Chair’s Report

In a season which commenced

with much uncertainty, NSW

Country Cricket was able to

deliver a comprehensive program

of cricket and it is a pleasure to

report on some of the season

highlights.

The Hogg-Silver Shield for the best

performing Zone was expanded to

include all competitions played under the NSW Country Cricket

schedule. Points won in the male and female regional

Twenty20 competitions and the NSW Country Youth

Championships competitions are now added to the traditional

schedule of country fixtures. Newcastle won the Hogg-Silver

Shield for the second consecutive year with highlights being

champions in the male Opens, Colts, female Under 16 and male

Under 13 carnivals. The inclusion of these competitions

ensures all matches from Under 13 to Opens cricket carnivals

in male and female have importance to the zones performance

and are included in the overall points score.

The Regional Twenty20 Bash competitions continue to grow

and develop each season. This season the male and female

finals were played on the same day at the SCG and North

Sydney Oval respectively creating a significant day for country

cricket. Congratulations to the ACT Aces who took out the

double with victories in both the male and female

competitions.

In the male final the ACT Aces defeated Lake Mac Attack with

a dominant performance chasing down 130 in the 19th over.

Blake Dean starred for the Aces with 70 not out and was

awarded Player of the Final.

The female final was an even better match coming down the

last over. ACT Aces defeated Coffs Coast Chargers with 3 balls

to spare. Aces skipper Kelly Rowlings was a deserved Player of

the Final with 38 not out and 1 for 9 with the ball.

With the Toyota Australian Country Championships postponed

for the season some innovation was needed to provide our

NSW Country teams with some important cricket matches.

The male NSW Country team played a six game Invitational

series against the ACT in Canberra. In a mixture of Twenty20

and 50 over cricket, NSW Country defeated ACT 4 games to 2

in a very competitive series. Thank you to Cricket ACT for their

support in hosting this series.

The female NSW Country team played a tri series against the

SCG XI and the NSW Indigenous XI at Bradman Oval, Bowral.

All teams won a fixture in a very competitive day of Twenty20

cricket. Thank you to the Bradman Foundation for their

support of this event.

Belatedly we were able to acknowledge in person some special

award winners from the previous season. At the Cricket NSW

delegates meeting in April 2021, Country Cricket NSW Life

Memberships were presented to Graeme Creighton and Colin

Wood and our Male Player of the 2019/20 season Kerrod

White was formally awarded the Josh Hazlewood medal. We

thank Cricket NSW in allowing us to make these presentations.

Congratulations to our two major award winners for 2020/21.

Nicholas Foster (Newcastle) and Anika Learoyd (North Coastal)

were presented with their medals at the Cricket NSW awards

night.

On the same night, Scone Junior Cricket Association was

presented with the inaugural Cricket NSW Volunteer club of

the year award. That is tremendous recognition and

congratulations to all involved in Scone cricket.

I would like to thank the following for their support of Country

Cricket NSW:

• Cricket NSW for its continued support and investment

in country cricket. The combined investment in

country programs, facilities development and staffing

is in excess of $4 million.

• The NSW Cricket Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association

for its commitment to our programs.

• Sponsors such as Transport for NSW, McDonald's,

Kookaburra, and the many Local Government bodies

who supported country cricket

• All the grounds people and volunteers who ensure

our carnivals are run in a professional manner.

• The many media outlets across the state who

continue to give country cricket tremendous

exposure.

• NSW Pathway Competitions Manager Bruce Whitehouse for his drive and passion for country cricket.

To my fellow members of the Committee of Management and

our Secretary Bruce Whitehouse, I thank you for your support

during season 2020/21. As a group we continue to work with

great focus on all issues operational and strategic that impact

cricket in NSW Country. With extra meetings now being

conducted via video conferencing we have enhanced our

capacity to address issues as they arise. It is a pleasure to be

part of the team.

NSW Youth Championships

The Sixers Pool of the NSW Youth Championships was badly

affected by wet weather which saw the cancellation of the

Under 14 and Under 15 carnival scheduled for the Clarence

Valley. Rain also badly affected the Under 13 carnival

scheduled for Scone. Matches were rescheduled into smaller

pools of four to facilitate play, however the Under 14s and

Under 15s re-scheduled for Coffs Harbour in April 2021 were

again cancelled due to wet weather.

The Thunder Pool fared much better, completing all round

matches as well as the carnival held in Dubbo, despite heavy

storms.

Cricket NSW would like to thank Dubbo Regional Council,

Dubbo DCA, Upper Hunter Shire Council, Upper Hunter DCA,

Clarence Valley Council, Clarence River CA and Coffs Harbour

City Council for their support of the carnivals of the NSW Youth

Championships.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the McDonald’s Under 19

Female Country Championships was divided into northern and

The northern pool was played in Tamworth and the southern

government COVID regulations at the time which limited travel

from Greater Sydney to regional NSW, Central Coast were

unable to participate in the northern pool.

Newcastle and ACT Southern Districts both remained

unbeaten in their respective pools however ACT Southern

Districts with a superior run rate took out the Carolyn Sheehan
