Recently, Year five student, Hayley T presented me with a delightful poem that she wrote conveying her thoughts about Newtown State School. It was my pleasure to share it on parade and it has been included below for you to enjoy. Warm Regards Tania Angus Principal.

Newtown State School

Newtown State School

Is a wonderful place

It’s full of fun

joy and grace.

The kids will learn

With their brains

As smartness runs

through their veins.

The kids are smart

They try their best

And in PE

they’re full of zest.

Our flowers bloom

Our kids are great

And at this school

you’re a mate.

STATE EDUCATION WEEK – WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY! This week is State Education Week; a week to celebrate everything great about State Schools. Part of State Education Week is World Teachers’ Day which will take place this Friday. It is a day to acknowledge and thank all of our teaching staff for the outstanding job they do in caring for the well-being and learning of our students. Every day, I’m in awe of the enthusiasm, professionalism and care demonstrated by our teachers for our students (and their families) and appreciate all that is done, above and beyond to advocate for their best interests.

FUN AT CAMP! Last week, our Year Five and Six students attended their respective camps at Emu Gully Adventure Park and Tallebudgera Recreation Centre. It was thoroughly enjoyable to spend time with these students as they experienced a range of activities designed to develop resilience in challenging themselves beyond their comfort zone. The students shone as they persevered when it got tough, learned to encourage each other and communicate as a team, and to celebrate triumphs over fear! Such great skills for lifelong learning! Many thanks to the staff who attended the camps as it is only through their willingness (and that of their families who support them) to give freely of their time, that we are able to offer these opportunities to our students. WALK TOGETHER

Thanks to those students and families who were able to join us for the Walk Together walk on Saturday and to members of the choir who joined with other school groups to perform. This event is about demonstrating a warm welcome to any newcomers to our region and to show acceptance and appreciation of diversity, hence it is fitting that Newtown State School, with our beautifully diverse population, participate in this event. DAY FOR DANIEL The Day for Daniel, held on the 26 October, is a National Day of Action to raise awareness of child safety, protection and harm prevention. Its focus is to educate children and adults about keeping kids safe through child safety and protection initiatives. It aims to help empower our children to ‘Recognise, React and Report’ if they feel something is not right. Day for Daniel is an opportunity to have a conversation about who the people are in your children’s lives that they can go to for support if they need it.

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY This Sunday is Grandparents Day, a wonderful opportunity for grandchildren to thank their grandparents for their love and support. At Newtown State School, we recognise the contribution that grandparents make to the lives of our students; bringing them to school on time, helping out in classrooms with reading and volunteering in the tuckshop. If you’re fortunate to have a grandparent/s in your life please take a moment to show them how much you appreciate them and all that they do for you. SPELLATHON IS ON NOW! Use the strategy that works best for you to help you practice!

Positive Behaviour for Learning News

This week the SWPBS lesson focus is learners

are respectful and safe in classrooms by:

• Staying in your seat and be seated correctly

• Gain permission to leave the classroom

• Enter and exit room quickly and quietly

This could be promoted at home by discussing and

encouraging road safety behaviours while travelling

to and from school.

Dear Parents and Carers

On Wednesday 31 st October (Week 4 this term), we will be doing something called

“Troublish Rubbish”. This is a rubbish free lunch ; so bring things that

don’t have rubbish, like: • ziplock bags • paper bags • lunch boxes

We would love it if you did put your sandwiches in paper bags, lunch boxes and ziplock bags. We have been working on this and we have

Greta the Golden Gnome waiting to be held in the winning class’s hands.

Who will that class be this time??

Year 6 Tallebudgera Camp, 15-19 October:

A time to learn to grow up!!!!

Last week some of the Year 6 students went

to Tallebudgera Recreation Centre for a

week of fun and tough activities that we

needed to use our brains for. Some

activities would get us out of our comfort

zone and push us to our limits.

While I was at Tallebudgera I did some

activities that I had never done before, like

stand-up paddle boarding, abseiling, quick

jump, kayaking, building catapaults,

bouldering, giant swing and we had to build

a raft from pool materials.

I really enjoyed camp and would love to go

again! Mackenzie T

Last week at camp we did lots of exciting

and daring activities and many activities

involving heights. I personally have

conquered my fear of heights and have a

larger comfort zone! Camp was great!

Billy R

I would definitely recommend going to the

Tallebudgera Camp as the instructors were

very nice and always tried to help. Before I

went to camp I was terrified of heights and

now I am more confident and will try them

all!

Imagen M

The Giant Swing was the most memorable

activity for me as I was totally terrified and

absolutely speechless doing it.

Jakarah B

Last week, we, the year 6 students emerged

from camp as new people!

We are now more courageous, braver and

more prepared to take risks than before.

Thank you for allowing us to have this

opportunity!
