Sheet metal design NX Advanced Sheet Metal Design. NX Advanced Sheet Metal Design includes features and bending operations for straight brake parts, as well as tools for designers who model complex parts. NX Human Modeling Posture Prediction.NX Human Modeling Posture Prediction allows users to positiona model of a human driver, front passenger or rear passenger in a seated position inside an automotivevehicle. Users specify the position of the hands and feet in a specific location, such as the driver’s handsand feet touching the steering wheel and brake pedal.

This model predicts an occupant’s hip location, eye locations and arm and leg positions based on thetype of vehicle and the occupant’s hand and foot locations. Both class-A (cars) and class-B (trucks)vehicles are supported.

Automotive designNXVDA Checker. This module checks the quality of curves and surfaces according to the criteriadescribed in the CAD/CAM Data Quality VDA 4955 standard provided by the Working Group VDA-AK CAD/CAM.

NX Body Design. NX Body Design is a fully integrated set ofsoftware assistants and advisors tailored to the specialized role ofBody in White (BiW) design. It provides designers and engineerswith processes based on automotive industry best practices thatallow quick and simple creation and validation of BiW parts withina managed environment. The wide range of assistants and advisorsinclude B-Pillar Assistant, Hinge Location Assistant, Glass DropAssistant, Stone Impingement Assistant and Body SectionalFormability Advisor.

NX General Packaging. NX General Packaging is a fully integratedset of software assistants and advisors that automate a wide rangeof tasks associated with the mechanical and occupant packaging ofa vehicle. Its integrated out-of-the-box capabilities facilitateprocesses that accelerate packaging design and help ensure compliance with Society of AutomotiveEngineers (SAE) standards and local country regulations. The wide range of assistants include 2DManikin Assistant, Seat Lines Assistant, Eyellipse Assistant, Instrument Panel Visibility Assistant,Windshield Vision Zones Assistant, Mirror Certification Assistant, Direct Field Of View Assistant,Reflection Data Assistant, Engine Roll Assistant and Tire Envelope Assistant.

Composite Fabric FlattenerNX Composite Fabric Flattener. The NX Composite Fabric Flattener creates flat patterns for woven orunidirectional fabric materials. It can be used to flatten composite laminate plies, or any materials thatconform to the theoretical models for woven or unidirectional fabrics. The package includes twosolvers that can process multiple surfaces, cut curves, arbitrary or infinite stock (the raw material fromwhich the final surface is created) and additional curves and points.

Data quality assuranceNX Check-Mate Author. NX Check-Mate Author converts knowledge of industry-specific, corporate orcustomer standards into checks that are incorporated within the product validation process, allowingcustomers to create their own company-specific checks. With these checks, quality requirements areclearly defined and documented, resulting in unambiguous communication and fewer interpretation

errors throughout product development. NX Check-Mate’sautomated validation eliminates error-prone processes thatrequire designers to remember standards, requirementsand validation procedures. Since design validation can beperformed quickly, designers are able to discover problemsearlier in product development and change them wherecost is more manageable. The results from Check-Mate canbe used to identify training needs, to evaluate suppliers’performance or to recognize product improvementopportunities. Check-Mate’s reporting tools allowcustomers to document and analyze the informationnecessary for assessing progress of quality initiatives.

Tolerance StackupValidationNXTolerance Stackup Validation. NX Tolerance Stackup Validation is a simplified tool targeted atdesigners who need to perform a quick maximum/minimum tolerance stackup analysis directly in theCAD design session. Tolerance Stackup Validation directly uses GD&T information applied in NX 3Dmodels and sets them to their maximum and minimum values to perform a simulated worst-caseanalysis. This analysis estimates overall variation, identifies contributors to variation and provides first-level validation of specified dimensional tolerances. With this validation companies can improve qualityby identifying potential build problems early in the design process, and improve productivity with anautomated alternative to manual tolerance stackup calculations.

Standard partsNX FAST 2000 Professional 50 and 100. The NX Fast 2000 Professional products provide selections ofparts (50 or 100) from any of the standard parts supplied by Falko Standard, a Siemens FoundationPartner company that develops and supports the products. Tightly integrated with NX, the standardparts are defined in 3D NX format. Library Content is freely selectable part by part to meet the exactneeds of the customer, with library access provided through an intuitive graphical interface thatrequires no specific training. The standard parts system provides the tools needed to add, modify ordelete standard parts from an assembly and to position them using an intelligent positioning tool.

NXView & Edit 2000 (NT). NX View & Edit 2000 works with NX FAST 2000 Professional. providing acustomization toolkit for creating and maintaining custom part libraries. It allows customers to enhancepart libraries with customer-specific information such as part numbers and preferred parts lists and tocreate new libraries of standard parts.

BCT 3D Pool Portal. BCT, a Siemens Foundation Partner, develops standard parts and featuresapplications that are fully integrated with NX design tools. Companies who use industry-standardcomponents in their product development process can use BCT predefined parts to save time in thedesign process. Standard parts and features are applicable to all of the major industries serviced by NX,with particular value in the Industrial Machinery segment.

BCT 3D Pool Portal is the librarian application for standard part modules provided by BCT. This toolprovides the interface to BCT-provided parts as well as authoring capabilities that companies can useto develop their own part libraries. The 3D Pool Portal license includes 50 families of parts selectablefrom the BCT website at www.bct-portal.com.

NX Check-Mate Author includes tools forcreating knowledge-based rules and profiles forchecking data quality.

BCT PE-Designer. BCT PE Designer is the librarian application for standard feature modules. Similar infunction to the BCT 3D Pool Portal, PE Designer works with features rather than part files. Thelicense includes 50 families of features freely selectable from the BCT website at www.bct-portal.com.

BCT Machinery Solution. BCT Machinery Solution includes both the BCT 3D Pool Portal and BCT PE-Designer parts and features library applications, and a selection of 50 families of features from the BCTwebsite at www.bct-portal.com.

SimulationNX StrengthWizard. The Strength Wizard provides an easy-to-use simulation wizard for fast and simple structural/thermal/vibration analysis for non-experts in structural analysis. Thisproduct brings a new set of simulation possibilities to all users ofthe NX product design suite of engineering tools in five quickand simple steps. This even includes the creation of web-basedreports. At every stage of the simulation process the user isprovided with clear and concise guidance. Based on the finiteelement method of structural analysis, accuracy of solutions is aprime consideration. Solutions are fully error checked and undercontrol of the user. Meshing is automatic and completelyadaptive to even the most complex model geometry. Oncesimulated, simulation confidence levels are graphically presented to users, as part of the wizard basedprocess, interactively and as part of the web-based project report. This type of virtual productsimulation provides a more cost effective, quick and simple compliment to more expensive physicalprototypes and time consuming product validation.

NX Scenario for Motion +. NX Scenario for Motion + is an integrated, associative and intuitive Motionenvironment that has been developed to allow users to quickly predict and optimize the motioncharacteristics of design alternatives, or “scenarios” as an intrinsic part of the design process. It providesan environment to help designers and engineers understand, evaluate and optimize the complex motionbehavior of assemblies and models against functional performance design targets. By providing dynamicand kinematic simulation model tools, access to the entire suite of NX modeling tools and advancedsimulation modeling tools users can vary model feature parameters and/or create/modify geometry, toenable the rapid creation of numerous and associative simulation models for performance evaluation.NX Scenario has been specifically designed to provide confident solutions to critical engineeringproblems, quickly and at a time when it matters most – anytime during product development.

NX Scenario for Structures. NX Scenario for Structures + is an integrated, associative, intuitive finiteelement modeling and post processing tool set that is designed to work within NX in conjunction withthe Nastran finite element solver. It has been specifically developed to allow users to quickly predict andoptimize the simulated engineering responses of various design alternatives, or “scenarios” as an intrinsicpart of the design process.

Also integrated into Scenario’s associative structural modeling and solution capability are automatedsizing and parametric shape optimization and fault-tolerant adaptive meshing technologies found inNastran. Using the embedded optimization engine, NX Scenario is able to automatically predict thebest geometric and mechanical parameters for a component or assembly based on engineering

performance simulation results. Optimization goals, engineeringconstraints and model variables are defined by the user througha simple process, while fault tolerant meshing provides aquantitative degree of confidence.

Supported solution types include linear statics, normal modes,linear buckling, steady state heat transfer, combined thermo-structural and nonlinear statics (gaps/contacts) for assemblysimulation; temperature-dependent materials are also supported.In many cases, engineers are not just focused on if a product willfail; integrated durability analysis enables design engineers topredict when it will fail.

Stamping die designNX Die EngineeringWizard. NX Die Engineering Wizard provides a wide array of tools specificallyfocused on die process specification and die face design. It guides users in modeling the shapetransformation of the sheet metal as it moves through the die press line and in designing die faces.

NX Die Engineering Wizard guides the engineer in defining the process used to manufacture aparticular sheet metal part. The application produces a representation of the press line and models theshape of the sheet metal as it leaves each press. This “part in process” ability allows designers andengineers to effectively evaluate the process at every step.

NX Die Structure Design. NX Die Structure Design provides specialized tools for modeling the diestructure. Its functions create blank dies, draw dies, trim dies, flange dies and associated transferequipment. This includes standard components such as pierce equipment, pressure systems and aircylinders. Other major components have free form faces that reflect the shape of the product to bemanufactured. These components often are very difficult to model using conventional modeling tools.Die Structure Design offers special functions to create these components, which are then representedas full-fledged features.

Customization/automationKnowledge Fusion Author. Knowledge Fusion Author is the complete rules-based modeling andknowledge based engineering (KBE) development and programming kit. Knowledge Fusion is a fullyintegrated tool that permits extension of NX by the end user. It is intended for knowledge engineers,senior designers and programmers. It provides the ability to add any type of engineering rule to adesign, thereby creating smart models that are much more robust and useful, and ensured to be soundfrom an engineering standpoint (such as for use in product configurators). Once a smart model orprogram has been created, it can be accessed and manipulated (within the bounds of the author’sintent) in any NX Mach Series application.

NX Die EngineeringWizard andNX Die Structure Design are tailoredfor die process specification anddesign of die faces and structures forstamped sheet metal components.

NX Scenario for Structures + includesdesign-integrated simulation modeling, anintegrated solver and post-processing forfast simulation turnaround.

NX Open User Interface Styler. NX Open User Interface (UI)Styler is a visual user interface builder for interactively designingportable NX-style dialogs. Used both internally by Siemensdevelopers and externally by users and third-party developers,NX Open UI Styler provides the application module, dialogbuilder, objects, libraries and documentation necessary tointeractively create production-ready dialogs. Using a point-and-click interface, users can develop dialogs for Open applicationswith a minimum amount of time and effort. No previousexperience with Windows, SDK or X/Motif is required. NXOpen UI Styler manages these complexities to create platform-independent dialogs, with interactive object selection and macro support built in.

NX Open for .NET Author. NX offers an API for use with Microsoft’s .NET framework. Built on theCommon API, this interface provides programmatic access to NX core application functionality, makingit possible to create advanced automation programs using any of the .NET-compliant languages,including Visual Basic .NET and C#. Because the API is built on the .NET framework, users can take fulladvantage of all the benefits provided by that framework.

NX Open for .NET is completely integrated with the new Visual Studio .NET developmentenvironment, which provides state-of-the-art browsing, editing, debugging, graphical layout of dialogs(WinForms and WebForms) and a unified integrated development environment (IDE) for web, desktopand mobile development needs. It supports rapid application development by offering streamlined,object oriented class hierarchies. Offers full remoting support based on .NET remoting which iscompatible with COM based solutions. All API documentation is fully integrated into the Visual Studiointegrated developmentenvironment and is easily displayed in the Visual Studio Help format.

NX Open Automation Studio. NX Open Automation Studio includes all of the NX applicationprogramming interfaces (APIs). It provides the libraries and documentation required to compile andlink Open C and/or C++ applications, and Open GRIP applications.

The NX APIs are direct programming interfaces that enable users to create custom applications usingthe popular programming languages. They are used by NX Mach Series developers, customers andalliance partners to produce unique applications to augment NX Mach Series or to act as completelyseparate utilities. The Open C and Open C++ APIs provide a fully extensible data model, allowingcustomers to define new types of objects that can be treated just like standard NX Mach Seriesobjects and stored persistently in NX Mach Series part files. Applications developed with the NX OpenAutomation Studio can be run in any NX Mach Series solution.

Electromechanical integrationNX E/Pak. NX E/Pak is a two-way printed circuit board layout interface that connects most ECADprinted circuit board systems to NX. The application is oriented for the electrical and mechanicaldesign sectors for the conversion of information between electronic board/component assemblies andplastics/mechanical packaging. The end goal is to significantly improve the ease and quality of dataexchange by enabling concurrent design, catching errors early in the design process and decreasing thetime-to-market.

The NX User Interface Styler streamlines

NX Open for .NET takes advantageof the Microsoft integrateddevelopment environment by providingaccess to object documentationdirectly from theVisual StudioObject Browser.

As a two-way interface, NX E/Pak assists in the design of both electronic board/component assembliesand mechanical packaging. Whether accepting new designs from or formatting designs for use within anECAD system, NX E/Pak assures continuity between the printed circuit board layout and the UGassembly. NX E/Pak is developed and supported by Siemens Foundation Partner LTX Software.

NX Schematics. NX Schematics is an integrated 2D schematic layout package for NX. With thepackage, users can quickly layout schematic designs, verify their function, add detailed part informationand drive downstream processes. With NX Schematics, users can create place and edit devices, definethe connections between them, modify the properties (attributes) of the devices and connections andexport the connection information and Bill of Materials (BOM) information to other downstreamdesign applications.

NX Schematics can be used as a standalone application to create the 2D logical design or it can be afront end to 3D physical design providing a powerful design integration tool, as it permits informationto be passed between the 2D logical layout and the 3D model. Subsequent 3D designs can also be sentback to NX Schematics for further iteration. NX Schematics can also automatically generate aschematic based on logical data generated by Routing Electrical or other design tool. NX Schematics isdeveloped and supported by Siemens Foundation Partner LTX Software.

NX PCB Exchange. NX PCB Exchange provides direct data exchange between printed circuit board(PCB) layout software and the NX modeling environment. It uses the industry standard IDF dataformat to exchange the PC board and component geometry and placement. It can also use acomponent database with specifications on thermal loads to build a thermal finite element modelcompatible with I-deas® ESC and TMG Thermal Analysis. NX PCB Exchange is developed andsupported by Siemens Foundation Partner MAYA Heat Transfer Technologies Ltd.

Data translatorsTheorem Catia Bi-Directional Translator for Catia V4. Theorem Solutions is a Siemens Foundation Partnerand strategic supplier of Catia data exchange products. The Theorem Translators support Catia V3/V4native files. Current support allows for the exchange of geometry including solids, surfaces andwireframe. Catia assembly structures are mapped to NX Mach Series assemblies.

This product provides bidirectional data exchange between NX Mach Series and Catia R4.x systems.Solids, surfaces, assemblies and drafting information can be exchanged between the two systems.

A Catia V5 translator is available directly from Theorem Solutions.

Theorem Catia Viewer. This product is a companion product for the Theorem Catia translator products.It can only be sold to customers with existing Theorem product licenses. There is no maintenanceassociated with the product. The Viewer displays geometry only. Drafting information display is notsupported nor are there any future plans to add it. This product is not available for OSF or Alpha NT.

Theorem CADDS 4X/5X-to-NXTranslator. The Theorem Solutions CADDS to NX translator currentlyprovides for the exchange of geometry (surfaces, solids and wireframe) and assembly information.Drafting information will be supported in a later release. The translator contains a Viewer which allowsthe user to review the native CADDS data prior to translation.

NX Catia V4 Interface. The NX Catia V4 interface allows the reading and writing of Catia model andexport files solid and surface geometry. The user can access Catia V4 files from the File Open, FileSave As, File Import and File Export dialogs. This tool will flatten assemblies to a single level on bothimport and export. Drawing and Wireframe data are not supported.

Note: This product is separate from the Theorem Catia Bi-Directional Translator product which runs externallyfrom NX Mach Series and does not replace that product.

NX CatiaV5 InterfaceThe NX Catia V5 interface allows the reading of Catia V5 CATPart and CATProduct files. Accessiblefrom an external interface it is unidirectional Catia V5 to NX. This tool reads geometry, assemblystructure and attribute data of color, layer and name. The user canto access Catia V5 files from theFile Open, File Save As, File Import and File Export dialogs in NX. This translator does not replace theCatia V4 interface and is not an upgrade for any of the currently available Catia V4 translators. Thetranslator is currently supported only on the Microsoft Windows platform.
