Shelton Liddell President

Candidate’s Platform During the past 7 years, I have been a proud member of the NSBE Washington DC Professionals Chapter. During my leadership tenure in NSBE DC, I have sought to provide member-oriented programs promoting active involvement in the community and to equip individuals (from kindergarten to professional) with the skills to become the next generation of successful engineers. I have also done my best to support the chapter in keeping the finances stable, developing and sustaining corporate and community relationships, and engaging with the membership to ensure a family atmosphere. I wish to now continue the work I've done for NSBE DC as President. I possess the drive, the knowledge, and the relationships necessary to build upon the illustrious history of this chapter. We have obtained great success in awards received and partnerships developed due to the success of our programs, including this year's recognition as Region 2 Professional Development Chapter of the Year. However, we still have much more to accomplish. • I would like for more involvement of our membership in all our committees and meetings. While offering stellar development for our professional members, we need to revamp our efforts toward the development of precollege and college students in the DC Metro Area. • We also need to optimize bookkeeping, budgeting and the development of new financial opportunities for the chapter. The process must be cleaner, our programming less wasteful, and our fundraising more forward thinking. • We need to take full advantage of all our communication mediums and ensure we are well known as leaders in STEM. We must continue to strive to provide our membership the information they need most and in as clean and captivating a manner as possible. I feel that we, as a chapter, can meet these and several other challenges and in the process maintain our status as the best NSBE chapter on the planet. Not based on awards, nor on membership numbers, but on the impact we make in helping each other attain our dreams as well as help young people throughout the DMV pursue theirs. Leadership/Resume

Jourdan Walls Secretary

Candidate’s Platform Around the same time I dropped out of computer science, a friend encouraged me to join NSBE and work for SEEK to mentor kids on the importance of science. While I taught the students, they inspired me not to give up on my STEM career. In my last year of college, I took technology courses and networked at NSBE conferences to mold my post-graduate path back to STEM. To make a long story short, I am here with an MS in Information Science, working as a technology analyst, hoping to be your 2016-2017 Secretary. As someone who almost slipped through the cracks, the most important part of being in this organization is "reaching the unreached." To "increase the number of culturally responsible engineers" is to reach those who do not think STEM is for them, those who might not be engineers but support the mission, and those who will share opportunities with their community. As Secretary of NSBE DC, it is my responsibility to communicate to our audience and beyond by strengthening media presence and making information easily accessible. Accomplishing these tasks will involve taking feedback on current communication methods. Offering e-surveys and a suggestion box to NSBE DC will help develop best practices for relaying information -- what information should be shared, when are the best times to send information, and how should that information be presented. I also intend to improve our existing marketing plans to ensure updates are announced efficiently and effectively via our community partners and online platforms. As seen on my resume, I have years of administrative and recruiting experience that has honed my written and verbal communication skills. I have also been serving as the NSBE DC Social Media Lead, where I have been able to find ways to increase our online exposure. Since starting my position, NSBE DC has over 100 more followers across our social platforms. Everyday, I am excited to try new ways to cater to our audience. Given the opportunity to be your secretary, I hope to dedicate my efforts to further our reach in the DC community. Leadership/Resume

Salim Adofo Publications/Public Relations Chairperson

Candidate’s Platform I have been a member of NSBE DC for 1 year and have attended many events over the past several years. I find that NSBE DC has helped me to grow from a personal and professional standpoint and I would like to do my part to pay this forward. I currently serve on the public relation committee. During my tenure on the committee I have been able to help promote the organization by producing a TV show that featured NSBE on Fairfax TV. The episode aired in Northern VA, reaching over 250,000 homes. The video also is on YouTube which allows for continued coverage via social media. I have taken photos, produced mini-clips of the general body meetings and events, and consistently shared them via social media in order to help promote and increase the brand of the organization. Additionally, I have been able to financially support the organizations endeavors by providing sponsorship for three people to the Entrepreneurship Conference and buying tickets to the speed dating event. As previously mentioned above, I produce a television a show and host a radio show in the DMV community. I believe my experiences and network within this area can help take NSBE DC to higher levels of publicity. From a leadership standpoint, I have served in the US Military for approximately 13 years and I have developed a strong sense of discipline, timeliness, professionalism and commitment. I have served on the boards of several organizations in the DMV area and this has allowed me to understand the specific demands, demographics and needs of the people in this area. If elected, this valuable experience I can bring will allow for the board to be more seasoned and experienced, as well as help those that are new to leadership. Leadership/Resume

Ibironke Ogunye College Initiative (CI) Chairperson

Candidate’s Platform I have been involved in NSBE since my freshman year of college. During my undergraduate years, NSBE served as a platform socially and professionally. I learned about resume writing, internship hunting, and scholarship benefits initially through NSBE. My first collegiate scholarship was through NSBE. The study jams and other events that I attended helped motivate me during my journey toward an undergraduate degree in engineering. Now that I am a professional and on the other side of things I still see the importance of NSBE. I see it as an avenue to continue to grow professionally and socially while giving back to the community. Since I support the mission, service and involvement on the chapter level is a must. For that reason, I would like to apply to be on the board. The college initiative position would feel the most natural because I was so involved as a collegiate. I still understand the desires that collegiate chapters have. Leadership/Resume NSBE involvement - PCI committee member, 2015 - present - Chapter president, 2013 - 2014 - Treasurer, 2012 - 2013 - Conference Planning Chair, 2011 - 2012 - Senator, 2011 - 2012 Other Leadership - Flore (Women's network), Host/Lead, 2014 - present - Young African Leaders Association, Student Advisor, 2013 -2014 - Young African Leaders Association, President, 2011 - 2013
