NPs: Moving Mountains IN HEALTH CARE

Dear American Association of Nurse Practitioners Attendees: The Mile High City is honored to host the AANP 2018 National

Conference! We invite you to explore our city and experience all that it has to offer during your stay. From seven pro sports teams to the nation’s second largest performing arts complex and the mile-long 16th Street Mall to our many museums and cultural facilities, Denver is filled with attractions to entertain you. Our many neighborhoods like Cherry Creek, Highlands, LoDo, Uptown, Five Points, Golden Triangle and Old South Pearl are filled with outstanding restaurants and one-of-a-kind shops, while after dark, Denver is a center for live music. Whether you visit one of our parks like Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre or borrow a B-cycle and take a bike ride on our 85 miles of off- street bike paths, you’ll find that Denver has 300 days of bright sunshine a year. At an elevation of 5,280 feet above sea level, Denver is truly a mile high… and climbing. Have a wonderful 2017 conference and we look forward hosting you all next year! Sincerely,

Michael B. Hancock Mayor

NPs: Moving Mountains IN HEALTH CARE

It is my great pleasure to invite you to join your colleagues in Denver, June 26 – July 1 for the AANP 2018 National Conference. We know you have come to expect great things from AANP and this conference will not disappoint.

The 2018 theme, NPs Moving Mountains in Health Care, is integrated throughout the conference schedule. Our opening general session keynote speaker, Rear Admiral Susan Orsega, Assistant Surgeon General and Chief Nurse Officer with the U. S. Public Health Service, brings her perspective on how NPs contribute to the culture of practice in the changing health care landscape. Rear Admiral Orsega has been instrumental in moving mountains in health care through her pioneering roles in global health diplomacy, her unique clinical insights and advocacy experiences in government, education and public service.

The 2018 Conference closing keynote speaker is Kevin Smith, DNP, FNP, FAANP. Dr. Smith is chief clinical officer at Zipnosis, a virtual care software and technology company. From helping to develop QuickMedx (which became MinuteClinic) and serving in leadership roles contributing to EHR design, Dr. Smith has been moving mountains in health care for years - transforming patients from passive to savvy health care consumers. In his current role Dr. Smith continues to impact health care by providing strategic leadership in the development and implementation of evidence-based clinical guidelines for virtual care services and clinical informatics.

A few of the changes for this year’s schedule include:

• Earn up to 40 contact hours of CE (includes all sessions Tuesday through Sunday)

• More groups of concurrent sessions each day;

• Concurrent sessions are 60 minutes rather than 75 minutes;

• A Tuesday night “Welcome to the AANP 2018 Conference” reception (in previous years this was a first time attendee reception but will be a welcome reception for all this year)

• Exhibit Hall Grand Opening is Thursday afternoon rather than morning

• Opening General Session is scheduled for Wednesday from 10:00 – 10:45am with the keynote address presented by Rear Admiral Susan Orsega

• Annual Membership Meeting immediately follows Opening General Session and is scheduled for 10:45 – 11:30am on Wednesday

If you are not a current member of AANP, consider joining to take advantage of the many programs and services that we offer our members year round. AANP members also receive generous discounts on a variety of activities such as a discount to the national conference.

Take time now to register for our 2018 conference. This is one conference you won’t want to miss. I look forward to seeing you in Denver this summer.

Joyce Knestrick President, AANP Board of Directors
