system can stay up to three weeks while they find a safe place to stay and get their feet on the ground.

Renew Services is a six-month healing program with classes, counseling and case management. The Restore Pro-gram consists of transitional services for women with children.

Tribute for Theatre Director Greg Rindfleisch scheduled for November 1 The founding director of the Campus Community Players at the University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood Coun-ty will be honored at a special program on Saturday, November 1 at 4 p.m. in the Helen Connor Laird Theater at UW-Marshfield/Wood County.

Emeritus Professor of Communication and Theater Arts Greg Rindfleisch, who produced, designed and directed nearly 200 major theater productions during his 35 year tenure at the Campus, will be toasted (and most likely roasted) by many of his former students and community members who were active theater participants from 1966-2001. The program will consist of several anecdotal speeches, selected readings of dramatic literature, and songs from musical theater, in addition to the unveiling of a specially commissioned work of art which will be placed in the lobby of the Helen Conner Laird Fine Arts Building to celebrate the myriad of theater productions staged by the Campus Community Players under the artistic leadership of Greg Rindfleisch.

This tribute event is free with general seating, no tickets are necessary. It’s presented by UW-Marshfield/Wood County Campus as part of its 50th Anniversary celebrations. The program is sponsored and underwritten as well by the Marshfield Area Community Foundation which manages the Greg and Sally Rindfleisch Performing Arts Endowment Fund. For more information visit marshfield.uwc.edu/community/50th or call 715-389-6530.

Remember to “Buy Local” Throughout the Holidays As the 2014 holiday season approaches, the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s gift certifi-cate program is the perfect example of how we can all keep business local. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in MACCI gift certificates are sold annually. These dollars are recycled throughout the community several times, providing jobs and increased profits for our local businesses. Remember these companies are the ones who sup-port local churches, the arts, schools, children’s activities, and the list goes on and on.

Please remember to BUY LOCAL before you buy out of town. You will be pleasantly surprised at what you will find right here in Marshfield.

The Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry is open Monday-Friday, from 8 am - 5 pm to serve you. We are located at 700 South Central Avenue. For your convenience, many Marshfield financial institutions also sell the MACCI gift certificates.

Purchase MACCI gift certificates throughout the year and keep your business local!

Here we grow again! The Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry, along with City officials, MACCI Board members and Ambassadors, have been busy promoting growth in our community the past several weeks with five ribbon cuttings. MACCI was pleased to be a part of ceremonies for Pioneer Bank, The Outpost Recreational Sales & Service, Westland Insurance, AgSource Laboratories, and The Hannah Center. Congratulations!

Pioneer Bank is a premier, locally owned community bank head-quartered in Auburndale, Wisconsin, founded in 1910. From diverse lending solutions to a variety of deposit and investment accounts and the latest technology, they work continuously to maximize value for their customers. The bank has established a full service network with eight branches in seven central Wisconsin communities. On Monday, September 29th, they were very proud to present their newest, updated Marshfield North Branch, located at 1700 North Central Avenue in Marshfield.

In August, The Outpost Recreational Sales and Service opened its doors for business. The business occupies the former PCO building located at 2515 West Veterans Parkway (North on Highway 13) in Marshfield. The Outpost offers service for recreational vehicles, campers and motorsports; including snowmobiles, motorcy-cles and ATV’s. Owner Shawn Gaffney has been in this service industry for over thirteen years and looks forward to helping customers maintain their recreational vehicles, campers, and motorsports. For parts, service and accessories or recreational vehicle winterizing, give them a call at (715) 898-1260. They hope to expand in the future to include a propane filling station and eventually, add an experienced mechanic to service boats.

Westland Insurance Services, a full service indepen-dent agency with 14 offices throughout Wisconsin, has been part of the Marshfield community for over 35 years, serving the insurance needs of individuals, families, businesses and groups. Early October, Westland Insurance Services relo-cated to 1700 North Central Avenue (inside the new Pioneer Bank), Marshfield. This Marshfield location staff consists of two Agents and two Account Managers with nearly 100 years of combined insurance experience. Westland employ-ees live and work in the areas they serve, and therefore be-lieve that community involvement is essential to the success of their organization and their valued customers. The Marshfield staff has and is participating in such organizations as Toys 4 Tots, Soup or Socks, United Way, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Shirley’s House of Hope, The Hannah Center, Children’s Miracle Network and others.

MACCI Ribbon Cuttings Continue. . . AgSource Laboratories, located at 3700 Downwind Drive in Marshfield cut the ribbon to their facility on October 3rd. Following the ceremony tours were given of the laboratory. For over 50 years, Ag Source Laboratories has been providing ac-curate results and superior cutomer service. Now located in Marshfield, AgSource Laboratories specializes in food, water, environmental, and milk testing services. Whether it is a nutritional label analysis or a rapid pathogen test, AgSource delivers the data you need with the the respect you deserve. Testing services commenced in the new building in June and they have been settling in ever since then. The transi-tion to Marshfield was made easy thanks to the help of many great employees.

The Hannah Center opened her doors on June 1, 1993. The primary purpose has been, to provide options for a pregnant woman who can no longer remain in her home environment. They have since expanded their vision to help ANY woman in crisis, pregnant or not. Over 200 women of many backgrounds and walks of life have called The Hannah Center their home. Late in De-cember of 1992, a Marshfield family gave a most generous monetary gift to those who held the dream of what was to become The Hannah Center. The directive was to set up a house where a pregnant woman could come to find refuge, shelter, have a chance for respite, look at her life, and make plans for her future. With much favor and financial support the local Saint Vincent de Paul Society enabled the Hannah Center to purchase its home on the corner of 3rd Street and Cedar.

VOX Concert Series Presents Una Sessions

The Vox Concert Series presents a music festival and fundraising event called the Una Sessions that will take place on November 13-15 at Wildwood Station Pavilion. Over the past decade the Vox Concert Series has worked to create a space where people within the community can experience live music, not just hear it. The original idea behind the concert series? Create a room within the community that could transform to host rock bands, blues, bluegrass, jazz, singer/songwriters, classical music, kids shows and even comedy acts!

The sessions pull their unique name from the Latin work meaning “together” with the goal of bringing musicians and community together for a common cause… to perform and enjoy the artistry of a live music performance. Funds raised by this event will be invested toward securing a permanent venue for the Vox Concert Series and toward a memorial scholarship that has been estab-lished to fund the education of students that display a passion for the performing arts to assist with paying for their education.

Doors for each event will open at 7:00 p.m. with music starting nightly at 8:00 p.m.

Advance tickets for individual events will be go on sale September 9 through end of day on November 9. Reserved Table Seat-ing will be available for $50 and General Admission Seating for $40 per person per day. Starting November 10, any remaining Reserved Table Seats will be available for $60 and General Admission for $50.

The Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center of Marshfield presents Vox Concert Series guests an easy lodging option!
