    Project Title: Brochure Translation Project

    Title of Volunteer Role: Translator (Mandarin, Japanese, German, French, Spanish)

    Projects Purpose & Organisations Mission:

    As a destination for visitors, both locally and from abroad, the Museum has a mission to engage witheach of our visitors, including those who do not speak English. In the past this has been supportedwith the availability of multi-lingual brochures. Brochures in other languages were produced in theMuseums early years, possibly about 20 years ago. An updated version of our brochure, introducingvisitors to key facilities and themes within the Museum would assist both international and local Englishas a Second Language (ESL) visitors to get the best possible experience from their visit and anunderstanding of a unique aspect of Geelong and Australias history.

    Required Qualifications/Experience:Native-speaker or have a high proficiency in reading / writing in Mandarin, Japanese, German,French, or Spanish

    Written translation experience

    Estimated Time Commitment:4 hours / week, estimated project to run May September 2013 although hours are flexible to meetvolunteers needs.

    Position description:Volunteers will work closely with the Education & Public Programs Officer to translate existing Museuminformation into identified languages (French, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish).

    Outcomes of Project:

    A translated body of text using language and expression familiar to a native-speaker, ready tobe formatted and printed for our visitors

    Benefits:

    At NWM volunteers are considered honourary staff members with access to staff tearoomfacilities. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in any training or outings such as visits toother cultural institutions in the region.

    Free entry to the Museum and a staff discount in the Museum Shop.

    At successful completion, you will receive a letter of reference and supervising staff are willing

    to act as a referee if required.

    Location:Volunteers will be based at the National Wool Museum. 26 Moorabool Street, Geelong, VIC.
