President's Message Charlene Ackerman This was quite a season of gardening experiences! Mother Nature dealt us an array of everything from too much rain, too cold, too hot, too many mosquitoes, to an October that made it feel like summer again! It is my assumption,that she has developed "Attention Deficit Disorder!"

We are still enjoying roses blooming, calladium bulbs growing, and many of our annuals are still going strong. The fall foliage display has not been as exciting this year as in the past; even up in Door County Wisconsin, due to the lack of rain since July. Well, at least we have avoided so much of the trauma that has hit our planet, with earthquakes, fires, hurricanes, and the severe floods in Texas.

We had an excursion to Pesche's, and a wonderful trip to the historic Garden at The House of The Four Winds, followed by dinner at The Silo.

Thanks to all the folks who served as volunteers at the Garden Show, and to Lee Jashelski for arranging the monthly snacks at our meetings. This month marks our last official meeting at the Botanic Gardens until we resume in April.

Our annual banquet invite will be distributed at the November meeting. If you do not attend, it will be posted in the final Garden Pants issue next month. Be sure to respond in a timely manner, and send your reservation and check to Heddi. Last year's event was so filled with laughter and happy people winning great prizes. Unfortunately, there will not be a "W" flag amongst the raffle prizes; Poor Cubbies! Try to print the attached letter, if you do not have one, requesting a donation, and obtain one or two give-aways so that everyone goes home with something they bid on. David Levine, our President-elect, and Gerry Palmer, past Co-President, will again favor us with their raffle bidding expertise!

It has been an exercise of durability serving as your Co-President for the past four years. We

look forward to seeing you at the November meeting for your approval of the newly nominated members. Enjoy what is left of putting your gardens to sleep.

Annual Banquet We are going to do the raffle again at the annual banquet on December 5th. Last year we got many gifts from local businesses for this.

At the last page of this newsletter is a letter (composed by Gerry Palmer and Charlene Ackerman) for you to give to local businesses when asking for a donation.

These donations are not tax deductible. We are a non profit organization, but not a charity. We do not give the money from the raffle to a charity. It goes into the Gardeners of the North Shore treasury. When you get a donation, send an e-mail to Charlene (charleneackerman@comcast.net) and tell her where it is from. _________________________________
