Feast of Christ the King
Readings
2 Samuel 5:1-3 Colossians 1:12-20 Luke 23:35-43
Gospel
The rulers sneered at Jesus and said, “He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God.” Even the soldiers jeered at him. As they approached to offer him wine they called out, “If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.” Above him there was an inscription that read, “This is the King of the Jews.” Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us.” The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply, “Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” He replied to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
1. On this Feast of Christ the King of the Universe, why do you think the Church would choose for us to read and meditate on Jesus’ crucifixion?
2. Christ chose His path in His earthly life, right up to the cross. What path have you chosen? What path do you follow? How far will you follow and stay on the path? Will it be the same path as Christ?
3. How do you see Christ as a King when reflecting on these two statements? “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself.” “This is the King of the Jews.” Would not a “True King” give His life for others and for His kingdom?
4. What have you encountered to show that the Kingship of Christ is present in your life? Where do you see the face of “Christ the King” in the world? How can you best serve this King?
Even now our King stands ready, not to save Himself, but to always save us.

Advent Penance Services in our area
Would you shake hands with this gentleman? It’s pretty obvious, but you may not know that the person sitting next to you is also carrying the flu bug. Our culture teaches us to shake hands in greeting, and during Mass we set aside a time to do just that. However, during flu season, please refrain from shaking hands during the Sign of Peace.

Deacon Bob Esposito, 80, passed away peacefully from this earthly life on Friday, November 8. He was born in the Bronx, New York and was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate in the Archdiocese of NY in 1979. Deacon Bob worked as a school principal for children with special needs for most of his life. He also taught at the College level as an adjunct Professor for over 20 years and then retired from the city schools to fulfilled his dream of being a school principal of a Catholic School in White Plains, NY. Married to the love of his life, Ann Cafarelli, Deacon Bob was blessed with 58 wonderful years of marriage which brought them 3 children and 8 grandchildren. He loved Jesus, loved his family, and was proud of his Italian heritage. He truly lived his life with his priorities in order of Faith, Family, Friends and Career.
Soon after St. Mark the Evangelist’s 2005 Mass of Thanksgiving and Blessing, Deacon Bob was brought in as a Pastoral Associate to help Fr. Simon Shaner and Fr. Sebastian Hanks. In 2009, Deacon Bob, Deacon John Rumplasch, and their wives, traveled to Lourdes, France and Rome, Italy for a prayerful and meditative journey which sparked the creation of our Lady of Lourdes Grotto. His dream came to fruition with the dedication of Our Lady of Lourdes Prayer Garden on February 10, 2019. Wake services were on Friday, November 15 here at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, followed by a Prayer Service. Hundreds of people came to pay their respects. Funeral Mass was celebrated on November 16 by Bishop John Noonan, Fr. Ed Waters, Fr. Rafal, Fr. Dominik, Fr. Lou, Fr. Mariusz, Fr. Tadeusz, Fr. Bob Fucheck, Fr. Gerry Cunningham (St. Timothy) and 7 deacons. The church was filled with 500 people during the Funeral Mass and 300 attended the reception following. Their attendance is an outward sign of the impact Deacon Bob had on the St. Mark Catholic community. He will be greatly missed.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

Christmas Evangelization
What better gift can we give to the Savior this Christmas than to bring a friend to Him? We may not be
taking our family and friends on a Journey to Bethlehem during the Christmas season, but here are few
ways that we can make the trip in Spirit.
• Invite them to the
Advent/Christmas Concert
on December 6 at 5:00 PM.
• Invite them to the
Parish Advent Mission
on December 9, 10, and 11
at 5:00 PM.
• Invite them to Christmas
Mass—there are several times
to choose from.
• If you are having Christmas
guests, why not say a special
Christmas grace before eating,
especially on Christmas Day when
we celebrate Christ’s birth?

Pick-up will be the weekend of December 7-8
in the Social Hall before and after each Mass.
Many enter and leave church through side doors every week.
However, if you enter through the narthex, you’ll be greeted by
more than an usher. The statues of Jesus and His Sacred Heart,
the Resurrected Jesus, and our Blessed Mother are waiting to
remind you of their love and compassion.
Banners are displayed at the interior doors. There is information
on the side counters that you may take with you and fliers on the
walls with dates and times of events in the near future. Our
Lighthouse Sales Rack with books and free Care Cards offer
reading materials for yourself or to share with others.
And, of course, if you never exit through the narthex, you may
miss some of the wonderful opportunities to support our parish,
buy tickets to fun events, or purchase items you’ll treasure.
So once in a while consider using the front doors to the narthex
to enter and exit the church. You might be glad you did!

The service will unite family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren who left too soon.
As candles are lit at 7:00 PM local time, hundreds of thousands of persons will commemorate and honor the memory of all the children gone too soon. This lighting service started in the United States in 1997 as a small internet observance. It has since swelled in numbers going around the world through 7 time zones over the 24-hour period. Join with others throughout the world in the remembrance of children who have died but will never be forgotten.
For questions, contact Rosemary DeRosa at 352/259-4809.
Saturday, November 30, is a special day!
The Little Blue Advent Books will be available in the narthex. (One per family please.)
Polish Christmas Wafers (Oplatek) will also be available in the narthex for $2/pack.
Knights of Columbus will sell Christmas car magnets and yard signs. Look for the ad on the page 8 for more info.

In the sacred Host, Jesus is present, the true treasure, always waiting for us. Only by adoring this Presence do we learn how to receive Him properly. Do you have time to visit the Chapel Tuesday mornings and spend some time with Our Lord.? He is waiting for you.
Adoration begins after 8:30 AM Mass until 12:00 Noon.
It has been brought to our attention that a number of vehicles illegally park in the handicap spaces with white stripes. An example of the space is identified in the image below.
These areas are made specifically for mobility vans. The van is able to park in the blue, handicap parking spot, while the hash marks provide the 6 feet of extra space necessary for the van to deploy a ramp and allow room for the passenger to exit.
We ask that you be considerate of those requiring the extra space and AVOID PARKING in this area. Thank you for thinking of your fellow parishioners.
There have been occasions when individuals hang about the Church grounds asking for help. While we as Christ’s followers want to assist those in need, we ask that you please refrain from giving cash to anyone who is loitering on the grounds.
Our ushers have information they can give these people to assist them in getting food or financial assistance.
We do not want to encourage those who are just looking for a handout and not in real need of assistance to look upon St. Mark as an “easy target.”
Anyone truly in need will be able to receive help from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul or St. Theresa’s Food Pantry.
Thank you for your cooperation!

If you are hospitalized here at
The Villages Hospital, please remember:
When you are in the hospital, let Admitting know that you are a Catholic and would like to be on the list for Visitation and Communion.
If your condition changes and you want an Anointing, St. Timothy will send a priest. If you want a Clergy from St. Mark for Anointing, call our office to schedule.
The Villages Hospital is served by all three Parishes for Communion:
• St. Mark goes Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays
• St. Vincent de Paul goes Mondays
• St. Timothy goes Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays

Joan Crayton Have you remembered
your church in your will?
It’s an excellent way for you to support St. Mark
The Evangelist. Leave a bequest in your
will or living trust.
How better to be remembered than with
this lasting legacy.
Moving? Returning from your summer home?
Don’t forget to notify the Parish Office of your new address
or that you need to re-start your envelopes.
Thank You!!
