Dear Parents and Carers, What an up and down start to the term we have had. The spikes in Victoria and also Sydney have meant that many restriction relaxations that were scheduled have now been placed on hold. Before I go onto explain how this is going to impact our Nulkaba Community I would like to thank everyone who supported our Mark Hughes Beanies for Brain Cancer fundraiser at the end of the term. As you all know this is a cause which is very important to our school community. I would also like to thank the anonymous person who gave us $100 - much appreciated. We raised a total of $800. Thank you. New Arrangements for Drop Off and Pick Up Commencing from Monday, 3 August new arrangements for Drop offs and Pick-ups will commence. Due to the fact that the arrangements we had in place are not being followed, which has led to concerns from staff and formal parent complaints, we are going to have to exclude all parents from the school grounds at both drop off and pick up. This is disappointing but we have no alternative. This is the preferred method as per DoE guidelines. At this point parents can drop off and pick up at the Front Gate - 1, Side Gate - 2 (near old admin), Canteen/Hall Gate - 3, Back Gate - 4 (next to new carpark) and the lockable F and E Block Gate - 5 (lockable gate between F and E blocks). These gates will be numbered. Students will line up in front of F block behind witches hats which have the gate number on them. They will then be escorted to the relevant gate by an executive member of staff. You will need to make sure your child/children know which gate they are expected to go to. You must remain outside the gate at all times, this also includes any High School students. If it becomes too congested then we will need to revert to different finish times for different grades. At Drop Off the arrangements are the same - no parents, grandparents or carers are allowed to come onto the site. You will have to kiss and drop at one of the above gates. If you need to come to the office you must use the Front Gate (O'Connors Road) and go straight to the office and then exit the same way. If you are dropping off late or picking up early you must now go into the office to do so. Please remember there are restrictions on how many people can be in the office at one time and these must be followed. There is an entry and exit door and hand sanitiser in a dispenser for you to use. Please follow all the signs. Our new car park will remain locked until these restrictions are lifted. Thank you for your understanding. Cross Country It is imperative that we follow the DoE guidelines for excursions. This means, as already previously stated, that NO parents are allowed to attend. Students attend school as normal and then will travel to and from the venue by bus. All students from K-6 are expected to attend. This is a whole school event so all staff are to attend. Dear Parents and Carers,

What an up and down start to the term we have had.

Due to the fact that the arrangements we had in place are not being followed, which has led to concerns from staff and formal parent complaints, we are going to have to exclude all parents from the school grounds at both drop off and pick up. is the first event we have been able to hold. Please support us all as we try to provide a fun activity for all our students. I understand this is hard but it has to happen.

P&C Our next meeting will be held in our Staff room on Tuesday 11 August at 6:30 pm. Please let Sally know if you are going to attend as due to COVID-19 we have restrictions on the number of people allowed at our meeting.

Nearly at Nulkaba Unfortunately we have had to postpone the start date of our Nearly at Nulkaba program again due to the spike in COVID-19. We do not have a date at this stage as to when, or if it will begin, but will communicate this information with you as soon as we know. We have tried everything in our power to have our Nearly at Nulkaba program start as we are excited to begin the transition process and work with your wonderful children. A letter has been sent home to all families. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Assemblies As per last term we will be holding our Assemblies every second Monday. Due to our current restrictions we cannot have parents onsite for this. We have our leaders run this assembly in the hall with one stage at a time there as well. All other classes are linked by Zoom. Again this is to make sure we can still acknowledge the wonderful work of our students.

Education Week Obviously with the current circumstances we cannot have our usual open day for parents. Our Cross Country is our special event and teachers will include something on Seesaw next week to highlight the quality educational experiences provided by our school. This is such a weird time we are all living in and with so we all need to support each other so as ensure the best outcomes possible for everyone.

Class KC KC have again been engaged in some very exciting learning this term with our Project Based Learning titled, ‘Once Upon a Time in Nulkaba’. We have been learning to write procedures and this week we made Fairy Bread. As you can see from these photos, the children loved this process and especially the part where they got to taste the finished product.

KC are very lucky this term to have a University student with us on her Practicum and look forward to her starting later in the term.

We are super excited that next Tuesday, we have the K-6 Cross Country Carnival. KC have had a few runs around the back oval getting prepared for their 1km run. We can’t wait to see the children doing their personal best and will post photos to Seesaw for parents to look at on the day. Mrs Carr will even be running on the day and let’s hope she stays on her feet this year.

KC love art and all enjoyed doing a self-portrait last week with Mrs French. Here are a couple for you to see.

This week we did our first formal handwriting lesson where all of the children did a wonderful job. So wonderful that Mrs Carr couldn’t pick only three to send to Mrs Hunt so she called Mrs Hunt for her to come to us. The children liked the feedback that they were given from our Principal and especially loved the special stickers that she gave to them.

It’s hard to believe that we are past the half way mark of Kindergarten. We are so proud of the achievements of all of the children and are excited for the friendships that they have developed.

Mrs Carr and Mrs French would once again like to thank our parents for their continued support this year.

Stage 1 Term 3 is here and Stage 1 has been very busy. We are enjoying our Project “Once Upon a Time At Nulkaba” and were very excited to participate in our Project launch day involving a range of STEM problem-solving activities. Another part of Project we have loved is our plays. This involved designing our backdrops and props as well as practicing our plays ready to present to our buddy classes. We viewed this as our mini practice before we begin our exciting Production this term. Speaking of Production, we can’t wait to listen to the songs, learn the dances and fine tune our acting skills. Rehearsals have already begun! Also coming up is our first Cross Country carnival. We are very excited about going on the bus with our friends. In Week 8 we have our Skip Off and have been busy practicing our skipping skills with both the short and long ropes.

Class 3S 3S are back and ready for a fun filled term of learning! Last term, we kicked off our second Project ‘Marine Mission’ with an exciting project launch. We have been learning about the world’s oceans and waterways, and ways to sustain and protect them. We researched information about endangered marine life and then wrote an information report and created a piece of art work on a selected animal. 3S are excited to continue looking at coastal sustainability over the coming weeks. This term, we are lucky enough to have Mr Medley, a student teacher from university, joining our class for four weeks. 3S have been busy in the classroom developing their skills in persuasive and creative writing and are enjoying our Stage 2 problem solving groups. Take a look at the exciting things we have been up to this term.

Stage 3 Science Experiments Throughout Term 3 a small group of Stage 3 students will be joining Miss Manolis to participate in a range of science experiments. They will be touching on certain aspects of science, such as biology, chemistry, and physics. These experiments requires only items from around the household, so they are able to recreate the experiments at home and share their knowledge with their loved ones.

In the first two weeks we have made egg geodes and have extracted DNA from bananas! Our geodes have been successful with all of our eggshells forming crystals and the students were blown away by how easy it is to extract DNA from bananas!

All students involved have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in these experiments and cannot wait to see what’s next!
